OH thinks I'm a nutcase 😂

But in my defence...It's so pretty! It's from not on the high street.

Normally I'd buy from a normal shop but all the sets have been a bit rubbish this year and i have this weird thing where there has to be a colour scheme (I know I'm a lunatic)

This isn't for DD present by the way. She wouldn't give a shit if I wrapped them in tin foil 😅

This is for family presents.

But @GlacindaTheTroll even it was very distinctive, how would that give me the information to work out who the OP is?! (Unless she were to send me a gift, I suppose!)

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/12/2020 14:03

If you have the money to spare, I don't see the harm.

I mean, it's all supporting the economy, and nobody would judge you for spending that amount on a bottle of wine or any other consumable.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/12/2020 14:04

YES as it's recyclable

The economy NEEDS money Smile

"You can't wrap edges in cheap paper."

Confused I'm trying - and failing - to work out what that means.

I think she is implying that it’s impossible to wrap the corners on boxes with cheap wrapping paper. Which is rubbish of course because even for someone who hates wrapping as much as me I can wrap a box with cheap paper
goose1964 · 10/12/2020 14:11

Some of that paper is gorgeous, but I think the owl on the snowy owl is actually a great grey owl.

Bluntness100 · 10/12/2020 14:11

How can posting your wrapping paper be outing, it’s not bespoke?

dontgobaconmyheart · 10/12/2020 14:12

I think theres an argument for that being a bit crass, it's a huge sum on essentially a waste item when there are many in poverty. Equally it's your own money and you're entitled to buy whatever you wish so YANBU in that respect at all.

I absolutely love wrapping OP, it's virtually a hobby for me-used to be a real highlight of the year buying papers and ribbons etc but these days it seems a bit wasteful. I wouldn't pay any money for anything that wasn't recyclable. It pains me a bit to not have things matching but I'm determined to use up every last piece of paper/ribbon/string/tags we have around the house this year, finish off parcels with the bits and bobs leftover from previous years and so on. It's been quite satisfying actually albeit I yearn to buy new things Grin (but won't). Next year I plan to use reusable packaging or buy the amount I need only by the sheet on Etsy where I've found a seller who does recycled recyclable papers.

If you're on Instagram i recommend to check out Jane Means for some great ideas and wrapping methods for avoiding using tape etc.

endofthecorridoor · 10/12/2020 14:12

i would make sure the gifts matched the fabulous wrapping. My SIL always wrapped her presents in lovely fancy paper with bits attached but she bought absolute crap that was from last years sales or out of date so completely over-promised and under delivered lol.

jessstan1 · 10/12/2020 14:13

I don't know why you are coming on here asking us, op. You've bought and paid for it, can obviously afford it - so what?

I like to see attractively wrapped gifts but have never thought about what I spend on wrapping, I doubt many people do. I have a big stock of it and add bits every year.

Just enjoy your wrapping.

yelyah22 · 10/12/2020 14:14

Could have spent a fiver on parcel paper and a rubber stamp, made your own cute home-made paper which would still have looked gorgeous with your raffia and pine cones, and still had £40 to spend on wine/give to charity/towards Christmas food, so I think YABU (and in my eyes £45 on wrapping paper is nonsensically excessive).

Bluntness100 · 10/12/2020 14:14

Op, I can’t only see rolls at 3.75 in rhe design you state, do you mean you’re ordering ten or eleven rolls?

yelyah22 · 10/12/2020 14:15

The first paragraph sums it up I think!

I make my own - I draw illustrations on parcel paper and then letter-stamp the recipients name on, it looks ace.

Retiremental · 10/12/2020 14:16

I’m with your OH. Hard earned cash spent on something that will be forgotten about as soon as it lands in the bin? Crazy. The seller sees people like you coming OP Grin

Mylittleturkeysandwich · 10/12/2020 14:16

I got some Costco wrapping paper this year. About a tenner for 4 rolls but I think they'll last me years! Would I personally spend that much on wrapping paper? No, but that's because I'm skint. If you want to and you can then go for it.

rabbitheadlights · 10/12/2020 14:18

I've spent £65 on wrapping paper/tags etc but that's for 9 of us so around 20 rolls. If it's £45per roll I'd expect it to wrap itself.

oohyoudevilyou · 10/12/2020 14:19

I'm tempted to be all outraged and say that I'd prefer you to buy B&M's value stuff and give the difference in money to a food bank, but it's your money: If you want to spend it on expensive gift wrap, vodka and fags or the donkey sanctuary it's totally up to you Grin

RaininSummer · 10/12/2020 14:19

Seems crazy to me.

magicstar1 · 10/12/2020 14:20

I love my wrapping paper etc to match, and last year got it in Aldi. Thick metallic navy paper with a stag on it, gift tags to match, ribbons, bottle bags and gift bags all the same colour theme. Only cost a couple of euro though.

butterpuffed · 10/12/2020 14:22

I can't get my head around spending so much on wrapping paper whether I could afford it or not. Even more so as OP says 'OH thinks I'm a nutcase' and 'It's so pretty' like it's amusing Hmm

if this is it I must admit it's rather lovely, I would buy it if it was on the high street iyswim

Retiremental · 10/12/2020 14:25

Foil and glittery wrapping paper can’t br recycled. How come so many people don’t realise this?

Marzipan12 · 10/12/2020 14:25

Ridiculous. Theres family's who carent even budget that amount on presents for their kids this year, strugging even to buy food. But go ahead and boast if it makes you feel superior. 😠

Shrillharridan · 10/12/2020 14:28

Sounds lovely op.

I got my paper back in January. 5p per roll! (I think it went through the till at the wrong price!)

So 25p in total for 5 rolls.

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 10/12/2020 14:31

I was £28 on wrapping paper and ribbon and that felt extravagant. The £30 on gift bags made me shudder.
