AIBU to spend £40 on take away?

I fancy Chinese takeaway...

DH hates Chinese takeaway, prefers Indian, and so if we had takeaway we’d end up ordering from 2 places. But this means it would cost nearly £40 which seems excessive for takeaway? It would be closer to £30 if we both ordered from the same place with discounts/less delivery fee but then that means I’d have to have Indians not Chinese.

If you can afford it, do it.

We spent £30 a head on a 'posh' take away last night - you even have to warm done if it up yourself. It was delicious though so worth every penny!

MissDoLots · 28/11/2020 18:11

We do that for pizza here ! I love Papa John's and my DC love Domino's.

So we get both.

@BarbaraofSeville

^£18 for two adults and leftovers for lunch??

That must be 1-2 meat dishes with one side and some prawn crackers^

Er no, king prawn curry, massive pot of special chow mein, chips, fried rice, two huge pancake rolls and prawn crackers.

A main is £5-6 including rice or chips, sides are a couple of quid each and the prawn crackers are free if you spend over £15.

Wow that’s super cheap compared to where we are. But that would also only be one main course in our Chinese and the rest sides.

@Proudboomer

I order a home delivery most weekends. Last week it was Chinese so this week it is Indian. Chinese week comes to around £30 and Indian less at £20. Indian is always less as I only eat vegetarian when having Indian but Chinese I have ribs and other meat dishes.
Why will you eat meat from Chinese but not the Indian?!
starsparkle08 · 28/11/2020 18:14

It’s a lot of money to me - but if you can afford it go for it

80sColourfulChristmas · 28/11/2020 18:15

@LH1987

We generally spend 50 on a Chinese and have the leftovers for lunch (for two). Do it! 😀
Shock FIFTY BRITISH POUNDS?!?!?!
SunshineCake · 28/11/2020 18:16

Why would you have to have what your husband wants if you are only going to one place ?

MadisonAvenue · 28/11/2020 18:18

We had a takeaway from a local restaurant a few weeks ago, for the four of us (our sons are adults) it came to £58 and that was four starters and four mains. It was really lovely so worth every penny.

If we have Chinese for the four of us it’s usually just under £40 for five or six mains, a couple of containers of rice and garlic and chilli chips. They send a free bag of prawn crackers.

IntermittentParps · 28/11/2020 18:22

I'd just be worried about them arriving ages apart.

PawPawNoodle · 28/11/2020 18:22

@SimonJT that looks like a Genesis order to me

Daisy829 · 28/11/2020 18:23

In the past, we have been known to go to kfc for the chicken then McDonald’s for chips as we prefer their fries 😂
I’ve gone Chinese. Can’t wait. Wine poured & watching a bit of the crown before I walk round for it.

ShirleyPhallus · 28/11/2020 18:24

I prefer veggie dishes from the Indian too - all those potato / cauliflower / chickpea / paneer combos are much more delicious than anything meaty

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 28/11/2020 18:26

How expensive is your Chinese??? £20 for one meal is extortionate!

We're having honey bbq chicken, chicken curry, fried rice, chips, mini spring rolls & banana fritters delivered & it's only cost £23

Wish it would bloody hurry up cause I'm starving

SimonJT · 28/11/2020 18:26

Thats where we would usually go, genesis would be cheaper but its shut ☹️

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/11/2020 18:26

Our Chinese is usually £23-24. Two mains, prawn toast, rice and chips and delivery.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/11/2020 18:28

Shirley there's loads of meat, prawns and veg in the noodle dish, and it comes in a large container, it's definitely a main.

I agree about Indian vegetarian food being much nicer than the meat dishes.

Proudboomer · 28/11/2020 18:30

80sColourfulChristmas it is just what I prefer as there as so many Indian veg dishes that don’t need meat to taste great but with Chinese you need spare ribs and Peking duck.

cyclingmad · 28/11/2020 18:30

Being Indian i cannot do Indian take aways or Indian ready meals...too much oil, same spices used and like only 4 tiny pieces of meat. Bleurgh.

Chinese for me

Chinese was £17, min order of £15 plus £2 delivery. So that was crispy beef, rice, mini spring rolls, chips and prawn crackers. Only decent Chinese takeaway around here hence the price!

Indian was £23 so that was vindaloo, pilau rice, naan, pickles. £3 delivery. This was from a local restaurant, which we love but we’ll be tier 3 next week so still not able to open.

We had to pay the delivery as awaiting covid results.

@SunshineCake I wouldn’t have to have what my husband wanted, there’s plenty of Indian curries I like but if we were only going to one it’d be Indian as he doesn’t like Chinese food at all.

Do as you wish as long as you can afford it

burnoutbabe · 28/11/2020 18:35

We're paying £35 for Deliveroo every few days to support local restaurants, for 2 of us.
You may as well get what you want!

earthyfire · 28/11/2020 18:36

I don't see the problem, we spend about that, but one of us usually collects instead because it is quicker.

Chamonixshoopshoop · 28/11/2020 18:37

Life is a bit shit right now, if you can afford it, enjoy it! There's not much else to enjoy!

Sorrynotsorry22 · 28/11/2020 18:45

Yes, might be excessive for 1 unless it's portion out for a few days .

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 28/11/2020 18:46

@Nobeautysleep fair enough - enjoy... your DH's food sounds fab but DD vetoed Indian tonight.

As for delivery charges we have an amazing Indian across the road I can see it from my kitchen window & I'm sure the guy walks across with it & I pay £3 delivery so I can order for later, have a bath & be in pjs with wine before it arrives Blush
