@SugarbabyMilly

Any ideas why Giuliani is happy to have his own reputation shot to pieces in all this?
Because trump has him over a barrel.... by the short and curlys etc, he's compromised such that he has no choice but to comply with the orange eejit
TheNorthWestPawsage · 22/11/2020 11:11

Zuckerberg may nominally be a Democrat but imo he's a bad faith actor.

Why don't they just stop being sycophants
Again because they're compromised, complicit in his crimes, this is how mobster types operate, they make sure that everyone is compromised so that if they go down everyone goes down with them

Of course, remember that he regards us all as 'dumb fucks'

Ahh I see. What a depressing situation this is. But certainly he is like a mobster. It's actually unbelievable that this has been possible. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Roussette · 22/11/2020 11:17

In other news...

Kyle Rittenhouse who murdered two people and caused life changing injuries to another during a BLM protest has got bail put up by Trump's My Pillow guy and other GOP donors. This is a 17 year old who committed murder.

Now we have this... (Sabatini is a Republican member of Florida's legislature)
Shock 😮😮
Rep. Anthony Sabatini
@AnthonySabatini
KYLE RITTENHOUSE FOR CONGRESS

Roussette · 22/11/2020 11:20

isn't it better to have grassroots funding than possibly being perceived as being in the hands of big tech or whoever else's interest you could be later accused of serving?

maggiecat you are totally right, I'm just thinking out loud Smile because this position they are in is untenable. Naive thinking on my part really

maggiethecat · 22/11/2020 11:20

It's not just a matter of people being compromised. There will be enough of those whom he has nothing on but who are not saying anything.

They are all worried about the power he wields over his base and accordingly the tenuous nature of their own political positions.

Yohoheaveho · 22/11/2020 11:20

I think it's been possible because no one could believe that someone would behave so badly, and in plain sight
I think Trump is very unusual, a talented con man of course he has bitten off far more than he could chew
the mobster behaviour is just the natural unfolding of his personality type in the circumstances, he does it by instinct probably more than conscious design

BruceAndNosh · 22/11/2020 11:21

Despite having been to 22 states in the US, I cannot reconcile the complete online dumbfuckery of a large swathe of the population with the lovely people I have met in real life

BruceAndNosh · 22/11/2020 11:24

The mistake everyone made with Trump is that they judge his behaviour on the basis of societal and political norms.
He does not conform to these rules, heck he doesn't even acknowledge they exist.

Anon778833 · 22/11/2020 11:25

The pandemic has fed into all this and has not helped people see things clearly. Some people wanted to see him re-elected because they think Covid is a hoax and he will make it go away. The quarantines have (I assume) led to anxious and depressed people reading crackpot theories online and becoming a bit brainwashed. This is worldwide.

I don't understand how he even got into the position to run for President. Many people must have been aware of who he is and his pathological personality?

Yes and he smells all this and instinctively knows how to work it to his advantage
CoteFolie · 22/11/2020 11:30

In fact Bezos, Gates, Zuckerberg and Musk... they could pass on £1B each and help.

My opinion, fwiw, is the

  1. The Dems are hampered by the Bernie brigade's objection to corporate funding.
  2. Many of the influencers are still not sure how this is going to pan out. Trump has too often emerged from crisis as the winner and he is then vindictive. So they are playing it safe.

I do think it was a bad move by Biden or at least badly communicated. He may be trying to show Trump he's cool with the stalling but he's starting to come across as weak and a possible easy pushover.

He is apparently (source: MSNBC commentators) reluctant to take legal action because the constitution doesn't provide for declaring the election on the basis of just counting the votes and the right leaning court may not rule in his favour. It's another custom and practice thing that Trump has driven coach and horses through.

Yohoheaveho · 22/11/2020 11:30

I think he got to run for president because people believed the manufactured TV persona was the real him

Roussette · 22/11/2020 11:33

I get that but do these people have no moral compass whatsoever? Making a stand, moving on, accepting you might not be a Senator anymore might mean you reclaim some sort of self worth and get a good career from speaking out.
People do leave politics, I just don't understand why none of them are

Some of the people that burned witches to save their souls were also really really nice, I'll bet.
maggiethecat · 22/11/2020 11:36

SugarbabyMilly - did you not follow the 2016 elections and how Republicans, even those including Lindsey Graham, who were initially damning of him jumped on the bandwagon when they realised the enormity of his popularity?

Graham went from calling Trump a "race baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot" to being arse licker in chief.

DuncinToffee · 22/11/2020 11:39

The Trump campaign is requesting another recount in Georgia

[/quote] No, I didn't and thinking back I think it's because my severely disabled daughter was living at home and I was barely managing the day to day struggles of keeping her from causing mayhem 😬 she's much better now, hence I have time to look at what's going on.
maggiethecat · 22/11/2020 11:47

Rousette - no moral compass whatsoever. They are relying on the lies and conspiracy theories to cover them in a cloak of doing the right thing and allowing every vote to be counted so that democracy can prevail.

But I think things will start to shift this week especially as more counties/states certify their results. We've heard a few Republican voices starting to acknowledge Biden's win. And the most recent PA case loss and the Republican judge's scathing judgment may encourage some to finally see that everyone else can see that the lawsuits have no traction and that the game is up.

borntobequiet · 22/11/2020 11:48

Ha ha that sculpture looks like a collapsed bench! I’m imagining Melania just out of shot sitting on her bum and looking surprised.

Coldhand · 22/11/2020 11:54

Given the litigious nature of the US political system I don't know why the ACLU /NAACP don't announce they are planning a wrongful death class action suit against the GSA head for every COVID death that occurs for x days after inauguration (where x equals the number of days between the election being called and the ascertainment being signed). I would imagine that would concentrate her mind.
