Obviously it's not a documentary, but enough truth to reinforce what a poor, poor woman she was and how she never had a chance.

She must have been flattered, he was the most eligible bachelor on the planet at that point.

I’m only a few in but I thought the dig at Andrew about Koo Stark being 17 was brilliant. And so far they are showing him as being an utter twat. Hopefully that will hit the vain, entitled prick where it hurts.

It really didn’t make me feel sorry for her at all. Yes she was young but also spoiled and manipulative.

That's where we differ, I guess.

Is a match for 32 year experienced man, especially one embroiled in a relationship with an entire staff to cover for him?

The relationship he was "embroiled" in was no secret though, her family must have know what they were sending her to, even if she didn't.

She was 20 when they married. People grew up quicker then, most people left school at 16. She didn't seem ridiculously young at the time. She seemed thrilled to bits.

I've never understood the people who viewed Diana as the innocent one in it all. She was childish and naive. She wanted the fairytale and then wasn't happy when the fairytale didn't come true.

None of them have been painted in the best light. I agreed with Margaret though. The RF should have learned to stop meddling. I always thought if Charles had been allowed to marry Camilla in the first place, things would have been very different. She made him happy, always have. The papers always villifying her has always been wrong.

Had she not died I think she would have had a sad but glamorous life moving on from one rich Arab man to another looking for real love.

She was very, very young and married a man she barely knew.

She was clearly dazzled by the prospect of becoming a princess and a queen and didn’t really think through the reality of it.

She must have known about camilla when she married him. Panda she can’t have loved him, she barely knew him.

But he was more at fault. He should have been open with her about he arrangement and what he wanted from her.

Diana wasn't perfect. People seem to hold her in some high regard, as though she wasn't manipulative or a bad mother at times.

In the week or so before her death the papers were full of criticism of her, particularly about her children. Overnight the front pages were changed obviously, to begin the beatification. Private Eye got hold of the original front pages for 31/8/97 and the were an eye-opener.
The character I'm finding interesting is Anne, her accent is amazing, so strangulated, but she also has some of the best lines, especially discussing her brother's marriage with the Queen!

Colycola Koo Stark is 4 years older than Andrew. Haven't seen or wish to see the programme but if she was 17 he would have been 13.

They're all portrayed as being absolutely awful. I think the criticism of Diana is valid but the RF seemed worse.

Was no one shocked at the conversation between the Queen and Prince Andrew about Koo Stark. I can't quite believe they got away with that.

A massive resounding ‘yes’ from me - I am almost 50 and remember the Diana years very well - Charles always looked awkward around her and in the early days, she clearly doted on him.

My daughter and I were discussing the outrageous hypocrisy and serial extra curricular shagging the Royals appeared to have indulged in - I find the fact that Charles married Diana while he was fking Camilla before, during and after the marriage indefensible.

No wonder Harry has done a ‘f
k em’ - imagine how he must view his Dad’s treatment of his Mum - the mind boggles ...

Charles should have either married or left Camilla - He clearly adores her and she him but at the expense of so much.

Missed your post. I was slack jawed, there might even been a sharp intake of breath!

Diana was childish, because she was a child.

And being thrown into that family and that situation, with a much older man, didn't give her an opportunity or the experiences to mature in the way most people mature.

She was only 19/20 when she married Charles who was 32. She was a kid, it's awful now to think about it.

If someone posted in AIBU now that their 19 year old daughter was going to marry a 32 year old man and they were all for it, they'd get their arse handed to them.

She was failed spectacularly by her parents and her family.

Only 4 episodes in but the people that really seem to have not protected her were her family. From the RF point of view they had their expectations of who he should marry and she seemed to fit the bill. Her family however would have been more aware of who she was and that she was out of her depth and pushed her towards him anyway.

I tend to agree. I'm not sure she would ever have found what she was looking for really. And you're right, it would have been tragic to watch I think.

I'm disappointed that the Crown has become more fictionalised from the early episodes but there are some very harsh opinions of Diana on this thread. She was 19 years old when they got engaged, her age at marriage is irrelevant, the wedding was going ahead the moment the engagement was announced. At 19 she had no idea what men could be like. Who can blame her for getting caught up in the princess fantasy at that age. There were much older people involved who knew better and let her walk into a nightmare. Princess or not, if your husband is cheating on you throughout your relationship and never loves you it's a horrific thing to deal with.

Diana was only a teenager when they met and very inexperienced with men. She also had a dreadful childhood, her parents divorcing and her mother not being allowed to have custody. She missed her mum so much and I think this is the reason Charles affair caused her huge mental anguish.

Diana would have stood a chance if Charles had adored and worshipped and loved her totally... He didn't and unfortunately their relationship was simply starting at zero and going back into the negatives as she discovered more and more how deeply in love he was with camila.

I've been in that situation... One comes a a new relationship so naively and fresh when young and then slowly... It becomes apparent that actually he is neck deep with an ex still. Its soul destroying and she was trapped in with the world's press at her and no support.

I think mentioning the age of the character Koo Stark played and the description her role was a reference to Virginia Roberts who was 17 at the time she claims she was trafficked for sex with PA.

I did some reading on Diana after watching the show and whilst I agree the marriage should never have happened I also think had she not died she would not be seen so saintly. In fact she probably would be one of the bad ones.
I do enjoy that they are really painting them all in such a bad light. Makes good entertainment.
