AIBU to spend £84 on takeaway coffees in three weeks?

So I’ve checked my online banking today to add up how much I’ve spent on takeaway coffee since I last got paid.

84 bloody pound

What on earth?

I have been going more due to not having much else to do but Christ that is a serious waste of money.

I was planning to go tomorrow but now I can’t justify it.

Not sure what other things I can treat myself to (that isn’t a massive waste) to keep me going .. any suggestions?

Has anyone else had a bigger waste of money than that lately?

I've a prêt subscription - well worth it.

Storyoftonight · 18/11/2020 22:19

I honestly don't know where my money goes. Granted I'm not on an amazing wage but it literally goes on food and drink! I feel like all the wee amounts add up.

Tenyearsgone · 18/11/2020 22:19

If you can afford it and enjoy it then carry on.

Laiste · 18/11/2020 22:21

We worked out that if we switch from Domino's to fish and chips for our Sat night take away we'll save over half the monthly cost of my new HP car! So we have Grin

gone right off Domino's anyway since to get any trace of bloody cheese you have to ask for it as an extra topping and the grease level has gone up

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 18/11/2020 22:21

I justvwish i could spend that on coffee but I'm pregnant. Cant stand the stuff just now, usually I live for it.

MajesticWhine · 18/11/2020 22:22

I buy quite a few coffees but you beat me OP. Well done for supporting all those local workers. Smile

sansou · 18/11/2020 22:22

You need one of these
and bulk buy Illy coffee when it's on special offer at the supermarkets.
A cheaper more portable option (which you could keep at work/take on holiday) would be an aeropress

Whatup · 18/11/2020 22:23

Was gonna say pret too first month free apparently

MushMonster · 18/11/2020 22:24

That is quite a lot of money for coffee!
You could buy really nice clothes with that.
Your favourite take away.
Jewlery.
Perfumes.
Quite a lot of things reallySmile

JoeNotExotic · 18/11/2020 22:24

As some others have suggested, if it makes you happy and you can afford it any the hell not?!

We had a similar panic when we totted up how much we were spending eating out but then thought fuck it, we earn decent salaries and we love being out as does our DD so for us it’s worth it. It just means we don’t drive around £30k cars but that’s sacrifice we’re willing to make to spend our money what we love.

Love51 · 18/11/2020 22:27

Are you WFH? Sometimes it is good to get out of the house, so a coffee machine wouldn't cut it.

icecreamcrackers · 18/11/2020 22:27

I obviously charge far to little in my cafe/takeaway. £1 a coffee and £1.50 for latte or cappuccino.

Try a smaller shop to reduce your spend maybe?

Doggybiccys · 18/11/2020 22:27

OP MN is always full of Prosecco/ gin loving mums and I expect your “habit” falls below that and is more healthy - if u can afford it, just do it!

ElBurroSinNombre · 18/11/2020 22:28

Buy one of these;

www.johnlewis.com/bialetti-moka-express-hob-espresso-maker/p1407523?sku=233096444&size=1-cup&s_ppc=2dx92700055668797586&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=Cj0KCQiAqdP9BRDVARIsAGSZ8AlWp0LpEwL0YmxU6_V_hTei9HmErc5io8b0J_fEeddPKcIwXhoqn70aAuY7EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

(or induction hob version if required)
Buy some decent ground coffee (£3-£4 for about 20 cups)
Buy a good milk frother if you want latte or cappucino (£30-£40)

And enjoy great coffee when you want it for pennies per cup

I am not into any of those things and would take a daily favourite coffee any day .....just can’t get the same effect at home
Poppingnostopping · 18/11/2020 22:30

Don't get the Pret deal if you live in a university town and need a coffee after 9 am, the queues of the students getting their money's worth from this deal are epic!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 18/11/2020 22:30

It’s a lot of money and would cover a lovely large purchase or trip.

I didn’t realise coffee shops were open as thought non essential shops were all closed and we were only supposed to go out for essential shopping.

Pippin2028 · 18/11/2020 22:31

We all spend money on something or other, it depends what you enjoy, and considering times are quite grim and restricted, of a coffee makes your day better, and you can afford it, go for it.

BeigeFoodLover · 18/11/2020 22:31

If you enjoy it, do it! Or cut it down to a few days if you need. I take a flask but have a serious wine and gin habit. If I didn’t drink alcohol I’d be loaded and thin.

However, life is short, and if it makes you happy, and doesn’t impact others, go for it! Enjoy!

tenlittlecygnets · 18/11/2020 22:35

And were all those coffees using disposable coffee cups???

DominaShantotto · 18/11/2020 22:37

....and here we go. The faux-disbelief that anything other than "ye olde shoppe of utter misery" is open - takeaways are allowed - said that all along on all the announcements and you knew this - you just wanted a dig.

OP if you can afford it and it's making you happy and bringing you a bit of joy in these shitty times - go for it.

For all the "oooh buy a coffee machine" - it's still not the same as a nice takeaway coffee when you get the whole change of scenery from going to get it and everything else.

rosegoldivy · 18/11/2020 22:37

Know what OP, if you can afford it and you like the coffee then fuck it, who cares, enjoy yourself. Get yourself a cake next time your in too. This year's been shit enough without giving up a daily coffee fix.

(Plus it's no time to kick the habit now, all the Xmas coffees and lattes are out)

PurpleDaisies · 18/11/2020 22:37

Coffee is essential as my workmates will tell you.

Food and drink businesses are allowed to open for take away.

pinkearedcow · 18/11/2020 22:38

Yes, it's a lot of money, but if you can afford it and it makes you happy, then what's the problem?

But why are those things better than having a daily treat?
