To be alarmed at how much I fancy (fictional) Prince Philip?

I don’t think it’s just the actors, because I don’t generally like Matt Smith but both MS and Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip are 🔥

I’m sure in real life I would hate that kind of super-stiff-upper-lip patrician crap but in the Crown it works?!

Ok... who else?

Yes, I found it alarming too, esp MS PP!.

KleinBlue · 06/12/2020 22:58

You are a pervert. Did you fancy him even in the navel gazing episode about midlife masculinity with the astronauts and priests?

Goosefoot · 07/12/2020 02:53

Attraction is a weird thing. I find both actors more unattractive than the real Phillip who was quite a nice looking man, though not really my type.

YADNBU. Esp Tobias Menzies. I would be leaving my door adjar a lot 😂

SisterMichael · 07/12/2020 10:07

Interesting Goosefoot. I always forget he was very handsome when he was younger.

Matt Smith doesn't do it for me, but as Prince Philip... Amazing considering that the character he plays is a complete arse

KleinBlue · 07/12/2020 10:34

The real Sr Michael would have Prince Philip, Matt Smith and Tobias Menzies for breakfast, though. She’d karate chop them on the windpipe and stroll off to tell some priest to cop himself on.

MaidClarion · 07/12/2020 10:41

Who was it that said Matt Smith looks like a very handsome man who’s been hit in the face by a shovel?

Brighterthansunflowers · 07/12/2020 10:56

If you look at old photos of Prince Philip he was actually better looking than Matt Smith in his day (although I do have a soft spot for Matt Smith)

I saw him many many years ago, late 1950s, when he opened something near us and we were all a bit smitten, he was very tall and blonde, we must have been 11/12.
WhatATimeToBeAlive · 07/12/2020 11:41

Prince Philip was very good looking in his younger days.

MoChridhe · 07/12/2020 11:57

Tobias is Outlander was a really mean villain, the worst I have seen. I think he is a good actor, I don't fancy him but there must be something about him if he was able to have an affair with Kristin Scott Thomas who was in a relationship with a gynaecologists at the time.

Are all gynaecologists automatically good in bed, is that what you’re saying Mo ...?

KleinBlue · 07/12/2020 13:08

Based on my experience, absolutely not, @SisterMichael!

(I know someone who was treated by KCT's ex-husband, who is an IVF specialist, and they couldn't speak highly enough of him... But as someone who helped them have their twins, not as a lover. Grin)

The bit about gynaecologists had cracked me up! Is that the bar at its highest setting?🤣

Thats why I struggle with him, can't get past Black Jack Randall.
DonnaQuixotedelaManchester · 07/12/2020 13:24

You are not wrong to notice Tobias Menzies😉

MoChridhe · 07/12/2020 13:32

I found out the gynaecologist thing on tumblr from some blogger, see excerpt below Blush

"my ONE, ONLY, Possession, Obsession, Lord and Master is one fine Mr. Tobias Menzies. I would deny that man nothing. On my knees, ready to grant him his every desire all day every day, and twice on Sunday. But I don’t post very often about him, because he’s super stealthy, and there’s little info about him. Except, you know, the time he swept Kristin Scott Thomas off her feet right out from under her French gynecologist husband. Tobs beat out a French pussy expert. Ponder that long and hard. I said hard. :-) Now, if that doesn’t tell you Tobias has mad skills in bed, I don’t know what does. Oooh la la, I’m getting all hot and bothered just thinking about it."

KleinBlue · 07/12/2020 13:36

I think that blogger has never (a) slept with a French person and (b) never slept with a gynaecologist. The two together does not actually constitute some kind of sex-goddery!

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 07/12/2020 13:45

I’ve been wondering why in the last series he was so gentle

Why the character change

SisterMichael · 07/12/2020 16:41

That has really made me laugh Mo! Grin

Ok I need to check out Outlander, what channel/network was it on?

I remember taking a fancy to Tobias Menzies back when he played Brutus in 'Rome'. Although there were several more obviously attractive men in that series - James Purefoy for one- Tobias did have a certain je ne sais quoi...

Mind you, the real Prince Philip was a stunner back in the day - much more attractive than Matt Smith or Tobias Menzies. You can see why the young queen was besotted. I think this is a rare case of actors being less attractive than the real life figure they portray. It's usually the other way round. Josh O'Connor, for example, is much better looking than Charles, and Claire Foy much prettier than the queen, although she was fairly attractive in her youth.

Tobias Menzies memorably played a (gay) gynaecologist in 'Catastrophe'. I still remember the sound of him slapping on his rubber gloves!
MoChridhe · 07/12/2020 17:22

Outlander is on Amazon prime.
