To be surprised they are doing this?

Or am I missing something?
As with me, my friend lives away from her new DP. They spent the first lockdown together but she travelled home when the new lockdown came into force. She lives about an hour away.
Today, she is posting on FB with her partner, a photo of them both in the kitchen making Christmas cake.
None of them are single households and it was definitely taken today.

OP posts:

@LaceyBetty

I love the faux surprise in these posts - the wide-eyed pretend naïveté. So funny.
X post! I totally agree.
rottiemum88 · 21/11/2020 13:55

@MiaMarshmallows

Just curious that's all. If they live with other adults which they do then I didn't think they were meant to mix with other households
If you're so curious surely the best person to ask would be your friend, not random people on the internet? Hmm
Bluntness100 · 21/11/2020 14:01

@WilsonMilson

One of the many things I hate about covid is what it’s done to people. It’s come to a sorry state of humanity when we are now judging partners being together and making a Christmas cake together.
It’s not done it to many people to be honest. Just the few.

I don’t know what’s behind it, envy, bitterness, resentment, whatever it is it isn’t good,

gingerwhinger0 · 21/11/2020 14:05

Oh this is quite the dilemma, what do you think you should do op ?

saraclara · 21/11/2020 14:07

Probably one of them has the house to themselves today. Call it a temporary bubble.

But yep, I would go insane if I stressed about every minor breakage of the rules, when it doesn't affect a crowd. I'm keeping to them myself, and that's all that needs space in my brain right now.

WorraLiberty · 21/11/2020 14:08

Am I being unreasonable to be surprised they are doing this?

Yes YABU.

You should be astonished, amazed, flabbergasted, startled and shocked to the very core.

'Surprised' is far too bland for us Mumsnetters.

ddl1 · 21/11/2020 14:09

They could be in a bubble together.

Sobeyondthehills · 21/11/2020 14:11

I am sensing a name change on the horizon for the OP or deletion of the thread for privacy reasons.

Can someone pass the popcorn

Mumtumwobble · 21/11/2020 14:11

No OP they shouldn’t be doing this at all. People should be sticking to the rules. It’s selfish people, like this, who think the rules don’t apply to them who are going to continue to spread the virus. None of us want to be in lockdown, but the numbers wouldn’t be so high if people just followed the rules.

Maryann1975 · 21/11/2020 14:16

Get a life
This made me lol. As if we can all start ‘getting a life’, that’s the whole point of the post. Op is feeling really pissed off that she is doesn’t have a life because she is following the rules while her friend is visiting her partner And carrying on with hers when she shouldn’t be.

Op, let it go, not your circus, not your monkeys. There is nothing you can do about it apart from dob her in and I really don’t think that is helpful to anyone.

No, its because our government are inefficient, underprepared and the rules are ineffective and make little to no sense.

You can try and blame the public, but when you have a government more concerned about fighting amongst themselves the blame lays firmly at their door,

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2020 14:18

@SavoyCabbage it's stir up Sunday tomorrow. The time when Christmas cakes and puddings are traditionally made.

Pipandmum · 21/11/2020 14:20

Sure it's against the rules. But my cleaning woman can come and clean, and an employee can come work in my house. Maybe with that in mind they made their decision.

itchyfinger · 21/11/2020 14:25

How do you even have time to give this headspace? Let alone come and moan on a forum?

KitKatastrophe · 21/11/2020 14:30

@LaceyBetty

Yep. "Just curious", "have I misunderstood" etc. In March everyone probably would have agreed with you OP but you're at least 6 months too late.
BananaPop2020 · 21/11/2020 14:34

OP you sound like my 70 something mother, who spends her entire life monitoring and criticising her neighbours for Covid ‘infractions’. She has no idea how bitter and tedious she sounds.

jessstan1 · 21/11/2020 14:43

@OverTheRainbow88

None of your business

Who cares

Move on

Yep.
Worried234 · 21/11/2020 14:44

@CrotchBurn

Get a life.

Failing that a hobby

This. The curtain twitching, faux surprised, snitchers are so fucking dull.
Laiste · 21/11/2020 14:44

Maybe he's moved in with her?

Wouldn't that be the most obvious thing?

MaidEdithofAragon · 21/11/2020 14:50

“They’re not meant to mix, that’s not something that requires “opinions”.

People have started deciding on their own risks for a variety of reasons - MH, lockdown fatigue, not bothered/totally aware of risks etc etc

I’ve started to just leave people to it, I find it wastes too much of my energy to care and if I’m distancing and following the rules then it doesn’t affect me (I know this is an unpopular opinion!)”

100% with @GooseWhiskers.

HelloMissus · 21/11/2020 14:50

I saw Goody Proctor mixing a bowl of currants.

HmmSureJan · 21/11/2020 14:54

Honestly I would really be worried about myself if I was looking at stuff like this on SM and tutting over it.

MrsBrunch · 21/11/2020 14:55

@MiaMarshmallows

No they are not supposed to be mixing households.

Lots of stupid people think it's ok though.

Checkyourvoicemail · 21/11/2020 14:56

YABU.

Mind your own business and find a new hobby.

PeggyPorschen · 21/11/2020 14:59

No one cares about this lockdown frankly

the government has decided to issue guidelines, not following it through any further, so people are still meeting up, staying over and so on. Non essential shops are opened, it's a bit of a laugh really.

It's really shit for the ones who are really suffering because of it (hair dressers, travel industry, wedding industry) but the rest of the country has decided to ignore it.

Why should your friend be the only one not meeting with her boyfriend? They are not having a wedding for 200, it's fine.
