OH thinks I'm a nutcase 😂

But in my defence...It's so pretty! It's from not on the high street.

Normally I'd buy from a normal shop but all the sets have been a bit rubbish this year and i have this weird thing where there has to be a colour scheme (I know I'm a lunatic)

This isn't for DD present by the way. She wouldn't give a shit if I wrapped them in tin foil 😅

This is for family presents.

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

Posting the paper would be outing though (if anyone gave a shit which im sure they don't!)

But it's from NOTHS and it's dark blue with a galaxy print on it.
Will be finished with white raffia ribbon, white star gift tags and white pine cones (Yes really! But these didn't cost anything as we collected them from local woods...well, the spray paint cost a few quid)

That sounds absolutely gorgeous!

I say, do what makes you happy! But I am a fellow lover of gift wrapping! I feel like I need to up my game!

ClarenceBoddicker · 13/12/2020 03:16

For me yes as don’t even use wrapping paper but each to their own. You’d be fuming watching me obliviously ripping it all off to get to what the gift is making zero considerations or thoughts to your wrapping efforts

SquishSquashSqueeze · 13/12/2020 05:08

So tell me OP. You're pretty adamant that YANBU, so why did you ask the question to begin with? Hmm

Suzi888 · 13/12/2020 09:14

If £45 worth of gift wrap makes you happy, that seems reasonable! Happy Christmas! Smile

TheChosenTwo · 13/12/2020 10:30

My god it’s no different to people spending a couple of quid each on “to my mother at Christmas” cards, “to my stepdad and his new wife”, “to my dog”, “to my cousin and her wife” etc, they’re all for sale in Clintons, people must buy them too.
I’d never in a million years buy any of those - it’s nothing to do with being noble and donating the money anywhere, I just think they’re shit and a waste of time! Hate cards!

Ideasplease322 · 13/12/2020 11:25

@PetertheWalrus

If I found out that so much had been spent on wrapping my present I'd be livid. That money could have gone towards a better present! [gift]
Would you rally though. If it took a whole sheet it’s two pounds. Would you be livid about two quid?

I hate gift bags, they are expensive. I prefer wrapping paper. But I’m not bothered or offended if someone gives me a gift in a gift bag. I just say th so you and re use the gift bag.

Is this it? It's really pretty. M&S did a very similar one two christmases ago. I've been hoping they'd restock it for the subsequent Christmases x

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 13/12/2020 15:59

@alltheusernamesarealreadytaken

Yes that's the one. It's arrived now and you can tell it's good quality, lovely and thick I'm really pleased with it.

For pp I'm not adamant that I ANBU really. I think it is too much money and OH has a point.

I think I worded the OP badly but it was meant to be light hearted in a laughing at myself kind of way and it took a bit of a turn. I should know better as I've been on here a long time.

What has annoyed me and i don't think AIBU about is the whole "you should give money to charity instead" bollocks. And posts that have accused me of bragging and being entitled.

Anyway I will enjoy wrapping the presents and I'm sure some people will appreciate the nice paper but it won't bother me if they don't. I certainly won't be telling them it was expensive and asking them to take extra care unwrapping the gifts 🤣

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken

After all that, and it's not even Christmassy! 🤦‍♀️
Backtoblack1 · 13/12/2020 22:07

Sorry, I think it’s obscene.

TheWichitaWineOne · 13/12/2020 22:15

That nail polish that the hands in the picture are wearing...Miss Selfridge used to do a shade EXACTLY like that back in the 1980s/90s. I want to remember what it's called now. Bronze something?

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 13/12/2020 22:27

SquishSquashSqueeze

I love it. I'm not into over the top Christmassy paper.

It beautiful.

This is the M&S paper I got a few years ago. I want them to bring it back!

I've just looked at it, OP, it's gorgeous. Can you post a pic of the first present tjst you wrap for all to admire?! (Well, for some to admire!! Wink)

perfectstorm · 23/12/2020 18:07

If you can afford it, and it gives you pleasure, then absolutely not. People happily spend that and more on a night out, and nobody would judge that. It's been a shit year for most, and we aren't seeing loved ones. As long as it's not going to cause you financial bother, then you're actually supporting the economy, anyway.

We aren't doing so great financially this year (thankfully not the job situation, just a successful EHCP appeal's bills to pay), but I've tried to buy from small businesses for everyone, to try to spend wisely in terms of the wider economy. Not On The High Street does that. There's value in that which provides more dignity than just giving to charity - we all need the economy to survive what's looking terrifyingly like, well, a perfect storm. We bought one of these for my lovely step-mother-in-law this year. I think it's lovely, and it goes to a real person and not Jeff Bezos's bottom line.

Happy Christmas, and I'm sure the recipients will really enjoy their beautifully and thoughtfully wrapped presents. I wish you were wrapping one for me - I LOVE pretty and mysterious parcels!

perfectstorm · 23/12/2020 18:09

Sorry, was meaning to link to my stepmother-in-law's present. We love her very much and it's a personal, small-business present, too.

Nonamesavail · 23/12/2020 18:10

Well I initially said Yabu but I spent 45 on candles...which effectively goes to waste anyway too...

Is it Watercolour Nightsky Celestial? Very nice and you can use any leftover for other gifts because it’s not excessively Christmassy.🙂
Flavabobble · 23/12/2020 20:38

38p a roll in Asda this morning. I bought 2.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 23/12/2020 20:43

I pick recyclable paper as l work in the recycling industry. I get annoyed when people send me cards with glitter and plastic coated paper. They clearly don't know me and/or don't care!

Kjled · 23/12/2020 21:41

I say go for it if you have the money. I love nice wrapping paper. I was looking at some from Cox &Cox, absolutely stunning but sadly out of my price range.

Darbs76 · 23/12/2020 21:48

I laughed so loud when I read that you consider posting your wrapping paper ‘outing’. On that note alone yes you are crazy spending £45 on something that will go in the bin. Yes a present looks pretty wrapped all nicely, might be fun at first but when on present no 50 I’d have lost the plot!

ecoeco · 25/01/2021 10:27

This year my challenge was to reduce the unnecessary wastage of wrapping paper (especially those made with plastic).
so now I make "eco-friendly gift bag"s so each bag is personal to your family. The one bag can be filled every birthday for different members of your family. Presents need no wrapping, especially large ones. Some smaller presents can be wrapped.
I have a Facebook page for anyone wanting to buy.
For all you seamstresses out there, please make a gift bag for your family. It would be a personal present that will last forever. you wont need to buy wrapping paper and no need to waste money and paper
