Oops things have moved on from the bench.
Guiliani? I think he’s in the throes of some sort of dementia.

Roussette · 22/11/2020 11:56

borntobequiet it just sorta looked broken which sums everything up for me...

DGRossetti · 22/11/2020 12:05

Who was it who said make the lie big enough and tell it often enough and people will believe it ?

Goebbels I think.

It’s such a shame that the main proponents of the Big Lie are now the US President and the UK Prime Minister (and their acolytes, henchmen and hangers-on).

The is no example in history where behaviour like this it doesn't end in a heads on spikes revolution. Maybe not for this not. Or the next. But eventually the conspiracy of complacency shatters and it's downhill fast.

Incidentally anyone else impressed how Nuremberg was quietly not mentioned on Friday (I know I did) ? Big fuss about VE day. D-Day. Even VJ day. But less so to remind us that the bastards got what was coming to them.

Odd that.

The Trump campaign is requesting another recount in Georgia
Fill your boots Donald. It just means Biden will win it for the third time.

But he knows that, this is all to buy time to try and ensure States miss the safe harbour deadline and then he hopes he can flip those as yet unpledged states

I think we should chose all leaders purely on the basis of their hair. Trump's head screams "fraudulent coverup with nothing real underneath the facade". Boris's says "couldn't give a fuck"

Even Biden's bald pate says "everything out in the open, nothing to hide"

Not sure what Rudi's dripping dye job implies...

I don't think this was posted yesterday - apologies if it was- but it's a fascinating article about the implications of truth decay and the US relationship with the truth.

The declaration “we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal” was written by a man who enslaved men he did not consider his equal, and became the foundation of a country that incessantly declared its belief in truth and justice while enslaving and oppressing much of its population.

There are parallels with the way the English have told the story of the empire and WW2 as well.

knittingaddict · 22/11/2020 12:46

@Roussette

Bezos could sort this without blinking. Why aren't the top billionaires in US stepping up. In fact Bezos, Gates, Zuckerberg and Musk... they could pass on £1B each and help. Conspicuous by their absence. Band together and send their share price rocketing with good publicity.

Naive of me probably

At least two of those people (Zuckerberg and Musk) have featured on a podcast I listen to called Behind the Bastards. They are not nice people, so expecting them to do anything which doesn't directly line their pockets is pointless. My opinion of Zuckerberg is particularly bad.

I don't have a problem with Biden asking for donations to fund the transition. We're in uncharted territory here. Normally the US Govt pays for it, but if one of Scrotus' minions is sitting on those funds at Scrotus' command in order to hamstring Joe, what is Joe to do? If this was a 'normal' transition he could probably just wait it out. But it's not, we're in a worldwide pandemic and it's imperative that his team does all it can to prepare to take the reins that are controlling our national response. Is he supposed to pay for this out of his own pocket? And Kamala's? They don't have that kind of money. So to whom is he supposed to turn but the people who helped him win the presidency?

It is permissible for US citizens to make direct contributions to Agencies of the US Govt, so theoretically people could donate that way. But any money so donated would go directly to the GSA and so to the woman who is already refusing to release the funds. Dead end.

As far as huge billionaire & corporate donations, again uncharted territory. Under campaign finance law, that would be illegal as there are caps to donations. Are these 'transition donations' covered by that law as they aren't technically campaign donations? IS there even a law that covers this? The transition team is probably figuring that the best they can do is follow campaign contribution law.

maggiethecat · 22/11/2020 14:03

I’ve read that in more recent elections there has been this type of fundraising for the winner to supplement the government’s transition fund which apparently is woefully inadequate even in the best of times.

I suspect the public will be familiar with this type of appeal for support and will recognise how critically urgent it is now.

Hitler in Mein Kamf; Geobbels quoted him.

But it is worth remembering that Hitler said it about the Jews, thus inaccurately accusing them of what he wished to do himself (or have done for him) -- does that remind you of anyone?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 22/11/2020 14:59

Thank you, @AcrossthePond55, I really appreciate your perspective as a US voter on this. The replies by people who had voted for him on Biden's thread asking for money on Twitter were very different from yours, in the main. I take your points but feel that Biden will lose support because of his being forced by Trump into taking this approach. That Emily woman is a little shit, isn't she☹️

maggiethecat · 22/11/2020 15:17

Actually, she’ll probably be shitting herself tomorrow 😂

BruceAndNosh · 22/11/2020 15:35

Apparently OAN has "data" that gives Trump 410 electoral college votes.
So that's nice for him

Lweji · 22/11/2020 15:48

It's Megyn Kelly, ex-Fox News, strongly conservative, but no one's fool:

I've just finished watching Bombshell, which also covers the Trump-Kelly duel and how Fox (or Ailes) failed to support her.

I definitely don't agree with most of her opinions, and I find it weird when she says she's not a feminist, but I do respect her.

BTW, worth listening to in relation to how GOP or Trump voters will be feeling now. Not that I agree with her, but I think she does have a pulse on how the right wing voters feel.
Not sure how she reconciles her "left wing woke elites" with the likes of Ocasio-Cortez. But I suspect Democrats may have more success when they tap into those more grounded people.

Lweji · 22/11/2020 16:06

I'm surprised, they don't give him 538. Wink
