Positive Covid test but we have no food in!

ViralVera · 15/11/2020 00:15

I got a text at 10pm tonight to say the DS is positive for CV. He hasn’t really had symptoms but THREE members at his SN college tested positive earlier this week so he was sent home to isolate and I wanted to make sure as DH is a keyworker. I really didn’t think it would be positive.

I’m bloody furious that staff have passed it onto vulnerable students. DS is classed as CEV so has been taught to be very good with hygiene but the staff haven’t been wearing masks, and didn’t seem to adhering to 2m social distancing at his induction session, but that’s another thread.

This means the whole household needs to isolate from now obviously but we are a family of 6 (adults) and get through a LOT of food so I shop every 2/3 days. The next big shop was due to be tomorrow!

The earliest online delivery I can get is for Wednesday and we literally only have milk, eggs, chips, meat and rice/pasta but not enough for 4 days. No squash/bread/cereal/yoghurts/fruit/veg etc.

There is literally no one local we can ask. DH’s brother lives an hour away but his family also has Covid (not from us as we haven’t seen them for months).

It’ll be a lot of shopping for a volunteer to get, if I can find one.

I’ve booked the other 5 of us for a drive in tests tomorrow so I was thinking about me and DH double masking and scooting round Tesco chucking stuff in trolleys as quickly as possible straight afterwards.

Should we? If we have it tomorrow, we had it today too!

It doesn't matter where people get it it's going to happen if they don't and can't isolate

You shouldn't be going anywhere as you could be a carrier- 10-14 days time you could come out with it so I don't know why you're all getting tested. You'll all have to isolate from then again if you get symptoms.

The irony that you're moaning others have it but you want to quickly pop into tesco is unreal

WhoseThatGirl · 15/11/2020 07:43

Co-op usually deliver within a couple of hours.

Sleazeyjet · 15/11/2020 07:44

There must be a local shop within a mile or two. Not a big supermarket but a local corner shop.

I live rurally and all the local shops have been doing delivery since this started. They might charge you a fiver, but they will do it.

I don’t understand why you haven’t thought of this?

MaryBerrysChutney · 15/11/2020 07:44

wow. This is so irresponsible! You'd rather risk infecting others than post on FaceBook for help? I don't understand people like this.

Elmo230885 · 15/11/2020 07:45

So a household of 6 adults doesn't have a single friend or a parent of a friend that would bring one bag of basic supplies?

You are blaming school staff and having a go at them but you feel it's ok for you to scoot round Tesco. In fact not just you, you and your husband. Two people that it's pretty much a given will have/be carrying COVID. The school staff probably caught it in Tesco from someone like you playing fast and loose with the rules whilst they were trying to feed their families.

butterpuffed · 15/11/2020 07:48

Too early to scroll the whole thread so it may have been mentioned ~ do you have a neighbourhood group, there are several hundred in the uk, they're called nextdoor, online communities for information and if you need help with meds, food collection and delivery etc. they have volunteers. Google them.

Lines open between 8-8 they are available so that you don't have to leave the house.

Can shop for all essentials and keep you going until your shopping slot on Wednesday.

Haven't read all thread. Apologies if someone has already posted these details.

Mrspopper · 15/11/2020 07:49

Wow. Have a go at staff at school (you sound like a charmer by the way) but happily spread covid around Tesco.... NICE.

Bramblespoint · 15/11/2020 07:50

When your DS was tested why didn't you prepare? So selfish. Please don't 'scoot round' Tesco Shock

Can't believe you are blaming the school staff either - it's most likely they got it from a student in the first place.

DO NOT go for testing it's such a waste, none of you have symptoms and you all have to isolate for 14 days regardless of results

Nat6999 · 15/11/2020 07:51

Ocado have slots for today in my area, look for slots later at night or first thing in the morning. Ring Sainsbury's customer service & get on their vulnerable list. Other than that could one of you go out early in the morning or late to a 24 hour Tesco? They are generally dead at that time & you won't be putting anyone at risk, just keep away from staff & do the zap as you shop.

merrygoround51 · 15/11/2020 07:51

You seem to be saying you will do what you want anyway and are happy to risk infecting others, so I’m not going to even suggest what is clearly right.

However don’t pretend the only option is running around Tesco. There are takeaways, small shops that if you call directly will deliver, local groups set up for this very purpose etc
You could all manage.

