Doing this to a child is wrong

BBC report : His said his 14-year-old daughter had not left her bedroom for four days, with meals being left outside her door, until the family learned the result was void on Thursday

This is so wrong to do to a child

I suspect because of limited experience.

I didn’t ask why I am. I asked in what way I am. What makes you believe I am infantilising teenagers?

Timshortforthalia · 28/11/2020 19:05

I'm currently getting ads for a home brand called nkuku. It's all browns and beiges and looks like it would match a grubby Laura ashley rug.

CorvusPurpureus · 28/11/2020 19:06

To be fair, flaviaritt, I suspect all of this is scaring the absolute shit out of you, & you're floundering like hell.

I'm not trying to be mean, honestly.

Alright, Freud. Hmm

Because you are really quite upset about stuff like mask wearing, isolating if you have symptoms, & so on.

My 14yo dd would ah, disagree with you robustly on all counts.

I get the vibe that it's all just freaking you the fuck out, tbh.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/11/2020 19:10

@CorvusPurpureus any bedding recommendation? You seem generally knowledgeable so might know good sheets😁

SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/11/2020 19:11

@Timshortforthalia thought about googling it but I am not fan of brown and don't want the ads😂

flaviaritt · 28/11/2020 19:11

That has nothing to do with infantilising anyone. I value liberty. Mine, theirs, yours.

And of course it freaks me the fuck out that there are people who are so bedwettingly frightened of coronavirus that they are happy to mask babies and imprison teenagers.

Would love to, but I'm in the ME. All our good stuff gets exported to Harrods. Big nylon fleecy blankets & I've definitely got 'em!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/11/2020 19:15

Oh my god I have the ME blankets. 😂 In brown and another brown.
Only brown things I own.

Imissmoominmama · 28/11/2020 19:15

Lots of teenagers have en suites and bedrooms with TVs, computers etc.

But I'm not. I'm a teacher & parent of 3 teenagers, & confidently expect to catch it.

I'd just rather not pass it on if I can help it - 2 dead colleagues focuses the mind a bit.

We're all going to die of something. I'm just not a big fan of standing in a bucket of water wearing copper armour on a hill top during a thunderstorm if I can avoid it.

flaviaritt · 28/11/2020 19:16

Having a toilet and a TV doesn’t mean you’re not a prisoner.

flaviaritt · 28/11/2020 19:18

CorvusPurpureus

I’m not a fan of those things either. I wear my mask. My small child doesn’t. I wear mine in the supermarket but not out on a dog walk. Because I am able to maintain a sense of proportion and, as you say, accept that we will all die of something. I see no need to abuse kids to try to overturn that reality.

CorvusPurpureus · 28/11/2020 19:20

& I would be saying exactly the same about noro or typhoid or swine flu. Might kill you, most likely won't, but definitely not fun times & it's responsible behaviour not to spread it if you can take reasonable & not particularly onerous precautions.

Timshortforthalia · 28/11/2020 19:22

I love brown.

I frequently Google beige inspo

Timshortforthalia · 28/11/2020 19:25

@CorvusPurpureus do you teach in ME?

whenever I TES jobs, the jobs that most match my skill set are always in ME but I can never imagine myself there. One of my old uni friends now teaches out there and despite initial reservations seems v happy.

How does this correlate with your attitude in the coat thread that

They need to learn to do as they are told.

There’s nothing wrong with it, but I don’t think there is anything wrong with “because I said so” either.

She has to do as I say because I am the adult and have better judgement about what is safe and healthy and kind. As she gets older, my explanations will become more lengthy and she will have more leeway. For the moment, she does as she is told because I said so.

Well anything is better than... Magnolia😱
CorvusPurpureus · 28/11/2020 19:27

I've had two out of my three have to isolate due to symptoms, pending test.

It would be fair to say neither of them saw it as a hardship, although I teach at their school, had to isolate too & feel mildly guilty about the cover burden.

We all sat happily in our rooms, doing lessons on line & eating a disgusting amount of takeaway as obviously I couldn't cook.

Rather not repeat the experience, but it was hardly Cruel & Unusual Punishment, to be fair.

Yes, & it's brilliant. Not wanting to derail but pm me & I'll be delighted to point you at our September vacancies Wink

No one on here has said we should imprison teenagers. You know this is the case. You have;t yet fun =d anyone who actually believes that teens should be forced to stay in their room and not allowed out against their will.

No one has agreed to putting masks on babies. On the UK it is over 11s. In some countries it is over 6s. On a few it is over 2s but only in certain places, all places quite easily avoided. No one on any thread I have ever read - which to be fair over the last few weeks have been many due to being bed bound and then convalescing at home - has ever said a mask for a baby is appropriate.

Did CV19 scare me? TBH, yes. As someone who is clinically vulnerable but had to go to work with no social distancing, no masks, no protection then yes it was a concern to me. I was proved right. Sadly working with 270 children at close quarters every week it was inevitable - I caught covid in school. As already said, I was hospitalised with it. I was pretty ill, though still only classed as having moderate covid. I was suddenly at risk of heart attack or stroke. Although I am CV I have no health condition where I would be expected to die at 47, yet covid had be rushed to a and e under that level fo concern. Fortunately I am fine and I am coming through the other side, albeit slowly and with life long complications and medication.

bedwettingly frightened

Do you realise how offensive this can sound when aimed at posters where you have no idea of their health or what covid can actually mean for some people?! I suspect you do but just don't care.

Aragog · 28/11/2020 19:33

and, as you say, accept that we will all die of something.

Well that's alright then.
Maybe I was worried for no reason.
Hey, if it was my turn to go then yes - heart attack at 47y , no problem.
After all we all have to die of something don't we?!?!

flaviaritt · 28/11/2020 19:34

Because small children don’t have or need liberty. They just need you to keep them safe and not make them suffer. The only reasonable basis for “because I said so” is that it keeps small people safe when they are too young to have developed their own judgement.

flaviaritt · 28/11/2020 19:35

Well, yes, we do. We don’t get to do anything we like to avoid that. Sorry.
