No I’m not a perv, I’m a fat lazy bastard that needs a kick up the arse. 3 years ago I was at the gym 3 times a week, swimming twice a week and practicing martial arts twice a week. Now i walk the dog for an hour a day. That’s it. I’ve put on two stone and feel like shit.
I bought a costume with a plan to go back to the gym but when I tried it on I looked absolutely disgusting, it actually made me not want to go at all and I sent it back.

So what do you guys wear for swimming?? I have no fashion sense so if I could at least fit in with what people actually wear that would be a start.

I wear a tie side bikini, bikini bottoms and a rashie, or nothing if appropriate.

pez123 · 27/12/2020 18:01

is this an insult

notagoodyear · 27/12/2020 18:03

I don't get why women's suit have to show their backsides. Get one with legs - I have one with legs that go halfway down my thighs and I don't care. Men don't have to put up with that level of exposure so why should we. If you are feeling self-conscious, there is no need to be showing so much flesh if that is not something you want to do. It doesn't impair your swimming to have some fabric over your backside and thighs or else top-level swimmers would be competing in high-level suits, but they are not, they are swearing suits that go down to their knees.

OhMsBeliever · 27/12/2020 18:07

I got a shortie swimsuit from decathlon because I hate the ones half up my (fat) arse.

Ay? Confused

I have a black bikini from Figleaves. Pour Moi i think.

I'm not in particularly good shape but still i find i look better in a two piece. Once pieces just make me look incredibly frumpy.

LostaraYil · 27/12/2020 18:10

OP, I also have a speedo suit and I hate it. The legs are so low they dig into my very wide hips. Can anyone recommend something with high legs? I'm tempted by the tankinis, at least then I could maybe get the bottoms in a bigger size.

pez123 · 27/12/2020 18:26

got wa i needed from this page thankyou

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 27/12/2020 18:30

M&S sale in the summer - didn't get a lot of opportunity to wear it this summer, but I think the most flattering one I've ever owned.
It's a post surgery one; I'm not post surgery, but it means the cups are really supportive and never give the feeling that you're about to fall out of it.

drivingmisspotty · 27/12/2020 18:40

I have this Speedo one from bravissimo and I love it: www.bravissimo.com/products/premiere-ultimate-swimsuit-so105/

It has underwired support inside but I also feel really secure like nothing will pop out.

drivingmisspotty · 27/12/2020 18:43

But I would also say I am sure you don’t look like a potato! And also nobody will judge. All types of body shapes at our pool and I don’t think anyone pays any attention, I just think it’s good on anyone who makes it there and works out.

cheerfulpanda · 27/12/2020 19:02

I have this which I picked up at my local Adidas outlet store:
www.wiggle.co.uk/adidas-performance-t-suit-allover-printed-takedown

I have a belly and the pattern is simple but does a good job of not making me look total potato! I like the sporty cut and the colours are interesting but not ‘look at me’.

I used to have a speedo cozzie which fit well before I got in the water but I struggled to manoeuvre out of it when it was wet! This has a nice amount of stretch.

I’m thinking of picking up a similar second one when the shops reopen near me.

MrsFHolmes · 27/12/2020 19:28

I do lots of lane swimming at my gym. I have about 15 costumes- mostly speedo. Their designs can be quite boring but the groovy brands like Funkita are cut so high in the leg/arse... I really do not want my 50 year old butt cheeks out on show. They have really open backs- I really don't want my back fat out.... so I stick with Speedo- but carefully check the rear view on the websites before buying.
Look at:
www.proswimwear.co.uk/
www.simplyswim.com/collections/womens-swimsuits

You might like Adidas- sporty enough for lane swimming but with features of leisure costumes, like full linings and internal bra etc.
I am big and wobbly - a former athlete gone completely to seed- but I truly don't give a fig. I'm not trying to pull. I don't look in any mirrors. I just love to swim and grit my teeth and get on with the entry to the pool as quickly as poss.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 27/12/2020 19:36

Black, from M&S or maybe Sainsbury’s, with a tum control panel.

I have been swimming all this year and I can assure you that all shapes of womankind were represented in the pool and no one gave a monkeys. The gym pool isn’t the beach, various functional costumes that stand up to frequent use seem the norm.

Tig33 · 27/12/2020 19:47

I tend to go for a practical Speedo style. They last well and are comfortable. www.speedo.com/uk/en/winter-sale

Spottyspottyladybird · 27/12/2020 19:55

I generally go for some kind of tummy control swimming costume. M and s and matalan were my most recent buys!

Lalliella · 27/12/2020 20:04

I have nothing to add to this thread except to tell you that my friend when living in America went to look round a gym, they offered her a free swim, but she said she hadn’t got her costume with her. They fell about laughing because over there a costume is a fancy dress outfit! Just telling you because I love that story!

SabrinaThwaite · 27/12/2020 20:05

After years of dull fugly Speedos I bought an Uglies costume (which is what all the kids were training in) and love it.

Glittertwins · 27/12/2020 20:38

Have a selection of Speedo, Maru, Tyr, Funkita here. But I swim with a club, when allowed.

cheezy · 27/12/2020 20:48

I just bought a finisterre swimsuit and think it’s going to be very comfortable for my long torso.

EBearhug · 27/12/2020 20:56

I've had Maru, Arena, Speedo, and currently Nabaiji from Decathlon - a lot cheaper than Speedo and last as well.

I'm size 20 and I care more doing swimming and aquarobics than I do about what people think I look like. No one cares what you look like anyway, and half the people in the pool won't be able to see that well, as they'll have taken off their glasses to swim.

sunshineandskyscrapers · 27/12/2020 21:39

I've had really nice Bravissimo costumes. They have integrated bras and really keep everything in place. Once on they feel amazing, but pulling the bra part up over my hips was a bit of a chore, and even put me off swimming for a while. I now have a really cheap m&co one. It's a simple design, as I am not interested in drawing any attention, in a positive or negative way. It's very comfortable, and although not as supportive as a Bravissimo costume it's supportive enough for swimming and overall much more comfortable. I wouldn't want to do an aerobics class in it or anything like that though. It's a lot like this one here, but I think mine has a higher back.

TheChosenTwo · 27/12/2020 21:42

I wear tankinis with either shorts or swim skirts. Makes me feel more secure!
I hate my wobbly thighs even though I know most women have some degree of wobbliness in the thigh department!
I don’t swim for pleasure though, I find the whole experience deeply unpleasant in fact. I only swim when I take my children, the traitorous bastards love it Angry Grin

TheChosenTwo · 27/12/2020 21:44

I’ve had things similar to this one in the past.
