Just that really. Deaths aren't really any higher than usual and hospital beds are less occupied than usual. Or are people going to say these figures aren't accurate

@Storyofcats

Theres no evidence currently that suicides are 'through the roof' it's a very typical year so far as we have the data for. I suspect that there will be an increase in suicide next year due to economic impact of covid (as seem in the 80s and mid 90s) but we are not seeing that yet.
Yes. And bereavement. That's always been a major trigger for depression and suicidal feelings. Hopefully the government will (finally) improve funding and access to good mental health care - including bereavement counselling and PTSD (especially needed by our under pressure frontline healthcare workers).

@Madhairday

What’s the point of eking out a few more years of life stuck in and unable to do your social activities etc. It’s beyond miserable for millions of people

OP do you have any idea how utterly offensive and downright ableist that statement is? You are basically saying that the lives of those with long term chronic illness and disability who are housebound are simply not worth living. Therefore they are expendable and obviously would just prefer to get covid and die.

Well, cheers for that.

It's a sickening attitude, isn't it. Disabled people are very much valued members of a civilised society - and their lives do matter.

And it's not going be a few years. Well not unless the Do Nothing To Contain and anti vaxxer groups get their way and continue dragging this out.

We have vaccines pretty much ready to go. 20 million doses of the Oxford (and a further 80 million due) and several million more of the others. There's a light at the end of the tunnel. It would be criminally negligent to allow tens of thousands of avoidable deaths AND start the new year with an economically devastating January. We're nearly there. All we need is a tiny little bit of patience. If we'd had more patience in February and March, it would've been pretty much normal by now (foreign holidays excepted).

Give a source that says they aren’t (they are)
Unlike you, I have provided sources.

Thanks for the link. It says:

,WHAT WAS CLAIMED
Covid-19 and influenza statistics are being combined to make the numbers look worse.

OUR VERDICT
This is not true. Statistics about the two diseases are being published separately in the same document. This has no effect on the numbers

Userzzz · 25/11/2020 02:14

But .. but.. long Covid!
YANBU OP, our lives are fucked over lies lies lies.

Hi Michael, was the OP posting under two names? I'm confused!

Haven’t read the full thread (sorry!) but those specific graphs have been discredited due to manipulating the portrayal of the data.
