I know there is a lot of Nigella haters here, but I love her playfulness.

Will you be referring to yours as a micro-Wav-eh from now on? Will it take off? 😂

dishwasher = washing machine
shampoo = champagne
peanut butter = penis bastard
quiche = quince
lawnmower = grass hoover (from when I forgot the name once)

Itstooloudinhere · 10/12/2020 16:14

Par cark.

Chish and fips

Waity-rose

Itstooloudinhere · 10/12/2020 16:15

@pussycatinboots

Has anyone been brave enough to try one of her recipes yet?

Also my wi-fi is called wiffy.

😂

I still struggle with Quinn-ohh-ahh, how is that keynoir?

Quinoa is pronounced Key-noir....
pussycatinboots · 10/12/2020 16:16

I like grass hoover Grin

My mum used to call quiche "kitch" Confused

Itstooloudinhere · 10/12/2020 16:17

Sorry as in the qui is the key sound. Something latin 🤷‍♀️

pussycatinboots · 10/12/2020 16:18

Yes, but Quinoa isn't spelled Key noir. It looks like quinn ohh ahh (or Quinn Noah)

teaandcustardcreamsx · 10/12/2020 16:18

Couldn’t stop laughing when I heard this 🤣 I used to know someone who pronounced ibuprofen eye—boo—profen Grin

MLMbotsgoaway · 10/12/2020 16:20

Yep we adopted it straight away. Reckon it will be on Gogglebox this week

PimlicoJo · 10/12/2020 16:22

I liked Nigella anyway but I'm now smitten after hearing the way she says microwave. I think she's fab and I wish I had her swishy hair.

MrsGEW1 · 10/12/2020 16:23

We have 'woasty' in our house for breakfast!
Toast-y woasty!

MLMbotsgoaway · 10/12/2020 16:23

Oh and in this has it’s “bah con san weesh” (no idea why).

kfcismyfamily · 10/12/2020 16:24

We call shitake mushrooms shitache mushrooms, it was quite embarrassing once in Wagamama when I ordered a shitache dish. The waitress saw the funny side

vampirethriller · 10/12/2020 16:26

My sister and I say washing up wiklid because that's how she said it when she was little and a friend of mine has testeeclays, not testicles.

whiteonesugar · 10/12/2020 16:28

We have so many of these!!

Pate like Mate
Canape - Like -Can-ape (to rhyme with cape!)
Money - Mahoney
Champagne - Shampagnie

I'm am sure there are many more

MedusasBadHairDay · 10/12/2020 16:35

Growing up scissors was always pronounced with a hard C.

We also have chish and fips, or burrrr-gerrrs.

There are also e-mer-da-dees (emergencies) courtesy of DS when he was tiny.

And my mum always used to say her star sign was Saggy Hairy Arse

I knew somebody once who never did anything like this, hated nicknames too, and was utterly appalled by people who did.

Uh... That's how it's pronounced... Unless you call it ibboo-proff-en?
KittyB52 · 10/12/2020 16:38

How are you supposed to pronounce ibuprofen then?

Ih-BU-profen?

I-bu-pro-FEN?

Ib’pr’f’n?

The cherry crumble is good.

The gingerbread was doughy (very soft and sticky)but the kids ate it all.

I haven't tried anything with anchoves yet though.

JessCat75 · 10/12/2020 16:44

Maybe a bit off topic but it reminded me of when my friend and I used to love the TV show ER, except she thought it was pronounced err...😂

MustardMitt · 10/12/2020 16:45

I can only think eye-byoo-profen but I don’t think that’s different enough to warrant the post!
sexyomelette · 10/12/2020 16:45

Love it! Gona call it that from now on

teaandcustardcreamsx · 10/12/2020 16:47

I’ve always pronounced it as eye-bee-profen, most people I know do too

Mrsemcgregor · 10/12/2020 16:55

Science Oven innit.
