To turn down a 3x salary job?

I'm really really torn. Earlier in the year I got offered a job that pays £60k. I couldn't take it as it required relocation. They just got back to me to say they're happy to offer same role, different location but within commuting distance (1 hour drive). My current job pays £21k. I love what I'm building with it but I seriously doubt it will ever get beyond £30k. So it's between loving my company/job and the £££s. I'm absolutely torn.

@ILoveAllRainbowsx Women exchanging opinion on discursive forum is not claws out or jealousy. Women can and should have debate and tolerate dissonant opinions. Women shouldn’t demean Other women by making tired tropes about claws or jealousy, it’s a way of immediately closing down other women by questioning the legitimacy and content of the posts
Phrases such as
Claws out
Jealousy
Or the other cracker bitchfest

And this fawning over, man has spoken is a bit pukey. Thanking him, Oh could hug him. Op plenty people have directly agreed with you, writing affirmative posts. Did you personally thank them too?

@YankeeDad thanks for mansplaining how mn works
You post was cheesy motivational speaker and man swings in to save damsel

ILoveAllRainbowsx nonsense.

I also remembered a few posts the OP has made recently about wishing she could have a bigger house and wishing she could afford childcare (not from snooping, just memory). And, most importantly, the post she very recently made where she talked about how frustrated and angry she was that she had been given a huge number of responsibilities and a £1000 pay rise. In that context, I thought it was obvious that she should take the higher-paying job, even if it meant a few sacrifices.

Since then, she's had a good talk with her CEO and most importantly gotten a written declaration of their intentions. Now, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, and she's still taking a massive risk by trusting this declaration (particularly when her trust has been broken recently). But, she knows the situation far better than we do, and it's her risk to take.

There are no claws and no jealousy. (As Heels said, claws is a particularly silly little piece of misogyny.) I wish the OP all the best and I hope this works out for her.

I'd take it without a doubt. An hours commute isn't that bad, and that's a huge improvement in salary.

Fressia123 · 06/12/2020 12:48

@nancydrawn you're 100% correct. In that regard I don't think it should be me who has to make all the sacrifices in the family.

Ye the £1k pay increase was a total slap in the face but have they explained things to me I would have had a different reaction.

With my new title I got a couple of interviews so I think my "new skillset" is more transferable within the local job market. I took that into consideration when declining this job offer.

@Fressia123

Success! I've spoken to my CEO and have a timeline, base salary (which reached my expectations) and commission on top. And I got it all in writing!!
Excellent news. Well done OP!!
Fressia123 · 09/12/2020 07:10

Thank you! I emailed the recruiter too and told her I really appreciated all of their time and that I had a brilliant recruiting experience.

I'm also grateful in an odd way because it gave me closure.
