Positive Covid test but we have no food in!

ViralVera · 15/11/2020 00:15

I got a text at 10pm tonight to say the DS is positive for CV. He hasn’t really had symptoms but THREE members at his SN college tested positive earlier this week so he was sent home to isolate and I wanted to make sure as DH is a keyworker. I really didn’t think it would be positive.

I’m bloody furious that staff have passed it onto vulnerable students. DS is classed as CEV so has been taught to be very good with hygiene but the staff haven’t been wearing masks, and didn’t seem to adhering to 2m social distancing at his induction session, but that’s another thread.

This means the whole household needs to isolate from now obviously but we are a family of 6 (adults) and get through a LOT of food so I shop every 2/3 days. The next big shop was due to be tomorrow!

The earliest online delivery I can get is for Wednesday and we literally only have milk, eggs, chips, meat and rice/pasta but not enough for 4 days. No squash/bread/cereal/yoghurts/fruit/veg etc.

There is literally no one local we can ask. DH’s brother lives an hour away but his family also has Covid (not from us as we haven’t seen them for months).

It’ll be a lot of shopping for a volunteer to get, if I can find one.

I’ve booked the other 5 of us for a drive in tests tomorrow so I was thinking about me and DH double masking and scooting round Tesco chucking stuff in trolleys as quickly as possible straight afterwards.

Should we? If we have it tomorrow, we had it today too!

@bearfood

As a teacher who has had Covid very recently it actually makes me sad that you're 'fucking raging'. It's a pandemic, it happens, staff member May have been tested for basically the same reasons you tested your kid...been in contact, no symptoms but is a key worker so wanted to be sure. No one deliberately goes around infecting the vulnerable...oh, wait...except people living with a confirmed case who 'scoot round Tesco'. Your hypocrisy is laughable.
^ yes this.

Especially ‘No one deliberately goes around infecting the vulnerable...oh, wait...except people living with a confirmed case who 'scoot round Tesco'. Your hypocrisy is laughable‘

GabsAlot · 15/11/2020 11:05

god forbid you dont have squash and ypghurt for 3 days

you shouldnt all be getting tested either-its for people with symptoms so you lied to get them

and you still have to isolate either way

Greenglassteacup · 15/11/2020 11:06

Op doesn’t care, she’s at the shops

ancientgran · 15/11/2020 11:08

You have no idea who your son caught covid from. If he is in a college it is perfectly possible that an asymptomatic student has given it to staff and other students.

You are being very hypocritical to rage about staff in the college and yet be quite happy to go out and potentially spread it yourself.

sashh · 15/11/2020 11:09

Another vote for iceland, I have had next day deliveries all through lockdown.

Deliveroo is expensive but you can get the basics.

Get a take away delivered for tonight and contact your local council, many are wither doing food parcels or working with agencies that do.

Do you have a local corner shop? They can be very good, my elderly grandmother just phoned the corner shop the owner would send his children round with bread or milk.

I feel like I 'm always saying this, I'm in Wolverhampton, the city council have made meals on wheels available to anyone in the area, and some areas just outside. It's not a cheap option (£5.20 per day) and it is not restaurant quality but is perfectly edible. OP your council may do similar or may extend the service for people isolating, it's worth asking.

Rainingagaininseattle · 15/11/2020 11:10

You can get a next day morrison food box www.morrisons.com/food-boxes/box/5-meals-to-feed-a-family-of-4-box
We've just ordered one for tomorrow and had them during the last lockdown, they're very good.

Goldensnitchy · 15/11/2020 11:10

CEV people shouldn’t be going to work or school/college if they’re following the guidelines anyway.....

Mittens030869 · 15/11/2020 11:11

This is one time when I’m sincerely hoping that the OP is a troll.

nosswith · 15/11/2020 11:11

I am saddened that there are 8% of respondents who think going to Tescos as the OP suggests is reasonable. The OP could have spent today finding out the options of those who could deliver something to her tomorrow that would ensure food on the table for a couple of days. In addition to Deliveroo, Just Eat and all the others that are available.

Butmiss · 15/11/2020 11:13

What a selfish cow you are. How dare you be 'raging' at school staff? Yet you're deliberately planning to put other people at risk, ignoring all the sensible options you have been given here!
Pathetic.

Joswis · 15/11/2020 11:14

Asda click and collect available in an hour.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 15/11/2020 11:14

I didn't even vote🙈 It's just so unreasonable

So the OP doesn't think the law applies to her. Of course she is 100% sure her son caught it at college and her 3 time visits a week to a supermarket and the possibility she is an asymptomatic positive herself wouldn't dare be entertained by herself! Though what i am struugling with is why people are shocked this family have no friends.

timeforanewstart · 15/11/2020 11:17

Your raging about the staff but considering going to tesco on your way for a test ?? Beggars belief

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 15/11/2020 11:19

Sorry op but you do yourself no favours 9n this thread, blaming teachers and wanting to go to Tesco. There are multiple other ways to get food Hmm It's nobodies fault your son got a contagious virus during a PandemicConfused

Too many acronyms! I don't know what 'SN' or 'CEV' mean.

Sirzy · 15/11/2020 11:22

Even if it is a troll it still means that there are approximately 80 people on this thread who have voted that it’s fine to go into a supermarket knowing you are quite possibly carrying a deadly virus

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/11/2020 11:22

Surprised that this is still here.

CV = coronavirus DD = darling son SN = special needs CEV = clinically extremely vulnerable

HTH

Special needs and clinically extremely vulnerable (and if he is still in the later group then during this lockdown he isn’t supposed to be in college anyway)
Strictly1 · 15/11/2020 11:27

Teachers are not meant to teach in masks - they have not broken any rules. Unlike you, who is testing five people with no symptoms and talking about shopping when meant to be isolating. I am raging at idiots like you who are putting others at risk. Shame on you!

buttonmoonb4tea · 15/11/2020 11:27

Is this a piss take?

ric12 · 15/11/2020 11:27

Thanks for elucidating.

MissMarplesGlove · 15/11/2020 11:30

I’m bloody furious that staff have passed it onto vulnerable students

You are TOTALLY unreasonable to say this. You do realise teachers have been fucking hung out to dry by this incompetent government.

Teachers were told to go back to the schools & colleges without

  • social distancing
  • ability to require students to wear masks

Even heavily pregnant teachers and those with underlying conditions are required to teach in crowded classrooms. Or lose their jobs. Teaching children & young people whose parents may not be being responsible. Teachers are the ones taking on the consequences of other people's risk taking.

Get an online delivery, and in future plan to ensure that you have food cupboard staples. Your lack of planning is not anyone else's responsibility.
