Oh, this year is either very good...or I'm very drunk.

Oh no @DramaAlpaca stay!! We know it's naff but we love it. A toy show thread is no place for bitching...apart from about the Billie Barrie kids, who if you are an 80s child you hated intensly (because you were jealous as feck).

It’s fab and I’m sober. The family WhatsApp lit up when tubs cursed🤣🤣

Ardagusdubh · 27/11/2020 23:49

kittykat35 · 27/11/2020 23:50

Nice little article about it in The Guardian today

Yes its a big night in our house. Great excitement and my oldest daughter makes sure she's home with her little sister gets into her Christmas pjs and cuddles up with her and piles of sweets on the sofa.

It marks the official start of Christmas in our house.

I love it.

Lalaloveyou2020 · 27/11/2020 23:55

Hmm. I'm now miffed on Adam's behalf , Saoirse got a holiday to florida!

SionnachRua · 27/11/2020 23:56

@DramaAlpaca

I prefer the Queen's speech Blush. I'm the only one in my house who has any interest in it and I get the piss taken out of me mercilessly by Irish DH and the DC who've grown up in Ireland.
Ah I'm only teasing Smile To each their own, every country has a weird national institution or two. Though I will still be mystified by the Christmas speech and my British mils love for it myself (she's a fierce republican the other 364 days of the year)!
SionnachRua · 27/11/2020 23:57

Also as a teacher I will 100% hold my hands up and say I rile them up for the Toy Show. We count down the 'sleeps' and all!

CalmdownJanet · 27/11/2020 23:58

Michaels reaction to Dermot and Adams reaction to John - fantastic! Loving this year's show but I agree there are very few toys compared to most years

Ardagusdubh · 28/11/2020 00:00

@Lalaloveyou2020 totally agree! Adam was delighted but deserved a little something more. What a wee dote Star

switswoo81 · 28/11/2020 00:00

Me too @SionnachRua (have junior infant s) .. we normally have pj day for the toy show but it was too bloody cold to have it this year with all the feckin windows open!

Lalaloveyou2020 · 28/11/2020 00:02

Oh Noah. This is going to be played at your 21st birthday party.

OP posts:
Maybe83 · 28/11/2020 00:02

@SionnachRua my little girl was learning about the toy show history today for "History" Smile.

She couldn't remember the name of the really old man otherwise known as Gary Byrne Grin

Maybe83 · 28/11/2020 00:03

Or Gay Byrne rather!

Lalaloveyou2020 · 28/11/2020 00:05

5 million!!

OP posts:
Merename · 28/11/2020 00:08
@Merename it's more that it's an event in Ireland. It's all about staying up late when you should be in bed. Everyone watching together. Sweets.

The actual show is a bit cheesy but the watching of it is a ritual! I think kids in school kind of hype each other up for it!
Ah yes I mind watching it one time we were over and everyone was very excited. That’ll be what we need to do then, wait til we can travel again and have kids participate in the full late nights sweets experience and I’m sure they will get it then!

Iloveknockknockjokes · 28/11/2020 00:09

I thought it was v good. Tubs so funny

Lalaloveyou2020 · 28/11/2020 00:10

Tubs a bit tipsy at the end, no?

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 28/11/2020 00:14

Haha @SionnachRua my Irish MIL adored the Queen (they were the same age) despite being fiercely republican.

I've set the Toy Show to record when it's repeated on Monday night. DH came in talking about it and has convinced me it's worth a watch this year.

Barmbraic · 28/11/2020 00:15

I loved it 💗 so many gorgeous moments this year. How did I miss Tubs cursing though???

HardlyEver · 28/11/2020 00:20

@Lalaloveyou2020

Oh no *@DramaAlpaca* stay!! We know it's naff but we love it. A toy show thread is no place for bitching...apart from about the Billie Barrie kids, who if you are an 80s child you hated intensly (because you were jealous as feck).
We did, we hated them individually and collectively. For their ability to sing and dance while smiling manically.

I bet Dermot Kennedy was registering that his hit was being sung rather well by someone young and promising. And with really nice hair.

CherryValanc · 28/11/2020 00:22

I think it started awkward - Tubs shudder missing the audience, but so many of the children on where absolutely stars. They totally made it for me and I'm usually the "tedious drivel" camp.
