That's all.

As you were.

OP posts:
Feministicon · 15/11/2020 18:47

I went to a display that used lasers instead of fireworks once, I enjoyed it more as I hate loud noises.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/11/2020 18:55

It’s not natural for them to be in zoos, at least they’d be living and dying the way nature intended

No, it's not natural, but at least they are living, listed of dying when their natural habitats are destroyed or because they are hunted and poached.

TheDowagerDuchess · 15/11/2020 18:58

Was going to come and say the same as the first few posters.

It’s Diwali. There are meant to be fireworks. Don’t be so little Englander.

No, it's not natural, but at least they are living, listed of dying when their natural habitats are destroyed or because they are hunted and poached.

So those are the options then, live imprisoned in a country that bears no relation to your habitat or be hunted/poached. Both man made issues, both wrong and need to be stamped out. A cage however gilded is a cage.
TheDowagerDuchess · 15/11/2020 19:00

I’d be on the side of organised displays only, but not this year as there aren’t any. Diwali trumps Guy Fawkes though surely?

I do think some fireworks are exceptionally bangy these days so maybe that could be looked at too.

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 15/11/2020 19:01

I just wait to point out again, that Noah's ark zoo farm already has a poor animal welfare history. It is a creationist zoo, with some pretty animals to try to "educate" about how the earth was made 7000 years ago.

So I take their version of events leading up to the poor zebras death with a huge pinch of salt.

Quaversplease · 15/11/2020 19:34

@TheDowagerDuchess Yes it's Diwali and that is fine but 6pm to 2am? It's not necessary and not fair. My dog has had the maximum sedation over the last few days and is still shaking and dribbling.

Flushii · 15/11/2020 19:37

I’m with you OP, they haven’t stopped since the week before bonfire night. I have a nearly 3 year old, nearly 1 year old, 2 cats and a dog, it causes absolute havoc in my house. I wish they were banned

TheDowagerDuchess · 15/11/2020 20:29

I believe that Diwali is one of only two occasions when fireworks can legally go off after midnight - together with new year.

woodhill · 15/11/2020 20:33

Let's hope that this doesn't mean every night though particularly tonight, not on

Misandrylovescompany · 15/11/2020 20:33

Yanbu. Fuck Halloween, fuck bonfire night, fuck any other festival that involves terrorising small animals for human pleasure. Officially organised displays are just about understandable as a compromise but if you’re someone who lets off fireworks in your own garden then fuck you.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 15/11/2020 20:35

@BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache
You're totally right. The whole zebra story doesn't add up. The displays they were complaining about were organised and they had forewarning. Why the hell weren't the animals secure?
I think they're deflecting from yet another animal death in their care. Extremely dodgy place.

cyclingmad · 15/11/2020 20:55

To be honest its been hell of lot quieter then other years. Nowhere near the amount of fireworks being let off.

Marge1050 · 15/11/2020 21:34

Hi, I just want to clarify the law surrounding letting off fireworks.

They are legal to be set off in your home between 7a.m-11pm.- any time of year.
The law extends this to 12am on bonfire night.
It also extends it to 1a.m. on diwali.

Therefore any fireworks AFTER 01.00 am are illegal.

WanderingMilly · 15/11/2020 21:38

How unreasonable...you, I mean. I LOVE fireworks, you can let them off on my patch every single night if you wish....
And don't you dare ban private firework parties!

Feministicon · 15/11/2020 21:41

I don’t think the OP has the power to ban them Grin

LastTrainEast · 15/11/2020 21:48

"Diwali trumps Guy Fawkes though surely? " why on earth would it?

Guy Fawkes is part of our culture.

Feministicon · 15/11/2020 21:58

I think because it’s a tradition rather than a religious festival, It would only be equivalent if fireworks were a major part of Easter or Christmas ifyswim.

LastTrainEast · 15/11/2020 22:28

Well religion is arguably less important as it is fictional.

I understand that the Chinese have a tradition of celebrating the new year with fireworks. I doubt Christians visiting China would make any friends dismissing the Chinese tradition as unimportant compared to their religious festivals.

Feministicon · 15/11/2020 22:33

The Chinese New Year celebrations have strong religious underpinnings. I’m not a believer either but to say it’s fictional when that is an opinion rather than fact is dodgy ground. In any event fireworks weren’t banned on bonfire night so it’s all a bit moot really.

LizaE · 15/11/2020 23:14

Why did we have tons of threads slating fireworks and moaning about them over the last few weeks but now its diwali, it's all ok and dismissed as if no complaining should take place?

Bwlch · 15/11/2020 23:15

Well religion is arguably less important as it is fictional.

It is quite easy to prove that religion exists. In many forms.

movingonup20 · 15/11/2020 23:15

It's Diwali!

movingonup20 · 15/11/2020 23:17

@StuckOnTheM1

Diwali is actually 4 days

NorthAndSouthern · 16/11/2020 00:06

@PizzaForOne

At least this festival is clearly one night only whereas Brits spent a whole week either side of Bonfire night letting off rockets
Hindus are Brits as well.

Or do you not see them as such as they aren’t white?
