AIBU to spend £40 on take away?

I fancy Chinese takeaway...

DH hates Chinese takeaway, prefers Indian, and so if we had takeaway we’d end up ordering from 2 places. But this means it would cost nearly £40 which seems excessive for takeaway? It would be closer to £30 if we both ordered from the same place with discounts/less delivery fee but then that means I’d have to have Indians not Chinese.

But if DH won't ever have Chinese then YANBU to order from 2 places if you can afford it, otherwise you wouldn't ever have the choice you wanted.

@bobbikato

Can i be the first to say " You can cook all the food yourself for £2.50 and its better without the MSG " .
NO!

The MSG is the best bit!

If you can afford it and want it then do it.

I'm spending £50 on takeaway just for myself tonight, that does include alcohol though. It's a local restaurant that I want to support as unfortunately we're tier 3. So pricier than the usual takeaways.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 28/11/2020 17:23

We've just eaten an Indian.

And now I want a Chinese even thought I'm stuffed to the gills

AldiAisleofCrap · 28/11/2020 17:23

Crispy shredded beef in chilli sauce 😋 is en route your takeaway is expensive. That’s £6.70 with fried rice locally and £1 delivery.

We generally spend 50 on a Chinese and have the leftovers for lunch (for two). Do it! 😀

TimetohittheroadJack · 28/11/2020 17:25

**One yukatan street bowl
One patacones bowl
Avocado taco
Jackfruit taco
Aubergine fritters
Kimchi fries
Three acai bowls

It would have been more but I have a £15 giftcard**

I get breast of chicken curry, chopped, fried rice, chips and a portion of prawn crackers. I’m feeling distinctly non posh as I don’t even know what half that stuff is Blush

Leftovers?

I think you are doing well ordering takeaway for 2 people for £40 when 1 involves a Chinese. Even harder if it's a Cantonese as well, the starters are amazing when done well.

I want food now, do it.

Smallsteps88 · 28/11/2020 17:29

Shock

That doesn’t seem like a lot of food for £75!

SuperbGorgonzola · 28/11/2020 17:29

DH and I are the opposite way round and I always end up getting Chinese rather than Indian.

Absolutely do it- I am jealous! Grin

LauraAshleySofa · 28/11/2020 17:29

Think outside the box and order Thai. Everyone's a winner.

Blueuggboots · 28/11/2020 17:30

Do it! Ohhh, I want crispy beef now....
We live in the middle of nowhere and Uber eats, Deliveroo etc don't deliver. That, and no broadband are the only two drawbacks....

sqirrelfriends · 28/11/2020 17:30

It doesn't seem massively excessive to me. takeaways here are really expensive though and we don't often spend less than £60 for three of us.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/11/2020 17:33

We’ve just ordered a Chinese.
Set meal B for 2
Plus an extra Special Fried Rice.
It feeds me, DP and DD 16.

It comes with
10 chicken balls
A standard portion of beef/mushroom
A standard portion of Kung po chicken
A standard special fried rice

It’s two much for 2, but not quite enough for 3 (hence ordering extra rice)
All that (plus the extra rice) for £20.

choirmumoftwo · 28/11/2020 17:33

Just ordered Indian for 2 at £31 including delivery. It is however my birthday so a bit of a treat! And a lovely Prosecco from DSis to enjoy with it.

For people saying it’s usually a £7 dish, it is, there’s a £15 min spend so salt and pepper chips and mini spring rolls are also on their way.
Hubby has a vindaloo, rice and naan from a restaurant rather than a regular takeaway.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 28/11/2020 17:34

or if one restaurant only DH has Chinese.
Are there options that you both like - Mexican/Vietnamese

I never bother with takeaways - I'd rather wait til next week when restaurants are open.
Currently demolishing some rather lovely Itsu Hoisin Duck Bao Buns from Tesco.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/11/2020 17:34
  • too much not two much 😊

I had no idea what those dishes are either so I hold my hands up to googling.. Looks yummy and vegetarian/vegan.
RosesAndHellebores · 28/11/2020 17:35

DH and I would compromise on what we both liked to save the delivery charges. But I don't begrudge others their pleasures.

Enjoy!

Marmite27 · 28/11/2020 17:37

Were poor so I had to make ours (not really, but that’s what I tell the kids Grin).

Honey garlic chicken, teriyaki veg and ‘unfried’ rice. Bloody lovely even if the kitchen looks like a bombs hit it Hmm

I usually do. This is my first Chinese of the year.
