Posting on aibu for traffic.

I was out with my children & DH when I fell quite badly on my knee, when I did it iv never felt so much pain in my life (and iv pushed two babies out naturally), I felt like I was going to pass out & be sick.

Luckily I was just across the road from my house so I managed to hobble home iv not been out of bed since, my knee is SO sore, it's really swollen & red. No bruising just yet. I'm also 15weeks pregnant.

I literally can't get to the toilet without help.

Do I go to a&e or just wait it out and see how it is in the morning? Obviously apprehensive about going to the hospital's

You need to be seen by a doctor now. I would go.

MatildaTheCat · 24/11/2020 18:00

You’ll probably need to get it checked. Do you have a minor injuries unit nearby?

Haggisfish · 24/11/2020 18:00

A and e-before it gets busy!

MrsL2016 · 24/11/2020 18:00

Do you have a minor injuries unit? Ours is 24 hour and can x-ray and bypass a+e to get you booked into the fracture clinic. Or you could ring 111 and see what they say.

Greysparkles · 24/11/2020 18:01

You need to go have it looked at if it's as bad as you describe.
Meanwhile, take ibuprofen, ice & elevate for the swelling

DawnFawn · 24/11/2020 18:02

Rest, ice and compression. Then see how you are in the morning. If you still can't weight bear, I would get it checked out.

joell75 · 24/11/2020 18:02

It'll likely feel worse in the morning! Yup, off you go.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 24/11/2020 18:02

Ouch, hope you get seen and sorted op. Our minor injuries are doing it by appointment, ring 111 and they'll help sign post or book for you.

gretagreengrapes · 24/11/2020 18:03

Definitely go to A&E or minor injuries if you can't walk and it's super swollen. A&E is running as usual just socially distanced in the waiting room and mask wearing. I wouldn't faff about with 111 as an OOH GP appt isn't going to be helpful.
Take paracetamol and get ice / frozen peas on it too!

McRibpain · 24/11/2020 18:04

I'd go.

Livingmybestlifenow · 24/11/2020 18:09

100% You need an X-ray to clear fractures. Also ice, compression and elevation for at least 3 days, paracetamol if you need it, try not to take any NSAIDs (ibruprofen, naproxen, diclofenac etc.) Hopefully they’ll also give you crutches so you can be non weight bearing without being stuck on your bum all day as that’ll do you no favours. Hope all goes well!

doctorhamster · 24/11/2020 18:10

Definitely go to a&e Flowers

RolandSchitt · 24/11/2020 18:10

You should have it looked at, whether that's at minor injuries (would be my first port of call) or A&E.

pinkbalconyrailing · 24/11/2020 18:12

a&e
you could have broken something.
a bandage or splint will make a great difference for the pain.

good luck!

BibbityBabbityBoo · 24/11/2020 18:14

Ring your midwife, ring 111.

ChikiTIKI · 24/11/2020 18:23

Don't take ibuprofen when pregnant...

Go to a&e

TheHobbitMum · 24/11/2020 18:23

Definitely go and I'd ring your midwife too as you've had a nasty fall Flowers

RandomMess · 24/11/2020 18:24

As you're pregnant a walk in centre can't treat you so it's A&E!

Absolutely go just in case.

Christmasfairy2020 · 24/11/2020 18:24

Go a and e. My mother was fobbed of after her fall she is 58 and fell on knee..she had an xray and was told severe osteo. Can barely walk etc. Anyways 5 month later she went to see oethopods who say infact she had a fractured patella !!!! And is waiting an mri. She hasnt been treated for a break and is so disabled now by this hopefully it is fixable. But go a and e!!

oakleaffy · 24/11/2020 18:24

Knee injuries are AGONY.
I had a riding accident where a horse swerved a jump, mashing my knee against a tree.. I carried on riding out of bravado, was helped off by two people and pain drove me to casualty .
No breaks but an infection!
I’d left it days thinking it would heal itself.
Never knew pain like it.
They bandaged it from crotch to ankle!
Plus crutches
Good luck.
😣 Ouch!

safariboot · 24/11/2020 18:32

If you can travel (presumably with DH's help), A&E or minor injuries. Clue's in the name, you've had an accident causing injury after all! Of course plan for a wait, yours isn't an urgent case.

If you can't travel, call 111 and explain that. Make it clear that you can't walk unaided and someone needs to attend you.

MummmyDayCareNameChangeAGAIN · 24/11/2020 18:33

Is it stiff because you've been resting? This might be the reason you can't go to the toilet without help.

I had a fall at work recently. Onto my knee on concrete floor. It hurt so much, I cried, felt like I was going to pass out and throw up. I get like that when I've hurt myself though. It was sore for a couple of days and then fine. I wouldn't go to A&E personally.

PotteringAlong · 24/11/2020 18:33

Go! This one of those occasions when it’s exactly why A&E is there!

Merryoldgoat · 24/11/2020 18:40

A&E 100%

baremineral · 24/11/2020 18:42

I would definitely go, OP. Agree with PP in that this is a reason why A&E is there. Hope all is ok!
