No I’m not a perv, I’m a fat lazy bastard that needs a kick up the arse. 3 years ago I was at the gym 3 times a week, swimming twice a week and practicing martial arts twice a week. Now i walk the dog for an hour a day. That’s it. I’ve put on two stone and feel like shit.
I bought a costume with a plan to go back to the gym but when I tried it on I looked absolutely disgusting, it actually made me not want to go at all and I sent it back.

So what do you guys wear for swimming?? I have no fashion sense so if I could at least fit in with what people actually wear that would be a start.

My newer one is navy blue bulge control from M&S. It's for swimming in. The point is, once you're IN the water, nobody's looking anyway. They're swimming!

CardoMondo · 09/12/2020 20:28

The one I bought was a Speedo from Next and I looked like a potato in it. Horrendous. The one I used to wear won’t go anywhere near me now

I’ve got a Boden tankini like this one. It’s not too terrible.

MinnieMountain · 09/12/2020 20:31

It’s got to be tight so you’re streamlined. Honestly, nobody cares.

Come join us on the Swimming for Fitness thread.

CherryPavlova · 09/12/2020 20:37

Mine are generally plain black. Some have a white or coloured piping edge. The potato look is fine. Most people like potatoes, don’t they?
Nobody cares. I swim in sea and now it’s chillier people stop, stare, chat, laugh. I’m not a Baywatch beauty, far too many rounded parts, but nobody cares at all. They laugh at the idea of swimming in November not at a wobbly bottom.

DimidDavilby · 09/12/2020 20:40

Cherry dear its December Wink has been for a while.

WhataCant · 09/12/2020 20:41

Try Lands End (in the sale) they have lots of different styles and varieties. Personally I prefer one with a gathered ‘tummy control’ section. Very plain swimming costumes are not that flattering on me.

Other posters are right - no-one gives a shit what you’re wearing in the water, but if it makes it easier for you to swim OP then find one you’re comfortable in

CherryPavlova · 09/12/2020 20:41

Oh yes. So it is. November last time I went but going this weekend.

Nacreous · 09/12/2020 20:44

I mainly wear a cheap slazenger one from sports direct. They're comfy and don't cause too much horror getting into them.

I look better in an M and S one with tummy control but I hate wriggling into it and the positive things it does for my bust and tummy with its cups and ruching do bad things for my swim speed, so I mainly don't bother.

I think you just have to roll with it really, everyone is a lot more interested in themselves than you.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/12/2020 20:45

Batoko - recycled and nice and thick and holdy-in www.batoko.com/collections/swimsuits/products/orca-swimsuit

Mypathtriedtokillme · 09/12/2020 20:47

Mine has an boob support and wide straps.
But in saying that it’s comfortable and isn’t just plain black. Same style as below but with colour.

Needallthesleep · 09/12/2020 20:51

The sweaty Betty one is as flattering as I’ve found

CMOTDibbler · 09/12/2020 21:00

I have an embarrassing number of cossies. For lane swimming at the pool I like a boy leg suit so I don't have to think about it wriggling up - I have a Maru one with longer legs, and several Slazenger boy leg ones from Sports Direct which are cheap, cheerful and keep everything where it should be.
My very favourite cossie is from Deakin and Blue and it makes me look fantastic. Pricey, but compared to the Speedo costume which makes me feel like a trussed up ham (and is reserved for under my wetsuit at this time of year when getting it off quickly is the main criteria) its well worth it and is ethical as well

It's November on Cherry's home planet Grin
DougRossIsTheBoss · 09/12/2020 21:10

Those Deakin and Blue ones look really nice and the models look like real women and not too airbrushed. Attractive women granted but definitely real. Very inspiring

I have this tankini, from Bravissimo. Went in for a full swimming costume, but the assistant suggested trying a tankini as it’s less of a faff when you need the toilet. I love it- it’s got built in boob support which I definitely need!

CardoMondo · 09/12/2020 22:09

I love Tankinis but I’m always worried my belly plops out of the top 😩 I’ve never been thus far before so it’s made me so self conscious

Needsll thesleep - which sweaty Betty one, do you have a link, I am on an eternal hunt for the ideal costume

lljkk · 09/12/2020 22:15

I swim twice a week. I have a plain back job & this Zoggs legsuit. The Zoggs suit is fairly ugly. I don't care, it stops me worrying about how well I shaved.

Try brastop. They do cup size bikinis, tankinis and costumes and they always seem to have a sale on

lljkk · 09/12/2020 22:18

There was a woman in my lane wearing this style but in ? leopard print. She was slow (too slow for our lane). Her suit was unusual for any session, but especially lanes session. My boobs would escape if I wore something like this. I don't care what she wore, but was happy when she moved to the right lane.

At one point at my pool, to seem like one of the 'keen' swimmers (channel, competitive, club) you had to have a Dolfin Uglies suit. Distinguished by the stripey straps. I imagine they are good quality or wouldn't be so popular with club/sport swimmers.

GoSkimResources is skimming each and every link I open now from this thread, about swimming cozzies.

I am going to get targeted swimsuit ads everywhere I go online for at least a month now, aren't ?!

shewhomustbeEbayed · 27/12/2020 17:49

I’ve recently started hydro so needed one after many years of doing without. I bought a colourful, tummy control one with fabric sweeping across the front and padded bra style with adjustable length straps. It works well. I picked up a proper racing back black one in the sale and no proper breast support so will be sticking with the original.
