A visor is not a face covering

Just that, AIBU?

OP posts:

It covers the face

Which is what you said

But it does not filter the breath or trap water droplets.

BananaPop2020 · 25/11/2020 01:22

Looking forward to the day we can throw face masks, face coverings, visors and all of the rest of it in the bin.

It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing. If someone is wearing a visor and no face mask, I assume that they cannot wear a face mask "for reasons", and are trying the best they can.

In this shitty, shitty world we now live in, I appreciate the gesture of someone just trying. Because not everyone does.

Notjustanymum · 25/11/2020 05:02

But it is a face covering, just not an adequate one for preventing respiratory particle transfer. A visor is ancillary to a mask, and can help prevent you unintentionally touching your eyes and transferring the virus via your hands.

PhilCornwall1 · 25/11/2020 05:47

Yes, it is a face covering, as it covers your face.

As to whether a visor is effective or not, no idea at all.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 25/11/2020 05:53

Never tried communicating with a lip-reading deaf person whilst wearing a mask have you? I'll give you a clue.....you can't.

Sitt · 25/11/2020 06:11

I think that people are doing their best. I know that’s rarely enough in a world of “people must live up to my standards of covid perfection or they are selfish fuckers”. It’s interesting that a few months ago anyone who said on here that they were exempt from wearing a mask was asked whether they could wear a visor instead, and now there is a “selfish fucker” comment about even that

ChasingRainbows19 · 25/11/2020 06:25

I agree op, we use them
In work to protect ourselves for our eyes, in conjunction with masks. I see lots of elderly people with them on and they aren’t great but I guess it’s something. Masks aren’t easy to tolerate for some.

Don’t get me started in the tiny visors/ plastic masks that just go over mouth a nose tho!

MadinMarch · 25/11/2020 06:29

This Swiss study found visors are ineffective when used by itself, and does not protect the wearer or others from Covid.
So, it's not better than nothing as some posters are saying, it is essentially nothing.

RaspberryCoulis · 25/11/2020 06:29

No it's not.

But it is a very good arsehole-deterrent measure for people who can't wear cloth or surgical masks and don't want to have to deal with self-appointed Covid monitors like the OP.

midnightstar66 · 25/11/2020 06:37

Here in Scotland they are not acceptable on their own where a face covering is required. If a visor is used it must be in be in addition to a mask.

WhoopsSomethingWentWrong · 25/11/2020 06:40

Good lord, I thought we’d exhausted all these discussions back in July.
If you advance search OP you can find the hundreds of other posts discussing this exact issue.

You could say the same about many posts on MN covid related and otherwise. If OP wants to post her own discussion she can. You don't have to read, nor do you have to comment if you find it boring or repetitive.

Terriorer · 25/11/2020 06:44

@BumbleFlump

Totally agree, my local sainsbos is full of selfish fuckers wearing these... they might offer some personal protection to themselves but nothing for everyone else. Might be appropriate for staff who have to wear them all day and those who are asthmatic but only as a last resort really.
So those who have a legitimate exemption to wearing a mask, but who decide to wear a visor because they can tolerate that, are selfish fuckers?

Are you always so discriminatory?

RednaxelasLunch · 25/11/2020 06:44

Someone who can't wear a mask for whatever reason - would you rather they wore a visor, or nothing?

Wishing14 · 25/11/2020 06:44

I’ve been suffering from hg pregnancy and barely able to make it out the house, but when I do a mask is honestly torture, makes me want to pass out and vomit at the same time. So I wear a visor. It might be ‘fine’ for you to wear a mask but you don’t know how it feels for other people or why. In this situation I think people need to focus on themselves and not other people.

Terriorer · 25/11/2020 06:46

@Yeahnahmum

Yanbu Way too many people are exempt from wearing a mask. They should stay home and not go out wearing a visor thinking all is ok now. Very selfish
I don’t even know where to start with this discriminatory statement.
RaspberryCoulis · 25/11/2020 06:47

Oh and we established a couple of weeks ago that people who say "sainsbos" should be taken out and shot.

It'll only get worse now everyone has been "let out on good behaviour" for Christmas.

Have the nerve to say you are off to see family and you'll be accused of murdering the whole country.

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 25/11/2020 06:49

I really appreciate people wearing visors.

It's better than wearing one of those lanyards.
It's an effort made.

I saw an elderly lady in the supermarket, looked well into her 80's clearly had breathing issues and mobility issues.
She was very breathless and struggling - I've no doubt that's why she wasn't wearing a mask. But she was wearing a visor for what it was worth.

Where did I say I found your comment dull or offensive? You joined the conversation so expect to have your comment responded to as is the nature of a forum. However it's odd to respond if you have no interest in the topic and nothing to contribute in the first place.

I don’t care if you reply to my comment or not, so I’m really not sure of my point. You told me not to reply to the OP if I found it boring or repetitive, and that she is free to post what she wants. Yes she is... as am I. So just as you think it’s weird that I would reply to the OP, I think it’s weird that you replied to me telling me not to. So I guess we’re even.
midnightstar66 · 25/11/2020 06:53

I'm quite happy for people who cannot wear a mask to wear nothing. Mask wearing is very highly followed in my area and few people in shops don't have one so I'd always assume them to be exempt.
