*Matthew Brann.

Brann called the legal reasoning behind the Trump campaign's Equal Protection claim "Frankenstein's Monster."

[quote tobee]Did anyone else see this from HuffPost? Further Trump failure to concede knock on:- 😏

I'm afraid that has put me right off Biden☹️ I agree with this chap in "The Observer". https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/nov/22/joe-biden-begging-bowl-demeans-the-worlds-most-powerful-post

You won't be surprised to learn that the Orange team saw it as a victory .....

They are putting much confidence in their pet judges on SCOTUS.

Problem is he has no other way to carry out the transition work because the current administration are refusing to release the usual funds

HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/11/2020 08:46

Odd that the Observer fail to really pin the funding gap blame on the GSA, nor mention the Trump campaign grift to cover his debts. 70% now, is it, of donations?

Isn't that beside the point, though?
HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/11/2020 08:50

Not really. If the GSA stopped being so ridiculously partisan, Biden wouldn't need to ask. And as the article is criticising him for grifting from his voters... The silence on the second point is very relevant.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/11/2020 08:52

It comes back to holding Trump to different standards than others. It's ok when he doesn't, he's Trump, what do you expect? But all others must be morally pure in every way otherwise they are the worst scum of humanity and deserve all sorts, from condemnation to imprisonment to worse.

maggiethecat · 22/11/2020 09:02

That is the unfortunate effect of Cheetos Chump’s plan to withhold transition funds and frustrate the transition work which requires money.

Democrat lawmakers have summoned the head of the GSA this week to explain her actions.

borntobequiet · 22/11/2020 09:23

I don’t see that Biden has any alternative other than sit back and do nothing for want of funds, benefiting no one but Trump et al.

maggiethecat · 22/11/2020 09:24

An incoming team, even in normal circumstances, will have a lot of work to do and that is why millions of dollars will have been set aside before the election under specific legislation.

These are not normal times and I expect that the need for funding is more urgent than ever. The request for funding doesn’t diminish Biden in my eyes. Instead I see his effort in keeping calm and getting on with the job against the Chump’s spiteful and reckless actions.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 22/11/2020 09:28

Trump's disgraceful behaviour is a given and therefore needs no mention as we expect it of him and already know about it. Biden should not be descending to Trump's level, the begging demeans him and the office of the president and undermines his claim to probity, to my mind. I understand why he's doing it, but think he should have sought a legal way to make that Emily woman sign the transition papers before doing exactly what we have been criticising Trump for doing. It lays him open to condemnation by his own, and Trump's, supporters and I think it is a bigly mistake on his part.

From Melania...
'We unveiled Isamu Noguchi's Floor Frame sculpture in the Rose Garden
@WhiteHouse
yesterday. The art piece is humble in scale, complements the authority of the Oval Office, & represents the important contributions of Asian American artists'

Bearing in mind I haven't got an artistic bone in my body, the sculpture sums up for me the state of this Administration at the moment.
Broken. Fallen over. Needs repairing.

Her tweet is 3 pictures of her and just one of the actual sculpture which I'm sure in art circles is wonderful but it is just a photo op for her

From that letter

We have been extremely patient, but we can wait no longer. As GSA Administrator, it is your responsibility to follow the law and assure the safety and well-being of the United States and its people—not to submit to political pressure to violate the law and risk the consequences.

White House officials claim they are not pressing you to block the ascertainment determination and that you have made this determination entirely on your own. White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany declared on national television yesterday, “It is up to the GSA to, what we call, reach ascertainment for an election. They are independent of us and they haven’t declared that just yet

.”If this is accurate, it is critical that you now follow the law and
make the ascertainment designation without any further delay.
For these reasons, we ask that you personally brief us and our Ranking Members by no later than November 23, 2020.

We will then determine whether to hold a hearing with you, Deputy Administrator Allison Brigati, Chief of Staff Robert Borden, and General Counsel Trent J. Benishek, regarding the ascertainment designation.

Good luck with that - sounds like the appeal will be heard at State level, who will also throw it out on same grounds as Judge Brann since Giuliani can only submit the same (nonsense) complaints.
MoonJelly · 22/11/2020 09:34

@BruceAndNosh

McNinny was on Fox and Friends Saturday insisting they are going to the Supreme Court to win by proving systems fraud Don't know why, Trump isn't showing the least bit of interest in being President. He just doesn't want to be an ex President
That'll be interesting, given that they've produced no evidence of fraud so far and they're not allowed to file new evidence in the Supreme Court.

I also thought that Biden should definitely not be asking the American public to help fix this. They have enough on their plates already. Not a professional approach surely?

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 22/11/2020 09:39

Also worth noting that whilst doing everything he can to prevent Biden’s transition, in the middle of A global pandemic, Trump has chosen to go golfing (again) rather than attend the G20 pandemic event. That should be shocking beyond belief and yet there’s so much abhorrent behaviour on a daily basis, we’re numb.

maggiethecat · 22/11/2020 09:41

There is no equivalence between what Trump and Biden are doing. Of course Trump’s supporters will hypocritically have a field day with it.

But that’s a price to pay for jumping straight in and rolling sleeves up. I expect that lives and jobs will be saved by this intervention.

Lweji · 22/11/2020 09:47

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/nov/22/joe-biden-begging-bowl-demeans-the-worlds-most-powerful-post

I agree that it demeans the most powerful post, but in relation to Trump. He's the one withholding funds.

And he's begging for contributions too, but to keep his current position, or simply to profit.

It doesn't put me off Biden at all.
It puts me off Trump even more, if that was possible.

Lweji · 22/11/2020 09:48

@SugarbabyMilly

What do you think he should be doing? Golfing?
Lweji · 22/11/2020 09:53

This entire situation would justify direct elections and a much faster transition of power.

The UK does it virtually overnight.
Here in Portugal it takes about a week or two.
I'm sure it's much faster than the US pretty much everywhere.

The same for the Senate and Congress.

Lame duck presidencies benefit nobody. They just provide opportunities to undermine the newly elected people or bodies.

Anon778833 · 22/11/2020 09:58

Any ideas why Giuliani is happy to have his own reputation shot to pieces in all this?
