Posting on aibu for traffic.

I was out with my children & DH when I fell quite badly on my knee, when I did it iv never felt so much pain in my life (and iv pushed two babies out naturally), I felt like I was going to pass out & be sick.

Luckily I was just across the road from my house so I managed to hobble home iv not been out of bed since, my knee is SO sore, it's really swollen & red. No bruising just yet. I'm also 15weeks pregnant.

I literally can't get to the toilet without help.

Do I go to a&e or just wait it out and see how it is in the morning? Obviously apprehensive about going to the hospital's

Waiting times are usually better at MIU (minor injuries unit), they don't get as busy because they have a limited scope but they can definitely deal with muscular skeletal issues and will be able to xray. I would also think it would be a bit lower risk if you're worried about covid as there's usually less people there than A&E.

A&E. I was there the other night, and they were bored rigid because there were no patients (big city A&E - normally 7 hrs waiting time). I was the only person there. Doctors were falling over themselves to see me. I felt like saying I had various other things wrong with me, if they'd like something to do. Grin

Seriously: A&E.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 24/11/2020 19:43

Do go to a and e.

BrummyMum1 · 24/11/2020 19:54

A and E is for accidents and emergencies. You’ve had an accident, you should go.

anothernamereally · 24/11/2020 19:55

Yes I would go too - our minor injuries is appointment only through 111 at the moment though so maybe give them a call (if you're not already there)

Scarlettpixie · 24/11/2020 20:08

Another vote for a&e. Hospitals have systems in place. Try not to worry. I had two knee injuries which required splints. You need proper advice to know how best to treat it,

Darkstar4855 · 24/11/2020 20:09

Call 111 - they can direct you to your nearest minor injuries unit or urgent treatment centre.

You don’t need to call your midwife unless you fell onto your bump.

sbhydrogen · 24/11/2020 20:11

I would go to A&E

HappyThursdays · 24/11/2020 20:12

poor you, sounds so painful! please do go!

HuntedForest · 24/11/2020 20:12

A&E.

ArranBound · 24/11/2020 20:13

Please go!

A couple of years ago I went over forwards on my ankle & felt something tear. I had swelling and bruising, and awful pain, for weeks. I didn't see a doctor for 3 months, thinking I'd be fobbed off, and now my foot & ankle are knackered. Don't be over-cautious like I was.

ChronicallyCurious · 24/11/2020 20:13

This sounds like my knee when I dislocated it! It disclosed and then went straight back in so all I felt was the pain and didn’t see it out of the socket.

I nearly vomited at the pain, couldn’t weight bare at all and needed help on and off the bed. It went HUGE and was so hot to touch. A&E did a scan and gave me a brace and crutches. I’d 100% go.

ILovemyCatsSoSoMuch · 24/11/2020 20:16

A&E (just in case you haven’t got the message yet!)

My son broke his arm recently, it wasn’t bruised or swollen (ever) but I took him to A&E based on him being very pale and shaking half an hour later and clearly in a lot of pain.

QuestionableMouse · 24/11/2020 20:17

@DougRossIsTheBoss

I'm gonna say cruciate ligament tear.

Rest ice compression elevation for now but you will bed to see a dr and have an x Ray so I'd say A&E.

Not life threatening if you don't but better if you do for pain relief, getting it x rayed, seen by specialist and properly strapped.

So not ambulance but A&E yeh.

Yep. I did one a few years ago and spent a few months on crutches.
pinkbalconyrailing · 24/11/2020 20:19

a relative fell on his knee from standing and shattered the top of the tibia and the knee cap and needed an operation to fix it.
I hope you have been seen.

oatmilk4breakfast · 24/11/2020 20:24

depends what's nearest you, minor injuries or a&e but definitely go - that's what the A in A&E is for :)

WutheringTights · 24/11/2020 20:25

A&E. I broke my kneecap while preg and it sounds just like what you're going through. Whilst it was healing I also had to have blood thinners and wear her flattering compression stockings as being immobile put me at increased risk of DVT.

whatsleep · 24/11/2020 20:30

Not goi g to repeat what everyone else had already said. Hopefully you have already sort medical help and are being looked after

DumplingsAndStew · 24/11/2020 20:38

Why are you even out of the house? Don't you know we're in a pandemic??

Hopefully that distracted you from the pain for a second - either laughter or annoyance Wink

MyOtherProfile · 24/11/2020 21:30

Hope you're ok OP.