Marshy86 · 15/11/2020 07:52

You shouldn't get a test firstly, it could come back negative but you still develop symptoms a few days later. Only get tests when symptoms appear. Secondly you should not go to Tesco's it's extremely selfish to put others at risk and the double masks won't do a thing if you are positive. Just find a delivery it doesn't have to be Tesco's and stay at home. Why are people finding it so hard to do as they're told ? And understand simple guidelines??

Sunflowergirl1 · 15/11/2020 07:53

@ViralVera

Can I ask how you managed to get a test. Our school liaise with Public Health England and when kids are sent home to isolate they are told they are not able to be tested, unless they start exhibiting symptoms?

SimonJT · 15/11/2020 07:54

Ah I see, so you don’t like people passing on covid but you’re happy for yourself and your husband to do exactly that.

KitKatastrophe · 15/11/2020 07:55

@ViralVera

No click and collects available either.

Bit of a coincidence that 3 staff members test positive then DS gets it isn’t it Cookie? None of the rest of us have had symptoms. They are in his ‘bubble’. One of them for definite was in college on Monday, then got a positive test on Tuesday. I am fucking raging.

You're furious that staff may have passed covid to your son, yet you're happy to goo round Tesco having been exposed and potentially infect others.
MollieMaeve · 15/11/2020 07:55

Seriously. Do not go to Tesco. You are ‘raging’ at the school but willing to put many more people at risk? You can wear as many mask as you want, you will still transmit the virus if you are carrying it.

At work I am seeing people dying alone of Covid. Parents who can’t be with their sick children because they are self isolating.

Please don’t be selfish. Stay at home.

LondonlovesLola · 15/11/2020 07:56

The reason I’m raging at the college is why at least one of the staff members was in college the DAY BEFORE (Monday) we were notified there were positive tests (Tuesday)? That person is DS’s support worker. Tests take at least 24 hours to come back don’t they?

No they don’t always take 24 hours.
In certain settings/ areas test results come back the same day.
HTH

This

maverickallthetime · 15/11/2020 07:57

@Tarararara that's exactly what I came on to say. Surely you can ask one of the parents to pop and get you a few bits. My daughters are at high school and if they told me about a friend in that situation with parents I didn't know I'd go out and grab a few bits.

You have some food so it wouldn't need to be huge would it?

They lied! You are asked if you have symptoms and told you can’t have one if you don’t, key worker or not!

Still, if they’re caught, hopefully they’ll have the book thrown at them, given they’ve declared they have symptoms on a government form and will be trotting around a supermarket with said symptoms!

Fuckitsstillraining · 15/11/2020 07:58

I think your attitude stinks, you are being entitled and obnoxious tbh. It's not like me to say that to someone but your posts have really pissed me off. Your son is CEV but attending college, I know he's SN but you made the decision to take the risk and its backfired and now you're lashing out. Considering there are 6 of you to feed and you have been aware of the risks that one of you might catch the virus you should have made arrangements for someone to shop for you if needed, I'm in a rural area with no neighbours that I'm close to but the one I do know a little is going to shop for me if necessary and vice versa. The thought that you are considering going to Tesco and doing a shop is horrifying, the thought that your husband is willing to do the same is even worse because it means two adults think going without unnecessary food items for a few days (while you have the basics) is such a hardship you are both willing to take the chance of spreading the virus even further. Cop on, stay at home, if you go out some other mother may be on here in a weeks time saying 'my SN son only came to Tescos with me but now he's got covid even though we were careful', it's a very contagious virus, please stay at home.

PurpleDaisies · 15/11/2020 07:58

It’s easy. You go on the test booking website and lie about having a cough. That really isn’t acceptable.

It’s hard to believe anyone can be so selfish and hypocritical in their behaviour. It’s almost as if the op wanted to get everyone riled up against her.

MollyButton · 15/11/2020 07:59

Okay you could try:
Deliveroo - do some groceries mainly co op and M and S
Talk to your neighbours - we now have a street WhatsApp group for exactly this kind of thing
Talk to anyone else you know local.
Find your local Facebook group and ask there.
Our local council has a helpline who will help people in exactly this situation.

And if there was no way anyone could help you - then maybe Click and Collect with masks, and lots of sanitising.

Aridane · 15/11/2020 07:59

@TheFlis12345

You are furious that college staff passed it on to your son but want to go to a busy supermarket knowing you may well be infected? Really?
Quite

And I would definitely report someone who did this. Other posters have given good options.
