EU blackmailing the UK

houseinthesnow · 11/12/2020 05:31

So it comes to pass. The EU have decided unless we agree to their unreasonable demands they will halt all travel, including air and road travel whilst still fishing in our waters apparently!

It is nothing short of piracy.

The true nature of the EU has been exposed for some time, hence our departure - but now no one can be any doubt just to the levels they will sink to.
The EU have no interest in trade relations, nor cooperation, they only seek control and power. The trading relations is and was always, window dressing to create a superstate - and it seems they are now not afraid to inflict as much damage as possible to stop a member leaving.
Even the most passionate remainer will now see how deeply disturbing this behaviour actually is.

One could argue it is an act of war in fact.

It should be treated as such.

I will happily eat beans to the end of my days than be blackmailed by the EU. We all knew it would get nasty at the end, but who they knew they were capable of this. I suppose we can't be that surprised given the past. The gloves are off now for sure - and that goes both ways we should remind them.

Hard hats on.

I think it’s funny because halting travel affects them just as much, they are using tactic to try get us to adhere to whatever they want which is why most people chose to leave in the first place. Very clever on thier part. I think it will backfire and we need to just hold on and let them fuck themselves over.

Regretsandregrets · 11/12/2020 06:38

Well, enjoy the benefits of independence! The EU team are going to look after EU interests. What's wrong with that?

CayrolBaaaskin · 11/12/2020 06:38

None of your post is actually true

AuldAlliance · 11/12/2020 06:39

They are playing hard ball as they don't want other nations to start getting ideas about leaving the EU. Your right OP, it is about power.

It may well be the OP's right not to start getting ideas about leaving the EU (though that ship would appear to have sailed and currently be on the rocks).

Doesn't mean (s)he's right.

Regretsandregrets · 11/12/2020 06:39

*what's wrong with that?

G5000 · 11/12/2020 06:40

So basically:
I want a divorce, fuck you!
Oh, what do you mean I can't eat at the same dinner table and continue conjugal relations??

EU is not halting any travel. UK will be a third country now and you can travel on same terms as any other third country that does not have any special arrangements. All those arrangements were advertised as easy-peasy, weren't they?

Posturesorposes · 11/12/2020 06:42

A nUmber of possibilities-

  1. Op has drunk the kool aid
  2. Op is drunk
  3. Op is a baby journo
  4. Op is ze stirrer of shite
  5. A GF
SherryPalmer · 11/12/2020 06:43

This is the consequence of Boris Johnson’s brinkmanship strategy. No deal could have been taken off the table ages ago but he wanted to keep it as an option until the last minute to blackmail the EU into giving us what we want. This is ENTIRELY a situation of our own making Angry

Facelikearustytractor · 11/12/2020 06:44

I will happily eat beans to the end of my days than be blackmailed by the EU

I'm not and neither are my kids. Why should you decide whether we live in poverty or not. You are just as bad as those evil EU people.

whatshalliget · 11/12/2020 06:45

Erm yeah, that won’t be happening. They might be sorry (in some ways) to see the UK go, but they are far too skilled and experienced to “fuck themselves over”. Not to mention the fact that they are still a group of countries acting together, while the UK is in some respects now a rogue state run by a populist self-serving incompetent government.

Kippure · 11/12/2020 06:47

@Susanwouldntlikeit

OP you are getting a lot of abuse on here but no substance or willingness to debate. You will simply have a thread full of potty-mouthed accusations of trolling. Interestingly tho half of people who voted agree with you but will not post here because of the bullying of those who are unable to have a conversation and only up to an incoherent rant.
Shrieking about piracy, super states and ‘acts of war’ aren’t terms for ‘debate’. Possibly because the OP’s beans got into her ears.
SunscreenCentral · 11/12/2020 06:49

🤡

QueenofLouisiana · 11/12/2020 06:50

Yes, it is entirely due to those evil remainers and nothing to do with the rampant levels of COVID in the U.K.
We’ve had 12 months grace to move freely across the EU, which comes to an end in 3 weeks. At that point, we join all the other countries who are not guaranteed free movement in the EU. Due to our high levels of COVID infection, the EU don’t want us travelling there- just like Australia (for example).
Since you appear to have swallowed The Telegraph’s version of Brexit, I thought I’d try to give you a little clarity.

It’s not “clever”, just the consequences of the UK becoming a third country on January 1st.

Sovereignty, innit.

SionnachRua · 11/12/2020 06:51

You're choosing to become a country outside the block. The EU has essentially said ok, we'll treat you as a country outside the bloc. That seems very fair to me?

Don't whinge just because they don't subscribe to your notions of British exceptionalism.

Eng123 · 11/12/2020 06:53

The EU has offered an extension of critical transport arrangements for 6-12 months to avoid the cliff edge. The UK gov has basically thrown that offer back in their face, why?
Brexit is and always was about a schism in the Tory party. The fact remains that the avaerage person in the UK will be poorer and enjoy a lower standard of living because of Brexit. This is not the fault of the EU but of those greedy enough to promote Brexit to exploit the UK for political or disaster-exonomics gain. The blame slain lays at the feet of those stupid enough to fall for it.

nosswith · 11/12/2020 06:57

@whatshalliget you beat me to it.

BefuddledPerson · 11/12/2020 06:59

It is incredibly worrying, this outcome was increasingly predictable but is really bad for the UK.

I love this country and we are on the brink of losing so much.

Brexit was a huge bundle of lies peddled by some very unscrupulous politicians and our nation is going to be worse off.

No deal is a huge failure on Johnson's part.

Many will blame the EU. That won't gange anything for us, the general public, who will be badly affected.

Ifailed · 11/12/2020 07:00

The EU have decided unless we agree to their unreasonable demands they will halt all travel, including air and road travel whilst still fishing in our waters apparently!

In what way are their demands unreasonable?

UK airlines get their airworthiness certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), from 1st Jan the UK had decided to forgo membership of the EASA, and loose the right to fly over Europe, the EU are helping the UK out to avoid this. The EU have extended the rules to allow UK lorries to travel into Europe, something they didn't have to do. From 1st Jan, the UK has chosen to become a 3rd country to the EU so the UK will follow the same rules about travel and visiting along with most other countries in the world.
Fishing rights in UK waters predate the EU, the UK agreed to give access to other European countries. The UK decided to leave the EU so needs to negotiate new fishing rights, not surprisingly the EU has decided to defend it's members.
As an aside, looking at the UK's exclusive economic zone, the vast majority of that would come under Scottish control.

PatchworkElmer · 11/12/2020 07:01

Don’t be ridiculous. The EU is acting in the best interest of its member states. Which ‘we’ have chosen not to be a part of any more. This is the reality of what we voted for- enjoy your beans. And a Biscuit

houseinthesnow · 11/12/2020 07:03

Fortunately for the UK the rest of the world will trade normally, so I guess the big losers will be the EU producers Smile

BefuddledPerson · 11/12/2020 07:03

@Ifailed

Sadly facts like these are always ignored. You are right - but brexiteer politicians promised fairy stories and now those who voted for it want their happy ending. What an absolute mess for our lovely country.

houseinthesnow · 11/12/2020 07:04

As the UK have a trade surplus with the EU I don't think it will be the UK that lose, but hundreds of thousands of jobs across the EU as well.

houseinthesnow · 11/12/2020 07:04

I say bring it on!

No deal here we come!
