‘Casa de Andrews’

Noticed this trend in my area of people hanging up such house names. Generally ‘Casa de ——‘. You’re in the South East, not Madrid.

AIBU or is this ridiculously twee?

That's totally just reminded me of my old bf, but I suspect he's not the sort to do it now 😂

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 09/12/2020 18:29

@Susiesue61

Anyone remember Casa Bevron 😆
Yes! Grin
DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow · 09/12/2020 18:31

@user1936863452

increasingly now I see people on facebook checking into their houses with an equally as twee moniker.

Admittedly I'm not a user of Facebook so may be misunderstanding, but surely people checking in and out of their own home publicly online is a burglar's dream?!

I don't get this argument. If I post I am going on holiday, only my actual friends- ie people I know and trust IRL and who probably already know where I am going- will see the post. Unless you have shit settings, or shit friends, I really don't see the problem with posting that your home will be empty.

Anyway, YANBU to find it annoying but they ANBU to want a stupid name on their house!

Wauden · 09/12/2020 18:34

On a tangent, I like to see the really old house names given before street numbers.

IsFinnRogersDead · 09/12/2020 18:36

@Gingernaut

Back in the 70s and 80s, there was a short trend for wrought signs with puns on 'Dun'

Dunrovin, Dunworkin, Duncuttin - they were stupid.

YADNBU.

I walk past a house called Dunvegan every day, I presume after the Scottish town but I'm never quite sure if they're just in there stuffing bacon and egg sarnies.
randomsabreuse · 09/12/2020 18:36

Best one I saw was "Camion Vista" adjacent to "Dartmoor View". Both had distant views of Dartmoor, over the haulage depot the opposite beside of the road...

Susiesue61 · 09/12/2020 18:36
@Susiesue61 Yes!! Casa Bevron was the first thing I thought of when I read the title!
Ha ha!! The beautiful Bev and Ron in the wonderful Brookside ❤️

veeeeh · 09/12/2020 18:41

Most amusing one I saw was the late Cilla Blacks villa in Spain..... Casa Roll. Lol

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 09/12/2020 18:42

A friend of mine lived in a house her parents named “Cair Paravel”. It was a 1970s executive - style house on an estate in Horsham.

LOVE the #AndrewsMagic. Soooo cringey!

Leeds2 · 09/12/2020 18:45

I thought first of Casa Bevron too! Used to love Brookside.

Barmyfarmy · 09/12/2020 18:48

I have a friend who's house doesn't have a name (think cardboard box shaped new build in massive estate) so she's informally named it 'Casa da Smith' and is using it as part of her address! Doesn't quite understand that that's not how it works and is getting very shirty on Facebook complaining about companies not using her proper address...

ShirleyPhallus · 09/12/2020 18:50

@Sumptuosity

Also annoying is referring to your own family as 'Team Andrews'.

One woman I know (head of the PTA, incidentally, so practically unavoidable) went one further than this and coined her own hashtag... #AndrewsMagic.

#AndrewsMagic was trotted out every time one of her family managed the most minimal achievement. Eight out of ten on the weekly spelling test? Runner up in the egg decoration competition? Scraped a pass in Grade 1 recorder? #AndrewsMagic!

😱😱😱

Ummm I know someone called Jill who has coined the hashtag #thrillwithjill

It’s on every single one of her photos, even the really boring ones like having a cup of tea

AgnesNaismith · 09/12/2020 18:50

We have a ‘CostaBomb’ locally Blush

Staffy1 · 09/12/2020 18:52

There's a "bluebell cottage" near us that has a long row of daffodils outside it every spring, and not a bluebell to be seen.

Trentmum · 09/12/2020 18:53

Casa Bevron!! Utterly brilliant. Used to adore Brooky.

Susanwouldntlikeit · 09/12/2020 18:56

My student son rented a house and usual last minute panic with paperwork as guarantor so said I would drop it off at the Estate Agent’s home as lockdown and he not in the office. Bastarding address impossible to find as had the Casa de type house name on a massively long main road with all the houses called things like that or grandiose titles like ‘Priory Grange’ (eg 3bed 70s bungalow)

HopeClearwater · 09/12/2020 18:56

@Sumptuosity #AndrewsMagic

That’s brilliant!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/12/2020 18:57

Dhs boss has surname Manor. It’s a new build 🤦🏻‍♀️ Backing onto a canal.

He is known as a ponce though.

PolarnOPirate · 09/12/2020 18:57

Our old nextdoor-but-one house was called 'Dave'. Just Dave, where the house number would have been. 'Casa de....' makes me cringe sooooo hard!

JingsMahBucket · 09/12/2020 18:59

FFS. Let people enjoy things that have nothing to do with you.

LemmysAceCard · 09/12/2020 19:03

A house near me is called Helms Deep.

My kind of people.

Maybe it's ironic.
