That's all.

As you were.

OP posts:

@Ketrina

It being Diwali doesn't matter. Neither does Guy Fawke's Night matter. Fireworks should be the silent type or fucking banned.
Agree fireworks are about as much fun as going to the dentist. So fuck the religious reasons Never mind it scares the bejesus out of pets and me just randomly going off . They are fucking anti social and its being going on for weeks now at all hours .
Quaversplease · 15/11/2020 17:02

I realise it's Diwali and people want fireworks but from 6pm to 2am is ridiculous and unfair. My dog spent 8 hours shaking in fear and dribbling despite taking calming tablets daily for the last few weeks.
At 11pm, someone let off a firework that can only have been meant for a display. We actually thought a bomb had gone off and the windows shook. I don't care what religion you are or why you are celebrating, that's unreasonable.

MissCadoganTate · 15/11/2020 17:08

They ended at 5am here and were continuous throughout the night. I personally hate fireworks and see them as a waste of money but I appreciate that others love them. Let them off, have fun but maybe stop at 10pm.

woodhill · 15/11/2020 17:16

All starting up again. haven't they run out of fireworks by nowConfused

EvilPea · 15/11/2020 17:24

Ours have started up again as well.

I cannot understand how they are still legal for homes.

HuggedTheRedwoods · 15/11/2020 17:37

I hear you. Just ramping up for another night here too. Poor cat came flying in and now trembling behind the sofa Angry. Been going on since October (even earlier some years) and will be happening most nights until early January. Can't count the number of petitions calling for regulation I've signed over the years but nothing ever changes.

Feministicon · 15/11/2020 17:49

@woodhill

It is a bit excessive though going on and on. When it was Guy Fawkes we were encouraged not to have private fireworks in gardens.
Bonfire night is NOT a religious festival 😂
Feministicon · 15/11/2020 17:51

@nimbuscloud

Bristols Noah’s Ark Zoo farm I meant to say She was named Hope
Just another reason animal’s shouldn’t be imprisoned in zoos and kept in their natural habitats.
woodhill · 15/11/2020 17:51

It's a tradition in the UK though which has its origins in the 1600s so I'm not buying that argument

Feministicon · 15/11/2020 17:52

@Essoterical

Sick and fucking tired of fireworks randomly going off, don't give a shit for the reason why.

Eastern Europeans have the right idea, e.g in Romania they are permitted on one or two nights a year, at other times only with a special licence otherwise the police will enforce. Why is the UK so pathetically allowing anyone to celebrate any old crap so freely?

Any old crap!

😂😂😂😂 I cant even with you
woodhill · 15/11/2020 17:56

Ok😊

But there is a lack of consideration going on with this religious festival.

As I said upthread light some candles instead to represent the light and tone down the fireworks,

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/11/2020 17:58

The bloody things went on well after midnight, hours after midnight.

I don't care what it is someone is celebrating by now, Guy Fawkes, NY, Diwali or someone nuptials or firstborn, it's getting ridiculous.

Make it stop.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/11/2020 17:59

Just another reason animal’s shouldn’t be imprisoned in zoos and kept in their natural habitats

Oh yes, because their natural habitats are all fine and dandy.

Bwlch · 15/11/2020 18:06

Bonfire night is NOT a religious festival

I'm pretty sure it has it's roots in the triumph of Protestantism over Catholicism.

Bwlch · 15/11/2020 18:08

its roots

It’s not natural for them to be in zoos, at least they’d be living and dying the way nature intended.
Feministicon · 15/11/2020 18:12

Still not a religious festival.

Feministicon · 15/11/2020 18:13

I believe there was an extension to 1am from the usual 11pm cut off point.

woodhill · 15/11/2020 18:26

Even if it isn't a religious festival, it is a tradition in the UK.

These constant noisy fireworks aren't exactly spreading peace and love

Kizziebel · 15/11/2020 18:27

I was surprised about the lack of fireworks in my area for Guy Fawkes night but it has sounded like Basra outside for the last 2 nights (local population far more likely to celebrate Diwali than 5th November) I do however admire their commitment, last night it was sheeting sideways rain and high winds and the fireworks were plenty, there also seems to be more this year but I'm assuming that as households aren't mixing each have got their own supply rather than one household doing the hosting.

I'm not going to complain though, this year has been terrible for most (and disproportionally for people of south asian descent) and anything thing that gives a little joy is fine by me.

user1471538283 · 15/11/2020 18:29

We've had nearly 4 weeks of them and I am sick of them all. I only believe in displays anyway but in the middle of a pandemic its yet more selfish behaviour. The emergency services have enough to do without all this.

Feministicon · 15/11/2020 18:31

@woodhill

I just think it’s not a fair comparison but agree Fireworks are a pain in the bum and really not great for the environment.
lynsey91 · 15/11/2020 18:43

Mainly idiots with more money than sense that buy them and then let them off early when it is still daylight and late (after midnight quite often).

How on earth do people get pleasure in fireworks that sound like bombs going off? Yes they do sound like bombs (I have heard a bomb going off) and they rattle windows.

They cause upset and even terror. They cause injuries and even deaths.

It's not just cats and dogs. It's wild animals, sheep, cows, horses, pigs, donkeys etc. It is old people, people with dementia, people with ptsd, babies, some children.

Awful things should have been banned years ago

HowManyToes · 15/11/2020 18:43

I'm with you OP. Every night for fucking weeks. We've had to give the dog anxiety pills on more evenings this year than ever before. He's on his second fucking packet.

I don't care what anyone says, if you live in a built up area and you're setting off fireworks in your garden near other people's homes then you're a dick.
