Enough already! Delusional, depraved, but DEFEATED. We may have to wait until Jan 20th but 45 will be GONE. McConnell is next...

@SugarbabyMilly

Any ideas why Giuliani is happy to have his own reputation shot to pieces in all this?
Cos he has a lost to lose...
Anon778833 · 22/11/2020 10:00

@Lweji - he's just managed to piss people off before he's even inaugurated. He needs to rise above Trump and his pathetic behaviour.

God knows. It's usually money.
Anon778833 · 22/11/2020 10:04

In my view the American public have done their bit by voting the dictator out. I am not sure how it can be legal what Trump is doing denying funds. Surely there should be laws about complying with the incoming administration if they are not going to change the amount of time between changeover?

Lweji · 22/11/2020 10:06
@Lweji - he's just managed to piss people off before he's even inaugurated. He needs to rise above Trump and his pathetic behaviour.
He has. Hmm

That's why he's not screaming or tweeting at Trump in anger.
He's seeking public support to get things moving.
If you don't like it, don't contribute.
I would, as a white glove slap to Trump.

It's Trump who is being undignified. 100%

Anon778833 · 22/11/2020 10:09

Yes there's no comparison between Biden and Trump - that's not what I mean. I have no words for the disgust and contempt that Trump evokes in me - he's the most vile human to walk the earth. Biden will do a much better job. It's a shame it came to that.

chomalungma · 22/11/2020 10:09

This entire situation would justify direct elections and a much faster transition of power

The UK is pretty brutal with their elections.
Go to the Queen and form a new Government on the same day.

I wonder if this will bring round some election reform?

Lweji · 22/11/2020 10:19

It will bring the same reform as for gun control, probably. Confused

Mittens030869 · 22/11/2020 10:21

We are in the middle of a pandemic, with new cases and deaths escalating at an alarming rate. Biden is keen to be able to hit the ground running after his inauguration and he needs to be prepared. Fauci has expressed his frustration at being unable to work with him; as he puts it, the virus won't 'take a time-out', it's continuing to spread. He's warned that there could be as many as 200,000 excess deaths as a result of Trump's behaviour. Biden wants to be ready to take immediate action once he's in the White House.

He wouldn't be doing this if Trump was actually doing his job rather than abandoning his post and playing golf all day. He actually skipped the G20 discussion of the pandemic.

The Judge in the Giuliani/Pennsylvania case is on fire in throwing out the Trump case.

"This Court has been presented with ... speculative accusation ... unsupported by evidence. In the United States of America, this cannot justify the disenfranchisement of a single voter, let alone all the voters of its sixth most populated state."

Via @davidfrum on Twitter.

Anyone read that ? It's actually a paradigm of legal summary. Surprisingly readable.

The irony of all of this, will be come 21/1/2021, the US election system will appear to have got a 100% bill of health. I am pleasantly impressed with how resilient it's been.

BruceAndNosh · 22/11/2020 10:43

And Canada had a big spike in cases 3 weeks after their Thanksgiving in mid October which is why Toronto is back in lockdown.
I million people travelled thru US airports on Friday.... This could translate to a spike early in December with Deaths peaking around Christmas. Happy fucking Holidays

Lweji · 22/11/2020 10:44

And yet Trump seems to have learnt a few new things on G20.
Who'd have thought COVID-19 was running wild, in the US and elsewhere?

Donald J. Trump
(@realDonaldTrump)
The Fake News is not talking about the fact that “Covid” is running wild all over the World, not just in the U.S. I was at the Virtual G-20 meeting early this morning and the biggest subject was Covid. We will be healing fast, especially with our vaccines!

TheNorthWestPawsage · 22/11/2020 10:47

I have no problem with the incoming President raising funds through donations. Needs must. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Rightly or wrongly, the US political candidate system is supported by donations from supporters both big and small. That it has come to this is undoubtedly regrettable but the blame can only be laid at Trump's and McConnell's doors.

SugarbabyMilly - piss people off for trying to save lives? Confused

I'm sure the Biden team is looking at various legal options at forcing the GSA's hands but in the meantime the situation is grim. I hardly think they'd be thanked for sitting around waiting for something to give.

DGRossetti · 22/11/2020 10:49

@SugarbabyMilly

I also thought that Biden should definitely not be asking the American public to help fix this. They have enough on their plates already. Not a professional approach surely?
There are any number of huge companies that could slip a few seconds money from their coffee budget that would be millions of dollars. Or just wealthy donors (Hard it imagine Jeff Bezos missing $50,000,000 )

The problem it you can't do that anonymously and legally. If you want to do that you need small donations that are below the threshold of declaration.

DGRossetti · 22/11/2020 10:53

I have no problem with the incoming President raising funds through donations.

Or loans ?

Surely they have enough smarts in the campaign to track every donation and refund it when they allocated funds are released?

Would change the narrative a bit. Also might make some Trump donors start asking "Maybe we should get a refund too ?"

It's not my opinion it's the American public's. I mean, obviously this situation is entirely Trumps fault, the wanker. Americans are of the opinion that they already pay their taxes and are now being asked to compensate for Trump's outrageous behaviour.
Roussette · 22/11/2020 11:04

Bezos could sort this without blinking. Why aren't the top billionaires in US stepping up.
In fact Bezos, Gates, Zuckerberg and Musk... they could pass on £1B each and help.
Conspicuous by their absence.
Band together and send their share price rocketing with good publicity.

Naive of me probably

maggiethecat · 22/11/2020 11:06

SugarbabyMilly - "He needs to rise above Trump and his pathetic behaviour."

I would say that he has already shown himself to be head and shoulders above the despot. He's actually doing his job.

Anon778833 · 22/11/2020 11:07

Yes I've already said I don't dispute that.

DGRossetti · 22/11/2020 11:08

Why aren't the top billionaires in US stepping up. In fact Bezos, Gates, Zuckerberg and Musk.

The only conclusion is that they don't want to. Worth noting.

Just for clarity, I wasn't talking about corporate donations from their companies. It's obvious they might scare the horses. But a simple 10 second flick of a phone to transfer (say) $100,000,000 of personal dosh. Especially if it was explicitly a loan, not a donation.

Personally I'd suggest the UK volunteer some of it's aid budget - hard to see any complaints from Tories about it going to white people. It would be a fantastic investment in world stability right now.

The only problem is Trumps already queered the "being paid by a foreign power" pitch. Also the exchange rate isn't so good.

BruceAndNosh · 22/11/2020 11:08

There's some brilliant threads on twitter translating legalese for laypersons.
But I did like the tweet that said "Right now, Rudi is telling Trump that Denied as Moot is French for You Win

maggiethecat · 22/11/2020 11:09

Rousette - isn't it better to have grassroots funding than possibly being perceived as being in the hands of big tech or whoever else's interest you could be later accused of serving?

Anon778833 · 22/11/2020 11:10

See, I was always of the opinion that the President of the US doesn't have the amount of power by himself to be able to cause this kind of chaos.

Maybe I was wrong? Or is it that he's surrounded by enablers? Why don't they just stop being sycophants and tell him to at least act like he cares about the country he is supposed to serve?
