OH thinks I'm a nutcase 😂

But in my defence...It's so pretty! It's from not on the high street.

Normally I'd buy from a normal shop but all the sets have been a bit rubbish this year and i have this weird thing where there has to be a colour scheme (I know I'm a lunatic)

This isn't for DD present by the way. She wouldn't give a shit if I wrapped them in tin foil 😅

This is for family presents.

If it’s NOTHS, it’s a small independent seller who will be very pleased with a decent sale.

It’s your money, if it makes you happy, if it’s not hurting anyone, enjoy it!

Muddypuddlesinthewoods · 10/12/2020 14:32

Each to their own but to put it into perspective that's a weeks worth of Christmas food shopping for me and 3dc so I couldn't and wouldn't buy something at that price when it will go straight in the recycling bin.

Bikingbear · 10/12/2020 14:32

More money than sense!

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 10/12/2020 14:34

I wouldn’t pay that for wrapping paper, but people are free to spend their money how they like.

If it’s from not on the high street it’ll probably be made by a small, independent company. So in the end that money will probably be going to better use than all the people (and I’m included in this) spending a couple of quid on paper in the supermarket.

tinselfest · 10/12/2020 14:37

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

This paper is recyclable
All wrapping paper is recyclable if you unwrap the presents carefully, peel off the sellotape if you can, and iron it like my mum did flatten it out a bit.
Twerking9to5 · 10/12/2020 14:38

I spent £5 on a 3m roll from John Lewis yesterday and thought I was being quite fancy 😂

Hiddennameforever · 10/12/2020 14:42

I bought once a truly truly truly truly beautiful Xmas wrapping paper from WH Smith.
It was all under £10 as I bought 3 various ones.
In the end nobody cared, nobody knew and it got ripped off same as it would be £1 from poundshop.
So no, I don’t do that anymore. Waste of money really.

Ideasplease322 · 10/12/2020 14:42

Was it £45 for one roll?

Lovemusic33 · 10/12/2020 14:43

I love wrapping paper but have stoped myself spending a fortune on it. I think it’s nice if the present is going to sit under the tree looking pretty for more than a couple days but if it’s not then it’s not going to be appreciated especially by children. I have to say that I don’t really take much notice in the wrapping when I receive a gift, none have stuck in my memory from previous years 🤔. This year I have mainly used gift bags rather than paper as I have bought most people a selection of small gifts and I couldn’t be bothered to wrap them all individually, the bags can be reused which is also a bonus. I have probably spent £5 on wrapping paper for the rest and £10 on gift bags.

Lovemusic33 · 10/12/2020 14:45

Actually the only wrapping paper I ever remember is from my Nan, she used to use leftover wall paper and reused birthday paper 😂

hansgrueber · 10/12/2020 14:45

I still have paper I bought years ago in the sale that I'll use, as the grandchildren get older their presents seem to get smaller, although not cheaper, sadly.
Maybe my lack of profligacy is a legacy of being one of those lucky boomers who are so unfair to the rest of society!

DuzzyFuck · 10/12/2020 14:46

I would absolutely not spend that much, but then all of mine for the past 2 years has been free thanks to a local (quite fancy) stationers dumping all their unsold stock outside a few days after Christmas with a sign saying to help yourself! I got 6 decent rolls back to the car and they've done me ever since GrinGrin.

(But just to add that it's your money DP; if you want it and you can afford it then go for it! Do be prepared for the recipients not to care as much as you do though).

stayhomeatchristmas · 10/12/2020 14:48

@Lowhangingfruit

We still have gift bags on rotation that have been going for 5yrs around the family Grin
Yep, I have bought gift bags this year and hope to see them coming back to me next year and given back again the one after etc, until they are fit for the recycling bin only. Wish I'd started it years ago.
Choux · 10/12/2020 14:49

Same theme, much cheaper (3m roll vs individual sheets from NOTHS.)

As others have said £45 for paper ripped off seems like a waste. Paper carefully removed and reused for future presents may help justify the cost.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/12/2020 14:49

*goose1964

Some of that paper is gorgeous, but I think the owl on the snowy owl is actually a great grey owl*

Love it! 😁

Teddybear27 · 10/12/2020 14:50

If wrapping presents is your thing go for it. However, I wouldn’t spend £45 on paper that will be thrown in the bin. I have looked at Not on the High Street before and their stuff is expensive....

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 10/12/2020 14:51

Slight tangent but Kraft tape is recyclable (instead of sellotape).

I think that's an awful lot of money on wrapping paper OP but if it makes you happy! Some people will be spending similar on presents tat that'll never be used so really what's the difference. At least yours can be recycled!

Meowchickameowmeow · 10/12/2020 14:51

I'm with your OH.

Hylyma1234 · 10/12/2020 14:52

It all depends on how many rolls you bought and how much it works out per roll. If you can afford to buy luxury wrapping paper, then why not!

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 10/12/2020 14:52

Generally I couldn’t care less what people spend their money on, but I actually think that £45 on wrapping paper is an obscene waste of money. You could buy nice wrapping paper for half that (quarter of that) and donate the difference to a good cause.

weepingwillow22 · 10/12/2020 14:53

If it is that lovely maybe the recipient will do what my grandparents used to do and rewrap your presents in it the following year. They really hated waste and took great care to carefully remove and reuse it.

isadorapolly · 10/12/2020 14:53

If it makes you happy why not!

I use brown paper, but I get huge 20kg rolls of it from the Dutch wholesalers as I’m a florist, costs pennies and seems silly to use anything else. I add on bits of foliage and tie with brown string, it looks lovely and goes with my theme (that is the same every year!)

Badoukas · 10/12/2020 14:53

Last year I nabbed a roll of new wrapping paper that someone had put out with their recycling. This year I bought 2 rolls in Lidl at a pound each. That's my kinda price range!

Pipandmum · 10/12/2020 14:53

For how much wrapping paper is the question. I could easily spend that on several rolls, bows and ribbons and tags and few special sheets. But £45 for one roll and I'd seriously need to look at my priorities.
