Oh, this year is either very good...or I'm very drunk.

Confused
VodselForDinner · 27/11/2020 23:20

I had to turn it off. Far too annoying and I’m far too sober for it.

Lalaloveyou2020 · 27/11/2020 23:21

Oh no, you missed Tubs saying bollocks!

OP posts:
Baldrickneepheid · 27/11/2020 23:24

I hate it so much but my Irish family love it 😭😭🤣🤣

VodselForDinner · 27/11/2020 23:25

@Lalaloveyou2020

Oh no, you missed Tubs saying bollocks!
Was it not “fuck”? I’m half following along on Twitter.
switswoo81 · 27/11/2020 23:26

Oh I think it's lovely tonight.. hard for tubs to present a show like that without a live audience.
The kids around the world got me for personal reasons.
My 5 yr old is panned out beside me so sober!

fandigo · 27/11/2020 23:27

I think Tubs is doing great but feck all toys!

DramaAlpaca · 27/11/2020 23:28

For those who don't know, it's an annual event on RTE, Ireland's state broadcaster, featuring the must have toys of the year. It's an Irish institution and has been going for years.

It's tedious drivel, but kids adore it and are allowed to stay up late to watch.

I'm an English immigrant to Ireland and I've never got into it. I used to get Irish DH to watch it with the DC when they were small, while I chilled with a glass of Wine Grin

switswoo81 · 27/11/2020 23:31

Wouldn't call it tedious drivel myself. Its quite a special ritual in most houses.

fightingirish · 27/11/2020 23:33

Ah it's making me awful homesick, I just wanna go home and see my mammy, home is only over the water, but it seems so far away tonight!

whysorude · 27/11/2020 23:34

Missed the first 15 mins as forget to was on. Have rest taped to watch tomorrow.
Love the Lats Late Toy Show. Makes me feel little again. 🤩

Ardagusdubh · 27/11/2020 23:38

Oh, I love it ❤️ I've been a weepy mess. Childhood magic relived 🌟

Ardagusdubh · 27/11/2020 23:39

Fairly sure he said fuck! Laughed and laughed at his shitting himself face 🤣

Merename · 27/11/2020 23:40

What age do kids tend to love it? DH Irish family have been WhatsApping all day and excited about it, we showed (Scottish born) DD a bit of an old one off YouTube to get her into the culture but she declared it boring. The family are betrayed! Shock She’s almost 5 so I just think a bit too young for it, is that it?

Lalaloveyou2020 · 27/11/2020 23:40

Oh Adam is now the highlight of the show! It is tedious drivel really, but if you watched it as a child there's a hint of nostalgia to it (topped up with wine) that makes it worth watching. But Adam being reunited with the porter...I'm bawling!

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 27/11/2020 23:40

Oh I realise it's a 'special ritual' @switswoo81, that's actually a really lovely way to describe it. I'm sorry I was rude about it, it's just something I've never quite 'got' despite living here for so long.

Shayisgreat · 27/11/2020 23:41

I'm so homesick watching this!

He definitely said bollocks.

gabsdot45 · 27/11/2020 23:41

I'm watching and I've been in tears throughout.
I'm finding it very emotional.
(I'm in Ireland)

Lalaloveyou2020 · 27/11/2020 23:42

@Merename it's more that it's an event in Ireland. It's all about staying up late when you should be in bed. Everyone watching together. Sweets.

The actual show is a bit cheesy but the watching of it is a ritual! I think kids in school kind of hype each other up for it!

OP posts:
SionnachRua · 27/11/2020 23:42

Tedious drivel my arse. It's an institution is what it is. Like the queens Christmas speech for Brits, only this one is entertaining Grin

I tuned in for a bit but all the Covid this, that and the other made me quickly switch off again! One night free of it all is all I wanted. Though I did catch Tubs doing that very questionable competition with the white powder...

SionnachRua · 27/11/2020 23:43

Tbf though I think it's the kind of thing that unless you grew up on it, it won't hit home in quite the same way.

switswoo81 · 27/11/2020 23:45

Ah I know @DramaAlpaca! It's a weird one cos objectively it's not amazing TV but it signifies the start of the run up to Christmas here.
Am just a bit emotional tonight. Lots of really amazing children with huge obstacles in their lives on it tonight.

HardlyEver · 27/11/2020 23:45

It’s our first since returning to live in Ireland in late 2019 with our eight year old. The Oompa Loompas are freaking me out a bit.

Lalaloveyou2020 · 27/11/2020 23:45

@SionnachRua there's memes already all over twitter about the sneachta! Ah. It's very Irish, I'm friends with a few mams who are not Irish and are so bewildered but have to watch as the kiddos insist because it's so hyped up in school.

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 27/11/2020 23:46

I prefer the Queen's speech Blush. I'm the only one in my house who has any interest in it and I get the piss taken out of me mercilessly by Irish DH and the DC who've grown up in Ireland.
