People browsing clothes at M&S

Went into the food hall at M&S today, to enter you have to walk through the main shop to get to the back where the food hall is.

On my way through I was surprised to see people browsing the clothing rails and many people had their hands full of clothes/socks/scarfs etc which I presume they thought they could buy. I didn't notice if anyone was on the till but staff didn't seem to be challenging them at all, I did notice more than a handful of people in the main shop so it wasn't just one or two people being cheeky. Anyone else noticed this?
@funinthesun19 So you're prepared to kill 10 old people so your son can have warm clean feet....... selfish cow.
It's there a score system? 10 for slippers, 5 for socks, 50 for something completely decadent like a new winter coat. ;)

year5teacher · 21/11/2020 09:01

Blame the government for allowing the clothes section to stay open if you have a problem with it, rather than the people literally going into a part of a shop they are allowed to go into.

bitheby · 21/11/2020 09:03

@nosswith

The England rules seem more about who can open, which did not surprise me after one (presumably male) Tesco manager in a store in Wales considered sanitary protection to be non-essential.

This isn't what happened. There was a robbery in the store and the aisle was closed off. It happened to contain sanitary products.

A shopper complained via Twitter and received the standard due to firebreak restrictions message. But it wasn't and Tesco subsequently apologised.

I walk to work and back 5 days a week. My raincoat zip is broke and it rained yesterday and I had a squelchy puddle in my shoe all day (my only pair of boots have a hole in). Was making an annoying noise every time I walked. This weekend I will be in search of essential clothes.

DeadBod · 21/11/2020 09:06

My M&S have removed the clothing and the Xmas stock completely and spread the food stock out to fill the large gap.

Smellbellina · 21/11/2020 09:17

The irony of your post is hilarious.. you went out to pick up presents but you’re bitching about people being out for non essential reasons ?

What a nasty bullshit response, that isn’t what the poster said at all, what is wrong with people’s comprehension on this site?

userxx · 21/11/2020 09:18

@SufferingFromLongLockdown Stay away from the sequins, that would be carnage 😉

Well staff wouldn't let people into the clothes section if they weren't allowed ti buy them would they? Confused

You have to walk through to get to the food hall

@sunshinehappy20 I'm sure M&S could manage to section by putting barriers etc up to show people they couldn't buy.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 21/11/2020 10:13

I noticed Max Spielman's is open, can't for the life of me work out why they are classed as essential?

OverThinkingUnderDoing · 21/11/2020 10:40

bookworming but they can buy it.

userxx · 21/11/2020 10:41

@Bookworming Buying clothes is allowed.

Bookworming · 21/11/2020 10:44

@OverThinkingUnderDoing and @userxx I know and totally agree, I was just saying to OP, that if they weren't allowed and they had to walk through that section they would barrier it off.

All supermarkets sell clothes and they have been allowed during current restrictions, not sure why OP ever thought M&S should be different.

LouJ85 · 21/11/2020 10:46

You can still buy clothes in Tesco. We got some baby items from there the other day for our new arrival Smile

LouJ85 · 21/11/2020 10:49

I remember someone in the first lockdown saying to me, literally all in the same sentence, "I can't believe all these people ordering non essential toys and rubbish online,

Why do people give a shit what others are buying online?! It doesn't even involve leaving your house fgs!! Amazon has been my best friend during lockdown Smile

RegularHumanBartender · 21/11/2020 10:54

@tulippa I really do feel that we need a photo of these sprout party poppers, if you'd be so kind? I now need to go to Tesco just to buy these.

Moomin12345 · 21/11/2020 10:56

Oh goodie. Lockdown Stasi are back. Mind your own business, I'll browse through piles and piles of m&s clothes if I feel like itGrin

tulippa · 21/11/2020 11:00

@RegularHumanBartender They were these: www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/301072131
They had Christmas pudding ones too. Smile

RegularHumanBartender · 21/11/2020 11:07

Oh they are excellent, thank you!! Off to Tesco now Grin

Thatoldchestnutagain · 21/11/2020 11:45

The shop is open, they are paying for heating and lighting as well as staff costs. Shopping isn't meant to be a leisurely pursuit at the moment though, for all our sakes. I would guess the toilets being closed is one way to discourage people from hanging around and potentially 'spreading' the virus, the cafe is closed afterall (shops have to provide toilets If they're serving food and drink).
Just before lockdown when Primark was still open with extra measures in place, but ignored by many, others were queuing outside for their turn...it started raining hard and those who had done their shopping were refusing to leave the store thus allowing those outside in the rain to come in...selfish bastards everywhere

It's shopping that is the problem not buying imho, click and collect is not shopping

Yes this is crazy isn't it! There was a MN poster telling everyone how selfish it was to order toys, books etc online because her OH who worked for DPD or something then had to risk his life! to deliver them 😂
user1487194234 · 21/11/2020 12:07

I will comply with the legal requirements but not made up rules
If shops are able to sell stuff I am able to buy

😂😂
I'm speechless. Which doesn't happen often.

@Whatwouldscullydo i think the point is its unfair on independent stationery shops

I mean paperchase is closed , people are buying Xmas cards in smiths, tesco, m&s, online sales won't make up the fact they're losing money
