AIBU to spend £84 on takeaway coffees in three weeks?

So I’ve checked my online banking today to add up how much I’ve spent on takeaway coffee since I last got paid.

84 bloody pound

What on earth?

I have been going more due to not having much else to do but Christ that is a serious waste of money.

I was planning to go tomorrow but now I can’t justify it.

Not sure what other things I can treat myself to (that isn’t a massive waste) to keep me going .. any suggestions?

Has anyone else had a bigger waste of money than that lately?

Shock

That’s £4 a day, every day for 3 weeks! Did you go every day? And is a coffee £4?

MeringueCloud · 18/11/2020 21:45

A good thermos flask Smile

berrygirlie · 18/11/2020 21:45

That's £28 a week, £112 a month ish. I suppose it depends how high your income is, it's all relative really.

I spend way too much on snacks Blush

Not very helpful but if you have a Costa near you, you get 30% off your order when you order through their app. I love a takeaway coffee, but I do agree they're a waste of money!

Cheesypea · 18/11/2020 21:47

That's some achievement op. I spent £70 quid on one bag of shopping In waitrose last week. I had to go to lidl the next day because I had nothing in! Tbf it was a big bag. Have you considered a flask!

RishiMcRichface · 18/11/2020 21:48

I don't know, it's a lot of money but coffee is life, so if it was good coffee maybe it was worth it. On the other hand you could buy a nice coffee machine for that much and save money long term.

SheepandCow · 18/11/2020 21:48

If you enjoy treating yourself to a takeaway coffee (as long as you can afford it) tell yourself that you're helping to boost your local economy and keeping coffee shop employees in a job. Brew

berrygirlie · 18/11/2020 21:49

You could get some costa sachets and a thermos, and that would be a better investment?

RJnomore1 · 18/11/2020 21:49

Do you have a pret near you?

OPI nail polishes?

GlummyMcGlummerson · 18/11/2020 21:50

In fairness, if me and kids get a takeaway it's around the £20 so I don't think that's too bad.

I work in a school which is across the road from a Greggs and last year I went most days one month. Does anyone want to guess how much I spent there when I added it up? Blush

Babymamamama · 18/11/2020 21:50

I saw some membership thing from Pret recently whereby you pay a monthly fixed fee for unlimited hot drinks. I did briefly think oooh that's a deal and then remembered oh yes I'm working mostly from home for the foreseeable. But sounds like you could use that OP?

epheeb · 18/11/2020 21:50

You can put 84 quid towards a wicker coffee machine and make them yourself :) I LOVE my nespresso machine, so many different coffee pods to try and all supermarkets stock their own versions, you can get like 8 pods for a couple of quid! Weve also got a milk frother/warmer which was about 30 quid to make frothy coffees. My coffee flask is great, keeps them warm for hours. Something about making your own coffee, you're never disappointed cus you can make it exactly how you like it x

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 18/11/2020 21:50

Put it in a pot and buy a coffee roaster and machine when you have enough

GrumpyHoonMain · 18/11/2020 21:50

It depends if you can afford it. I used to pay £200 a month for my lunches plus £150 on coffee. But it was my only splurge and as I also saved 50% of my income it wasn’t a problem. Life is meant to be enjoyed and if coffee / good food does that for you and it’s not hurting your finances then go for it

Hiphopopotamus · 18/11/2020 21:50

Do you have a Pret near you? They do a coffee subscription - up to five coffees a day for £20 a month! Sounds like you’d get your money’s worth

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 18/11/2020 21:50

Isn't there anything else you'd rather buy with all that money? I spent £470 today on a Tiffany ring. I feel better now seeing as that is only a few months of coffee in your world.

Oysterbabe · 18/11/2020 21:51

If you can afford it I don't see the problem. I don't feel bad for spending money on things I enjoy.

PurpleDaisies · 18/11/2020 21:51

Are you spending it in independent shops? I’d think of it as helping small businesses and stimulating the economy.

nancybotwinbloom · 18/11/2020 21:51

Have you got anything else that would make you just as happy as these coffees on?

If so, buy more of it and fuck the coffees off

If not, we'll treat yourself to all the Christmas versions and make them large Grin

berrygirlie · 18/11/2020 21:52

On the contrary for me, I can't imagine spending that much on one thing though hahaha!

Chailatte20 · 18/11/2020 21:53

£84 x 12 months = £1008

Thay can go towards 2021 holiday fund, you need to buy a flask.

Chailatte20 · 18/11/2020 21:54

That not thay

Ginkypig · 18/11/2020 21:54

It’s a lot of money once it all added up but it’s £4 a day which doesn’t sound as bad, it works out about 1400 a year though which is a holiday or a lovely piece of furniture or something else that you would really love or get use out of.

Can I ask what part you enjoy because if there is a way to replicate the enjoyment but save the money by bringing your own from home?

doritodiva · 18/11/2020 21:55

I'd buy a nice thermos and a coffee machine for at home.
