Doing this to a child is wrong

BBC report : His said his 14-year-old daughter had not left her bedroom for four days, with meals being left outside her door, until the family learned the result was void on Thursday

This is so wrong to do to a child

Lamb shanks and jackets here

I think this is my winner right here!

Because she’s like a dog with a bone who is determined to prove that sensible teenagers who have been brought up to understand and accept that staying in your room when you have a contagious illness is just what you do...

I am like a dog with a bone, so am obliged (again) to point out that I am not talking about teenagers who accept it or volunteer for it or desire it. They are not having their liberty taken away. I am talking about those who do not accept it.

*Because she’s like a dog with a bone who is determined to prove that sensible teenagers who have been brought up to understand and accept that staying in your room when you have a contagious illness is just what you do are poor in fact abused and neglected children with hideous parents

Which is actually insulting to any of us who had properly abusive and neglectful parents*

Yes you're right and I shouldn't really respond and encourage her really. I remember the same from the mask thread. In reality my primary age dc and all their friends happily wear them and like comparing designs. Like you say, incredibly insulting to those experiencing abuse.

And once you have a moment of experience of teenagers you’ll realise how much bollocks you spouted because you can’t make them stay in their room

Not that you’ll have that problem with your 100% compliant child

And again: I am not (and was not) talking about children happily wearing masks or being confined. I am talking about the abusive parents who believe they have a right to enforce those things against the will of their children.

Oof no, Mash or roasties with lamb shanks, always.

But I though young kids should do things without question because their parents say so?
SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/11/2020 13:19

Lamb shanks are lovely. Big fan of almb. Now you made me think if it😂 I am putting it on a planner for the week after. Slow cooked lamb leg. Yeah. I keep the bone from it for broth. Our butcher kindly cuts it in half for me

Exactly.

It’s actually hilarious that someone like me, who was starved and beaten as a child, is apparently a bad parent for expecting my children to be sensible, decent people with consideration for others, in particular their ECV sister.

That said I must have done something wrong as my teen didn’t combust in two weeks isolation and my 10yo has been in his room with D&V since Thursday and he’s not crying about exercise space or lack of liberty. In fact 10yo (and me as I’m in my room) seems to be enjoying the room service and unlimited tv time as much as the teen now he’s feeling well enough to text or shout for room service 🤔

midnightstar66 · 29/11/2020 13:20

But where are all these accounts of teenagers locked in their rooms crying and banging on the doors to be released, or 5 year olds having masks held to their face? - oh wait there aren't any as you've made it up in your head!

flaviaritt · 29/11/2020 13:21

Clearly some of you think you can, because you think it’s fine to do so. I won’t be confining my child to her room for days, so it’s unlikely to come up.

flaviaritt · 29/11/2020 13:21

It’s a simple hypothetical discussion about right and wrong. Is it a little abstract for you? Sorry.

Unless that enforcement is a fastened coat?

You might consider that what happened to you as a child (which was disgusting) is affecting your view on what is okay now.

ILoveYou3000 · 29/11/2020 13:23

Anyone got any ideas where my potato peeler is hiding?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 29/11/2020 13:23

Candlelit vigil for thread who will be dying soon.

flaviaritt · 29/11/2020 13:23

Yes. That is for the child’s welfare and doesn’t harm them in any way.
