A cupboard that the Tupperware falls out of when you open it Blush

topcat2014 · 04/12/2020 20:53

I like listening to farming today at 545 am on radio 4. But I think I invented that habit!!

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 04/12/2020 20:54

Children.

And cardigans.

Sidge · 04/12/2020 20:54

I inherited my in laws electric carving knife and it’s bloody brilliant.

It’s an original Moulinex one from the 60s or 70s. They don’t make em like that anymore.

LindaEllen · 04/12/2020 20:55

Haha, coasters for me too actually!

And I used to think my mum was the saddest person in the world for loving bedding so much .. and I'm right there with her now!

PeppaPigMakesMeGrrrrr · 04/12/2020 20:57

A slow cooker.
And a special jug for juice decanted from a carton that lives in the fridge door. No more drips from a carton in this house!

Arborea · 04/12/2020 20:57

@RB68

Anyone wanting ercol chic room divider, chairs and table and high side board LMK doing MIL house clearance at the moment bloody nightmare
Hell yes! Where are they? Grin
WaltzForDebbie · 04/12/2020 20:58

One of those thermos flasks where the cups screw on the top.

I got one of those in the 'playground with toddler at 7am' phase.
Armi · 04/12/2020 21:02

@Ettie

A dark coat specifically for going to funerals!
Yes! This!

I also have massive knickers, but that’s more my granny than my mother. Also a collection of practical aprons with pockets in the front.

Mummyratbag · 04/12/2020 21:02

Magnolia walls (mine are off white, but still)

AgeLikeWine · 04/12/2020 21:02

Enough food in the cupboards and freezer to withstand a nuclear winter. Oh how I used to mock my mother with her 20 tins of soup and her massive sacks of rice & pasta. “They aren’t going to bring back rationing, mum!”, I would say, laughing.

Then came 2020.....

hiredandsqueak · 04/12/2020 21:02

Big knickers, cobweb sweeper I remember rolling my eyes at dm when she brought it out, cool bag for frozen groceries, carrier bag organiser.

TramaDollface · 04/12/2020 21:03

Trouser press!!!

SenecaFallsRedux · 04/12/2020 21:04

Another vote for the thermos. I'm still working from home and mine goes up with me to my home office every morning.

Mybedislisting · 04/12/2020 21:05

Sloggi pants - apple catchers we used to snigger at mum now I love the warm bum and tum

As a secondary school teacher who now has no classroom (skipping all over the site, leaping from bubble to bubble, teaching in well-ventilated, fucking freezing, rooms) and no access to hot drinks as the staffroom is shut, this has been my very favourite purchase of 2020.
Geppetto · 04/12/2020 21:09

A radio in the kitchen permanently tuned to Radio 4.

BeaufortScale · 04/12/2020 21:13

Lipstick.
More than one cool bag.
A ‘going away’ checklist.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 04/12/2020 21:13

@dinglethedragon

I'm definitely on the verge of buying an electric blanket!
Definitely buy the electric blanket. You won't regret it!
JaceLancs · 04/12/2020 21:13

Big knickers
Ercol and G plan
Crystal glasses
A Volkswagen
Many many kitchen gadgets
Sewing box
Button tin
Nightwear

theinternetmakesmyeyesfeelsick · 04/12/2020 21:15

DF has a plasticwashing basket thing that sits on a set of wheels and the whole ensemble looks like a pram- they bought it before I was 10 so it's about 50 years old now. Stops you having to bend down to pick up the washing when you're hanging it on the line.

He asked me if I want it the other day.

Radio 2 and brushed cotton sheets Blush

jessstan1 · 04/12/2020 21:19

Nothing wrong with coasters or a gravy boat, surely? I'd have thought they were quite normal, household items for any era.

Eckhart · 04/12/2020 21:20

@lljkk

Slow cookers that MNers gush about make me laugh. My mother loved hers in the 1970s. Although she barely ever cooked.

sorry, I'm struggling to think of a single thing my mother had that I thought was naff then but now like loads. My mother loved her hot tub, too... I don't have one.

Isn't the whole point of a slow cooker that you barely ever have to cook..?
