Is Jo Malone perfume worth it?

I received some Jo Malone inspired wax melts and was thinking that my children could club together get me some perfume at Christmas. Is it worth it? If any of you have a Jo Malone perfume could you recommend one? I like clean fresh fragrances.

@RickJames that’s exactly what I smell if the fragrance doesn’t agree with me,cat’s piss 😂
First time ever I see somebody mention it

NewlyGranny · 22/11/2020 21:28

Yes. But you need to try it on your skin first to be sure it's right. Or Penhaligon's do a box of little samples that are a delight.

NewlyGranny · 22/11/2020 21:29

A perfume can go off on your skin if it reacts badly. That happens to my DS with lots of fragrances. 🤷🏼‍♀️

NewlyGranny · 22/11/2020 21:30

DSis, not son!

Griselda1 · 22/11/2020 21:30

Tesco do quite similar ones, they don't have testers available at the minute but I really like them.

Pasqual · 22/11/2020 21:30

Yes, worth every penny.

Wore nectarine blossom & honey on my wedding day, all time favourite.
Also a fan of orange blossom, peony and blush suede & mimosa and cardamom

bimbimbap · 22/11/2020 21:34

the orange blossom one is lovely & fresh, my bottle is almost done now so hoping for a new one for christmas!

Lol chanel no5 smells like that to me. Just can never understand why people like it. I really worked hard with a bottle I had to give it time and in the end sold it to a mate!

Had pear and freesia a few years ago as a birthday present from DH. It was nice but I couldn't get the fragrance to last. I don't get the hype tbh.

laudemio · 22/11/2020 21:45

Miller Harris are lovely

laudemio · 22/11/2020 21:46

And Penhaligons!

You didn’t do anything wrong. As a pp said they are colognes, pretty much the weakest perfumes that you can buy. It is an extraordinary feat of marketing that they get away with the prices that they do.
ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 22/11/2020 21:55

Love jo malone, however I discovered perfume parlour a couple of months ago and they are great. I won't be going back to jo malone for perfume.

SentientAndCognisant · 22/11/2020 21:56

No, Jo Malone was bought out by Estée Lauder and stupidly she gave up rights to her own name
The perfume she now sells is Called Jo loves

Flowerblue · 22/11/2020 22:00

A perfume is only worth how lovely it makes you feel. If you’ve tried a particular Jo Malone tester and fallen in love with it, then yes, it’s worth it.

SentientAndCognisant · 22/11/2020 22:03

Niche perfumes that are super and a joy to wear are
Miller Harris esp powdered veil
Penhaligons esp peoneve
Floral street esp Iris goddess

Jo malone is cologne , essentially the same strength as impulse body spray noe EDT or EDP, really a con and triumph of marketing

pilates · 22/11/2020 22:13

I love the scent but it literally lasts minutes on me 😔

user1487194234 · 22/11/2020 22:14

For me yes,it is worth it

CherryPavlova · 22/11/2020 22:24

Only ever wear JM Red Roses. It’s subtle rather than obvious or overpowering, but I don’t want to smell like a nightclub. I like a very gentle smell but people often tell me I smell nice.

JoeNotExotic · 22/11/2020 22:27

I do really love the scents but they don’t have very good lasting power IMO.

Exactly this. And agree with the PP who says no. 5 smells like cat piss. I wonder if it's just me or it's like the Emporer's New Clothes and no one really likes it.

PinkArt · 22/11/2020 22:53

Beautiful scents but as others have said they don't last well at all. If you're still keen on the idea, they do a 5 x 10ml cologne set for Xmas which is a great way to try a few - I think a couple of scents that have been recommended here are in this year's set. It'll be reduced somewhere for Black Friday this week too

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 22/11/2020 22:59

Go for Jo Loves, rather than Jo Malone, which is now nothing to do with Jo Malone.

EmilySpinach · 22/11/2020 23:22

It makes perfect sense to me that if you tend to like Jo Malone then you might not like No 5, and vice versa. JM’s fragrances tend to be very botanical, which is why I find them thin and weedy but their fans find them delightfully fresh. No 5 has a massive whack of aldehydes on the top note, creating a very soapy effect, then a lot of jasmine in the middle (which is where the cat piss probably comes from) and a musky dry down.

480Widdio · 22/11/2020 23:38

Not worth the money now, they were when they were actually Jo Malone.
