‘Casa de Andrews’

Noticed this trend in my area of people hanging up such house names. Generally ‘Casa de ——‘. You’re in the South East, not Madrid.

AIBU or is this ridiculously twee?

Yes, both ridiculous and painfully twee.

Ferrari458 · 09/12/2020 17:24

Never seen it and I'm in the South East.

cactusisblooming · 09/12/2020 17:33

Yes very twee. I haven't seen that (although I'm not in SE) but increasingly now I see people on facebook checking into their houses with an equally as twee moniker. Usually their surname Tower/Palace, so Trent Towers/Porters Palace type of thing. A colleague does it all the time and it gives me the rage.

Sumptuosity · 09/12/2020 17:35

Surely that's humorous/sarcastic?

(Unless you're Del Boy.)

Passmeabottlemrjones · 09/12/2020 17:37

Yes it's really annoying.

Also annoying is referring to your own family as 'Team Andrews'.

Circumlocutious · 09/12/2020 17:38

I don’t think so. With this particular house, a lot of effort has clearly been placed on the front of house appearance, landscaping and whatnot... Maybe the owner wanted to recreate a particular ‘feel’?

5 minutes round the corner there are two more Casas... Spotted during an obligatory toddler walk.

Oh dear God.

Susiesue61 · 09/12/2020 17:43

Anyone remember Casa Bevron 😆

dudsville · 09/12/2020 17:44

Let people have fun outside of your parameters.

Sumptuosity · 09/12/2020 17:44

One woman I know (head of the PTA, incidentally, so practically unavoidable) went one further than this and coined her own hashtag... #AndrewsMagic.

#AndrewsMagic was trotted out every time one of her family managed the most minimal achievement. Eight out of ten on the weekly spelling test? Runner up in the egg decoration competition? Scraped a pass in Grade 1 recorder? #AndrewsMagic!

😱😱😱

Admittedly I'm not a user of Facebook so may be misunderstanding, but surely people checking in and out of their own home publicly online is a burglar's dream?!

ForestDad · 09/12/2020 17:49

I don't think it's worth getting worked up about.
Better that than some of the other crap signs people hang up inside their houses.

TillyTopper · 09/12/2020 17:55

I've seen this too, but it doesn't bother me. People can call their houses what they like.

warmandtoasty2day · 09/12/2020 18:01

Better than 'dunroamin', but it's everyone to their own, one of the sillest i've seen was 'rose cottage' on a 3 storey town house, wtaf ?

1Morewineplease · 09/12/2020 18:02

Many folk like to call their homes after a foreign holiday that means a lot to them , particularly if they go there many times because they love the place.

It's fine.

Gingernaut · 09/12/2020 18:06

Back in the 70s and 80s, there was a short trend for wrought signs with puns on 'Dun'

Dunrovin, Dunworkin, Duncuttin - they were stupid.

YADNBU.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 09/12/2020 18:11

If it makes them happy what’s the harm, sounds like they have taken pride in their home by landscaping etc which can only be a good thing for the area. Can’t understand why it bothers you so much.

Audreyseyebrows · 09/12/2020 18:12

I wouldn’t call it twee. It’s more brash and ostentatious.
I wouldn’t be friends with someone who lived in ‘casa de dickhead’ in the U.K.

peppita · 09/12/2020 18:22

My dad is Colombian, and has a Spanish surname and I'd cringe if my parents did something like this 🤣 so it's even worse when they have a super English-sounding surname.

RaspberryCoulis · 09/12/2020 18:24

Casa Bevron!

nancybotwinbloom · 09/12/2020 18:26

What is casa bevron?

nancybotwinbloom · 09/12/2020 18:27

Is it a couple called Bev and Ron Grin

Bellagio40 · 09/12/2020 18:27

@Susiesue61 Yes!! Casa Bevron was the first thing I thought of when I read the title!

flaviaritt · 09/12/2020 18:27

I hate it when people name their houses when there is clearly a street number.
