Doing this to a child is wrong

BBC report : His said his 14-year-old daughter had not left her bedroom for four days, with meals being left outside her door, until the family learned the result was void on Thursday

This is so wrong to do to a child

OP posts:

just over 100 posts to go. I'm meant to be getting a stew on, but I'm going to have to stick around a bit longer to see how it ends.

If I miss it cos my children want feeding I'll be locking them all in their rooms until further notice!

wellthatsunusual · 29/11/2020 12:08

Children in ICU are constantly monitored, they aren't closed in an empty room.

Newborns absolutely do need human interaction. Maybe the advice has changed since mine were babies but at that stage we were being told they should be with us more or less constantly (obviously within reason) to minimise the risk of SIDS.

There has been a certain thematic consistency.

Of you just reading what you want to see, yep I'd agree.

OP hasn't posted in 24 hours, I'm thinking they're probably sorry they started this nonsense in the first place.

I'm supposed to be studying but it's stats so I can use this to put it off.

I didn’t suggest isolating the baby at all. New parents are obviously going to spend nearly all their time in the room with the baby. The point is that, if the baby is vulnerable, the baby can be protected in a single room without the same impact on its welfare as when you lock up a teenager. Obviously.

Your repetitive reading-fails are the last things I have wanted to see.

No, this is correct.

Indeed. We haven’t even touched on forced vaccination and have barely scraped the surface of the masks argument. I’m up for all of these things.

It's a knotty one alright. I was going to duct tape a mask on DS's face and drag him to the nearest experimental military testing facility, but to do that I'd have to lever off the boards I've nailed across his bedroom door.

I didn't force him in there though. I told him there was a lovely surprise inside and he ran right in.

Yep it's me that's failing to read things properly.

But serious question: what if your child refuses the vaccine?

I hope you left him an adequate supply of bread and water, and a bucket to use.

flaviaritt · 29/11/2020 12:17

No, this is correct.

It’s not correct. Babies need very regular interaction, yes, of course, and a safe environment, but no, you don’t have to be with them all the time.

It’s my opinion that keeping the teenager away from the baby is fine. But you need to find a way to do that that doesn’t trample all over your teenager’s legal rights.

ILoveYou3000 · 29/11/2020 12:23

I can actually answer this. My eldest has said she won't be having it until she knows more about it. She's 17, and I fully respect her decision, as I know she's bright, switched on and has given very good reasons why she'd prefer to wait. She also will very likely be an adult by the time she's reached eligibility.

Okay. So why do you respect some of your child’s legal and human rights but not others?

Govt. guidelines don't say anything about bread, water or buckets. Plus all those things are non-essential so we don't tend to have them in the house.
