I know there is a lot of Nigella haters here, but I love her playfulness.

Will you be referring to yours as a micro-Wav-eh from now on? Will it take off? 😂

OP posts:
FleetwoodMacMummy · 10/12/2020 15:27

I’ve called it this for years!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 10/12/2020 15:29

I have a feeling I might say it so much I might actually forget the other pronunciation! Luckily we don’t have a mic-ro-wav-eh...

Thickhead · 10/12/2020 15:30

Yes poor old Joe Wicks got absolutely ridiculed for saying Wensleydalé when it was obviously a joke!

I once said "we'll jump off that bridge when we get to it" at work and a colleague smugly explained that the correct phrase was "cross that bridge"... Some people are such humourless twats.

DahliaMacNamara · 10/12/2020 15:30

I frequently call it the meecrowahv. I'm mortified now that my fancy microwave was always more French than Italian.

ByebyeOcado · 10/12/2020 15:31

Gaze Bows to keep you dry as you sip your mo-jye-toes. and when you have a hangover, take a parah-cet-mol.

And if your'e hungry, have a fa jye tah. or some kwee-noah. The looks you get in public when you forget, and use them out loud!

CaveMum · 10/12/2020 15:34

DD (6) was most amused when I told her that “microwave” in Welsh is “poppity ping” so that’s what she calls it!

GiraffeWithSwag · 10/12/2020 15:42

😂....personally whenever I have spinach I always call it spin-archie!!! These lot think I’m crazy for some reason, I just think it’s adding a bit of sparkle to a day

BreadSaucery · 10/12/2020 15:52

We pronounce pate as paahhhh-taaaaay from a really old SNL sketch where Dan Aykroyd was being Julia Childs ( oh now I’ve gone and cut myself and I’m bleeding all over the paaaaataaaaayyyy! ).

jerometheturnipking · 10/12/2020 15:55

I can't understand how anyone could hate Nigella.

VienneseWhirligig · 10/12/2020 15:56

Oh and chicken kievs are 'keevs'.

isawthat · 10/12/2020 15:56

It’s caught on in my house already, I think it’s hilarious😂 My maiden name was Jones and very boring and my slightly posh great gran was adamant it was pronounced Joan-ess. It caught on and my kids call my dad grandad joaness

AndcalloffChristmas · 10/12/2020 15:57

It’s a bit like calling Streatham “St wreath-ham” or Clapham “Claaaam”

It’s a joke!

changedmynameforChristmas · 10/12/2020 15:57

I love Nigella but Joe Wicks looks like Conchita Worst and I can't help thinking that when I look at him and it revolts me .. Sorry to all the fans out there (of both guys)

dementedma · 10/12/2020 15:58

Horses doofers for hors d'oeuvres

Woohoowoowoo · 10/12/2020 15:58

We have loads of these in our house.
Quick-che is quiche.
Wee fee is the WiFi.

AndcalloffChristmas · 10/12/2020 15:59

I’ve always enjoyed pronouncing the name Archie “Ark-ee-eh”. I was reading White Teeth on the beach in Italy once and an Italian looked at it and pronounced the name this way. I think it’s so nice!

AndcalloffChristmas · 10/12/2020 15:59

Oh I do wee fee too!

Viviennemary · 10/12/2020 16:00

I always quite liked Nigella but she can sometimes be a bit of a pain. Barefoot Contessa is much more annoying but I still love watching.

HeadNorth · 10/12/2020 16:01

And don't forget a horse's doovre. We are meecrowavvey converts in this house . Always said the Coop and I am sure we have others. Nigella is great - her Domestic Goddess is still my go-to book for a lot of our favourite cakes (brownies, store cupboard chocolate orange, banana cherry & choc chip muffins - great recipes).

jessstan1 · 10/12/2020 16:02

I like Nigella very much, she's warm and natural. I haven't seen her on TV recently so don't know about her microwave. Mine will continue to be called 'microwave'.

Pikachubaby · 10/12/2020 16:02

Wee fee here too, it’s what it’s called in some countries Grin

Wish-dosher for dishwasher, I can now no longer pronounce or say it correctly

oldwhyno · 10/12/2020 16:03

everytime I remember.

And I'll be trying to double butter my toast from time to time as well.

TartanDMs · 10/12/2020 16:08

Wifi is whiffy. Ocado is ock-a-doh.

sotiredofthislonelylife · 10/12/2020 16:11

I like to say ‘vegetabubbles’ - it just makes them sound more exciting!!

pussycatinboots · 10/12/2020 16:12

Has anyone been brave enough to try one of her recipes yet?

Also my wi-fi is called wiffy.

😂

I still struggle with Quinn-ohh-ahh, how is that keynoir?
