To be alarmed at how much I fancy (fictional) Prince Philip?

I don’t think it’s just the actors, because I don’t generally like Matt Smith but both MS and Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip are 🔥

I’m sure in real life I would hate that kind of super-stiff-upper-lip patrician crap but in the Crown it works?!

Ok... who else?

@Duvetstay

I did not know this re Kristin ST!

That's good gossip.

I agree that all Prince Philip incarnations (Inc the real one) are 🔥

I also have a huge thing about Jared Harris as Queens dad.

I thought I was the only one with a thing for Jared Harris 😆
KatherineofTarragon · 07/12/2020 22:10

@DenholmReynholm "But Matt Smith has no eyebrows!"

I know! I was not keen on him either!

@IcedPurple agree, but he can do seasons 5 & 6 !

Duvetstay · 07/12/2020 22:32

InterfectoremVulpes - yes, Jared H is sooo sexy. Don't know why as he looks like a frog.

There's a recent series called "The Terror" which is amazing, JH plays Arctic explorer Francis Crozier and he does strange things to me. It also has Tobias Menzies in (keeping to topic)

KleinBlue · 07/12/2020 23:01

Despite knowing that Jared Harris could not possibly make many appearances in The Crown, I was still cross when he stopped being a flashback. He’s brilliant. And attractive. Despite, as you say, looking like a charismatic frog.

KittyWindbag · 07/12/2020 23:07

Omg YES I feel seen!!

gingerbiscuits · 07/12/2020 23:09

Tobias Menzies...100%! 😄

TrashPanda · 07/12/2020 23:24

I haven't seen The Crown and Josh O'connor is the only one of the people mentioned I know, he's fantastic in God's Own Country and Only You. Was doing some googling and Jared Harris is original Dumbledore's son Grin

HOkieCOkie · 07/12/2020 23:25

He was a very handsome man in his day. But yes bother crown Philips are lovely

DrFoxtrot · 07/12/2020 23:45

I came to this thread thinking you meant animated Prince Philip from Sleeping Beauty and I was poised to say YANBU because I fancy him too. But you didn't mean him Blush

To be alarmed at how much I fancy (fictional) Prince Philip?
turnitonagain · 07/12/2020 23:51

Never found Matt Smith attractive until he played Prince Philip Blush

CounsellorTroi · 08/12/2020 01:17

Make the most of Tobias Menzies, PP will eventually be played by Jonathan Pryce!

CuppaZa · 08/12/2020 01:18

Matt Smith as Prince Philip is lush

EuphieKat · 08/12/2020 02:30

The real Prince Philip and the Queen made a very handsome couple back ‘in the day’ (to be fair, they still do!). Enjoyed both Matt Smith and Tobias Menzies.

Moo678 · 08/12/2020 03:47

I was already predisposed to like Tobias Menzies. I totally fancy his evil character in Outlander even though he is super bad. I have been left very confused by the whole thing and am glad I am not alone!

Eminybob · 08/12/2020 03:53

YANBU. I had never noticed TM before the crown and now I’m a little bit in love with him.
And also the actress who plays Anne (can’t remember her name)
I was watching a couple of cast interviews the other day and they all have quite posh real life voices apart from Anne who is a proper cockney, it cracked me up!

SisterMichael · 08/12/2020 11:02

Yes the actress playing Anne is brilliant! I love her relationship with PP and I can totally see him bluntly telling HM Anne is his favourite Grin

DrFoxtrot Grin this is the kind of thread where you won’t be judged for fancying an animated character.

I also reD an interview with Josh O'Connor the other day - he's a leftie republican.....

Yes, he turned down the audition several times because he didn't want to play Charles, before someone sucked him in by pointing out how weird it would be to play someone real whose purpose in life will only kick into play once his mother dies -- and for them both to know that all their lives...

He's very good as Charles, actually. I'd only ever seen him in The Durrells, where he just flounces about typing and being drunkenly sarky to Keeley Hawes.

Flumpaphone · 08/12/2020 13:31

For everyone saying he's evil in Outlander, yes he is as Jack but he also plays Frank who isn't.

As a bonus, you also get the delicious Sam Heughan

Seriously, watch it, it's very good (although if you want to keep some of your Tobias love in tact, maybe avoid the last episode of S1)

Onmydoorstep · 08/12/2020 13:42

I thought there was something about the last season (fictional) Prince Philip.

My BIL is a gynecologist. He's lovely, but I know no more than that!!

liveitwell · 08/12/2020 14:40

Haha in the real world I think I'd be majorly put off by his arrogance. But in The Crown, it's almost refreshing how straight talking he is amongst a family of backstabbers. He's got the vulnerability from his childhood but the confidence of his adulthood. Also very ambitious. A good mixture for attraction. But yeah, in the real world I think I'd find him an absolute nightmare.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 08/12/2020 16:16

I don't go for smug smart arse with swagger types but he did make me laugh at lot as the younger version and I found myself fancying him Confused.

I actually think PP comes across quite well in most of The Crown (the stuff about boarding school aside). It annoys me that he looks all angry in the trailer and it's implied he's plotting against Diana. He's the one who encourages Charles to be with her, and also gives her a good talking to about her attitude. Plus, his relationship with Anne is adorable.
liveitwell · 08/12/2020 22:52

I find him quite egotistical. He's not very good at listening to others. And is quite rude to staff. But yes, he's not an angry figure and did seem very in favour of Diana (even though he knew Charles was in love with Camilla).
