Posting on aibu for traffic.

I was out with my children & DH when I fell quite badly on my knee, when I did it iv never felt so much pain in my life (and iv pushed two babies out naturally), I felt like I was going to pass out & be sick.

Luckily I was just across the road from my house so I managed to hobble home iv not been out of bed since, my knee is SO sore, it's really swollen & red. No bruising just yet. I'm also 15weeks pregnant.

I literally can't get to the toilet without help.

Do I go to a&e or just wait it out and see how it is in the morning? Obviously apprehensive about going to the hospital's

A&e op, Dr's will send you there for an x-ray and nowhere else will have you because your pregnant.

mummymayhem18 · 24/11/2020 18:52

Hope you get sorted. Sounds very painful. X

Elieza · 24/11/2020 18:55

Is phone 111 and see why they say. Rather than just turn up. In covid times things can be different. Good luck.

Sexnotgender · 24/11/2020 18:56

I would go, if you can’t weight bear you really should.

jess3817 · 24/11/2020 18:57

Definitely a trip to A and E.

Spaghettibetty345 · 24/11/2020 18:57

You need to go to a&e now

HarrietPotterska · 24/11/2020 18:58

Non-question: get thee to X-ray

CapGunAmmo · 24/11/2020 19:00

If ever there was a case for a trip to A&E this is it. Sounds horrible. I hope you are soon seen.

Imapotato · 24/11/2020 19:01

I’d go to A&E it needs an X-ray to make sure you haven’t fractured. Also a hard fall when pregnant should really be checked out. Hopefully A&E won’t be too busy.

Bowerbird5 · 24/11/2020 19:04

I would say phone 111 as they may be able to get you through quicker. They sent an ambulance to me( was expecting a paramedic in a car) and I was carted off to hospital with sky high blood pressure. The good news was I bypassed the triage wait the bad news was they kept me! Overnight😳
I would go because knee injuries can be nasty but also because you are pregnant. Hope all is well but it is important you are seen.

randomsabreuse · 24/11/2020 19:06

A&E. You're more vulnerable to ligament damage when pregnant plus more vulnerable to clots through being immobile...

Scrouge · 24/11/2020 19:08

@DawnFawn

Rest, ice and compression. Then see how you are in the morning. If you still can't weight bear, I would get it checked out.
Missing the E! Elevate too...raise above your hip level...
Shookspeared · 24/11/2020 19:09

@Greysparkles

You need to go have it looked at if it's as bad as you describe. Meanwhile, take ibuprofen, ice & elevate for the swelling
Don't take ibuprofen as it's not safe to take when pregnant.

I think I'd probably be going to a&e, if it was as bad as you say.

DougRossIsTheBoss · 24/11/2020 19:11

I'm gonna say cruciate ligament tear.

Rest ice compression elevation for now but you will bed to see a dr and have an x Ray so I'd say A&E.

Not life threatening if you don't but better if you do for pain relief, getting it x rayed, seen by specialist and properly strapped.

So not ambulance but A&E yeh.

teaandbiscuitsface · 24/11/2020 19:11

Definitely go to A&E or minor injuries. I had a nasty fall a few years ago and my knee swelled up very quickly, I felt like I didn't have control over my leg (bending and straightening) and couldn't move around properly. I had other injuries which were more visible and dealt with first but it turned out my knee cap was fractured when I did get it properly checked out. So yes, get checked!

SpillingTheTea · 24/11/2020 19:12

A&E. They may also give you an ultrasound.

TenShortStories · 24/11/2020 19:17

Sounds like agony and would absolutely be the right thing to get it checked out pronto.

adoiada · 24/11/2020 19:18

I really don't get the British reluctance to go to hospital. It's the worst pain you've ever felt in your life and you can't get out of bed? Yes, of course you should go to A&E

MadeForThis · 24/11/2020 19:19

Go to a&e

cuparfull · 24/11/2020 19:19

Broke my finger two weeks into first lockdown. Bought a splint off the internet to immobilize it, thinking it was just a tendon.
4 weeks later and still sore/stiff, so took myself to A&E. It was amazing. Very quiet, safe and fast. But given the delay it was too late to repair the break, so now have a permanently bent finger,
Wear a mask and go! Its possible you've displaced your kneecap or chipped a bone given the pain you have.Flowers

alexdgr8 · 24/11/2020 19:21

i'm a bit surprised your husband didn't carry you home and arrange to get you straight to A&E.
that where you need to go. now.
good luck.

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 24/11/2020 19:24

You might have fractured your knee cap. Off to a&e for an x-ray i think

Doublebubblebubble · 24/11/2020 19:27

Where I am there is a minor injuries unit. Id go to hosp now just to make sure it isnt anything too bad. You might have to go in alone though thats the only thing. Wear a mask (or 2) and let us know with an update!

NotQuiteUsual · 24/11/2020 19:31

I hope you've already gone. But if you're not and still wondering if you should. I had a hip and leg injury very similar to yours in pregnancy. Couldn't use the toilet or walk unaided. The midwives directed me to A+E. I needed Xrays, overnight care, physio and a lovely occu health lady to teach me to use crutches. The orthopedics staff love injured pregnant women, I had about a dozen students come watch how to deal with me. They all made copious notes. 8 felt like a celebrity.

SoulofanAggron · 24/11/2020 19:34

I think I'd go to A&E if the pain was really severe, in case it's a break/fracture.
