That's all.

As you were.

OP posts:
Ketrina · 15/11/2020 10:06

It being Diwali doesn't matter. Neither does Guy Fawke's Night matter. Fireworks should be the silent type or fucking banned.

Ketrina · 15/11/2020 10:10

Pets are my lifestyle choice just as letting off fireworks once a year is theirs.

It's not just about pets, it's also wild animals, oh and people with sensory sensitivity, some people with autism etc.

nosswith · 15/11/2020 10:31

This should have been one of the few designated days. Not three weeks continuous as some have noted.

User346514823633 · 15/11/2020 10:39

I really do not begrudge Diwali celebrations and understand that there will be fireworks. However our next door neighbours decided to have the loudest fireworks ever (maybe just seemed that way because they’re right next door) at about 9:30pm last night, which left us dealing with 2 scared dogs and a crying baby who was woken up... so a little heads up may have been nice at least.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 15/11/2020 11:40

If one more person says ‘It’s Diwali’ like this is new information I’ll go on a killing spree. It’s pathetic.

I enjoy fireworks, but I woke at 3.20am and they were still going off. Cultural sensitivity can go hang at that time, frankly.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 15/11/2020 11:48

Why is the UK so pathetically allowing anyone to celebrate any old crap so freely

To describe Diwali as ‘any old crap’ is very rude.

Fair enough that people don’t like fireworks. Fair enough that people get fed up with the trad bonfire night celebration of burning a catholic to death spreads out over weeks of bangs.

Not fair enough to describe a central religious / spiritual festival as any old crap.

sst1234 · 15/11/2020 12:08

Are you still moaning about fireworks? Get over it.

AlwaysLatte · 15/11/2020 12:14

We enjoyed seeing some last night. I don't mind them on Diwali and 5th November.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/11/2020 12:17

Am I the only person on mumsnet who actually loves fireworks. Thought my two cats are completely unbothered by them.

Witchend · 15/11/2020 12:24

The army are currently letting off explosives not to far away from here. It's been going on since this morning.
There isn't even any pretty lights to watch. Not fair.

StCharlotte · 15/11/2020 12:31

No, I love them.

Last night here there was only one lot which went for about non stop for about five minutes. They were quite impressive but they were bloody loud.

Cat strolled in shortly afterwards completely unfussed.

I do agree that they really shouldn't be sold to the public though. Or at least only the "silent' ones.

EvilPea · 15/11/2020 12:37

Round our way they went on 6-1am constantly

You are not being unreasonable op

woodhill · 15/11/2020 12:45

@saraclara

Muslims had to do without their Eid celebrations (with just avfew hours notice). Hindus are having to do without Diwali celebrations. Let them have their fireworks FFS.

BJ is at least trying to save our Christmas for us. But if we have the same bad fortune as those other two groups and can't see anyone outside our household, we'll be wanting to try to make the most of a miserable situation too.

But it's not a few fireworks, they go on and on and I suspect it won't be for the weekend

Fireworks are expensive

Why not light some candles

Where are they bought from as DH could not see any promoted in the Tesco this year.

iswhois · 15/11/2020 12:47

I don't care what it's for but people setting them off past 10pm (as they were last night and for the past week) if fucking anti social and selfish

I can't stand them

One flew into a van over the road a week ago and caused the whole thing to explode.

I think it's ridiculous that we sell explosives to the general public

SimonJT · 15/11/2020 12:52

Surely being surprised about Diwali fireworks is a bit surprising in itself.

We know there will be fireworks on Diwali, so if you don’t like them you know to prepare for that evening etc.

Loveable1 · 15/11/2020 12:55

So fed up of seeing people complain about fireworks on every social media platformAngry
This isn’t a new thing, fireworks have been around for many years! They always start roughly October then go on to at least mid November maybe a few days more. As long as people are being sensible and doing them at appropriate times ie not midnight then I can’t see the problem.

I am a animal owner as well before anyone jumps at me by saying I don’t realise what it does to the animals.

woodhill · 15/11/2020 12:59

But why does it have to be so many evenings and then going on too late. Will it be like that tonight?

roarfeckingroarr · 15/11/2020 13:00

Ah, I had no idea it was Diwali. I love fireworks and took baby DS out for a walk to see them last night. Lovely.

EternalOptimist7 · 15/11/2020 13:08

My opinion has changed since getting our bunnies, as rabbits can die of fright. And the fireworks you can buy have got so much more powerful. Some of the ones we sell at work are enormous! Another vote for organised displays only

catchabreak2020 · 15/11/2020 13:23

Last nights fireworks were way more excessive than for bonfire night (well basically week) round where I live. It was literally constant bangs from 5pm until nearly midnight. It did not go on that late before nor was it as constant. At least it will only be for one night as opposed to a week though but regardless of it being Diwali it’s just selfish and inconsiderate.

Strokethefurrywall · 15/11/2020 14:38

Really liberal use of the term "war zone" on this thread

Exactly this. Get a grip people.

MoonElk · 15/11/2020 15:08

We know there will be fireworks on Diwali, so if you don’t like them you know to prepare for that evening etc.

How do you prepare rabbits that can die of fright from them, or a child with sensory issues that keeps banging their head against objects and screaming about them?

Just because some people want to see some stupid pretty lights in the sky. They need to be silent. It's not the noise them makes them special, right...

Rabbits should be kept indoors anyway not in cruel outdoor hutches, this reduces the noise levels significantly.

No mention of how it affects those with sensory issues though. Silent or none.

thecatneuterer · 15/11/2020 15:54

@CathyorClaire

War zone round here. One lot stops and the next starts up and it goes on until Januaty 1st +.

I don't care if it's Bonfire night, Diwali, Christmas or New Year. The whole fucking unregulated lot can fuck off. Properly organised displays only.

Totally agree.
