‘Casa de Andrews’

Noticed this trend in my area of people hanging up such house names. Generally ‘Casa de ——‘. You’re in the South East, not Madrid.

AIBU or is this ridiculously twee?

My house has a name!! We didn’t name it though... it’s been there since the house was built well over 100 years ago. Most of the houses on our street and the streets nearby have names, I think they must predate the numbering of houses.

We don’t ever use the house name though, always the number

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/12/2020 19:25

@ElizaLaLa possibly but they also have paid for titles so style themselves lord and lady.

Circumlocutious · 09/12/2020 19:28

@LemmysAceCard

A house near me is called Helms Deep.

My kind of people.

Now this I can get onboard with.

They sound like arses.

#ThrillWithJill sounds like she could be really good company! (or a real weirdo, I suppose...)

Heartofglass12345 · 09/12/2020 20:43

There are a row of houses near me called sunnyside villas, opposite a petrol station in the South Wales valleys Grin

ChequerBoard · 09/12/2020 20:47

Reminds me of Brookside (anyone else remember that) and Casa Bevron owned by the unlovely Bev and equally vile Ron.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 09/12/2020 20:52

one of MIL's neighbours has called their house The Farthings, only it's in a weird scrolly typeface and the h in Farthings seems to vanish

lioncitygirl · 09/12/2020 20:57

people dont know how dangerous checking in and out of their houses is on fb is - my neighbour got burgled because of it.

Soundbyte · 09/12/2020 21:01

I might be U but I think naming houses at all is just cringe.

EckhartLolly · 09/12/2020 21:02

Let me guess, the same houses that have door bows?

TeenyTinyDustinHoffman · 09/12/2020 21:11

My grandad used to say this about our house as a joke* but pronounced it kay-sah. Kay-sah del O'Donoghue. Pure class.

*(mostly a joke, but a conversation with him was like the Four Yorkshiremen sketch, if it had a roof and more than two walls it was luxury).

JovialNickname · 10/12/2020 01:58

I think it's funny and must be tongue in cheek.... mustn't it? I refer to my shithole of a house as Jovial Towers.

DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow · 11/12/2020 22:24

Surely if you have decent settings and do't ass randoms on facebook, then it's not really dangerous? I set my status as default to specific people (people I know IRL and trust) and have another "group" for, ie work colleagues and friends of friends. I would have no issue at all checking in and out and my actual friends seeing. I wouldn't post it to all friends though. People generally have shitty settings on FB though. If you lock it down properly, don't see the issue.

Casa Bevron! OMG how old i feel is wiped out by the hilarity of Bevron! Loved that prog xx

dancinfeet · 11/12/2020 22:43

One fairly near us is called Tuksumduin. I love houses new or old with a name that actually reflects the house (like another nearby property called ten gables, which indeed it has) but made up names like the above or ones made up of people's combined names (Vickyanlee or johncilla) are ridiculous and very naff
