That's all.

As you were.

OP posts:

I'm not usually a moaner but we have had fireworks every night for about 3 weeks now. I can still hear them and it's almost 10pm.

Wnikat · 14/11/2020 21:54

I thank this thread for telling me it’s Diwali, I will be a much less grumpy fucker about them now.

DoyouthinkIcare · 14/11/2020 21:56

Round here they started with Clap for Carers and have never really stopped. They happen somewhere nearby at least twice a week although for past 3 weeks it has been every night. Can't work out why but they seem to be either at 8 pm or 11.30 pm, rarely in between.

adagio · 14/11/2020 22:01

I thought Diwali was 3 or 4 days either side of today (14/11/20) as there are like different gods/goddesses each day, although today is the main day fir must celebrants (different branches of religious bits major on different days through the celebration).
Clearly, I may not gave paid quite enough attention to the helpful summary on this I received from my Hindu colleagues last week Grin
Happy Diwali!

lilmishap · 14/11/2020 22:09

There aren't a lot of organised Diwali displays outside of certain areas even when there isn't a pandemic.

Can't you just take some miserly solace from the fact it's a shit Diwali for a lot of people?

Covid has not been kind to those celebrating it meaning many are NOT celebrating due to a Death this year but will still be listening/looking for the fireworks and those who haven't lost anyone are ALSO not with family and friends or getting dressed up and going out so they're stuck with not a lot BUT the fireworks.

Begrudging people trying to make the best of it is petty, the fireworks will mean the world to a lot of people tonight.

woodhill · 14/11/2020 22:11

It is a bit excessive though going on and on. When it was Guy Fawkes we were encouraged not to have private fireworks in gardens.

IHateCoronavirus · 14/11/2020 22:22

Happy Diwali 🕯

Stopitwiththefireworks · 14/11/2020 22:24

I agree OP
It’s been every night for weeks here

Arthersleep · 14/11/2020 22:25

It's Diwali. Fireworks bring much joy to celebrations for some. As a pet owner I see my pets welfare as my own responsibility. I wouldn't have the audacity to tell somebody that they were selfish for wanting to enjoy fireworks because it could affect my pets. That would be selfish of me. Pets are my lifestyle choice just as letting off fireworks once a year is theirs. Both can bring happiness to an individual. Both can cause annoyance! I.e. some people let off massive fireworks in very built up areas. Some dog owners let their dogs crap all over the pavements and bark outside. There should be a bit more tolerance all round. I would like to see more organized displays,

and quieter ones in residential areas, but they seem to be in decline and often cancelled due to the weather. And with Covid, that's obviously not an option.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 14/11/2020 22:32

Fucking fireworks sounds painful and potentially fatal. Probably best to stick to stuffing your face with mithai to mark Diwali 😉

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 14/11/2020 22:34

Diwali is a more legit reason for fireworks that a failed coup ~400 years ago

woodhill · 14/11/2020 22:36

Are you joking😕

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 14/11/2020 22:36

(PS - I hate fireworks anyway)

woodhill · 14/11/2020 22:39

I'm not mad keen either. They should stop now after 2230. I think that is when it gets annoying and inconsiderate in a suburban area

HahaFunnyNumber · 14/11/2020 22:40

I understand OP. There've been fireworks going off here since the week before Halloween and I know they'll be here nightly until a week after NYE. I have PTSD that is triggered by them so I know how hard it is to cope.

nimbuscloud · 14/11/2020 22:44

A zebra foal who was born in March died last week in Bristol zoo after being terrified by fireworks.

saraclara · 14/11/2020 22:45

Muslims had to do without their Eid celebrations (with just avfew hours notice). Hindus are having to do without Diwali celebrations. Let them have their fireworks FFS.

BJ is at least trying to save our Christmas for us. But if we have the same bad fortune as those other two groups and can't see anyone outside our household, we'll be wanting to try to make the most of a miserable situation too.

nimbuscloud · 14/11/2020 22:45

Bristols Noah’s Ark Zoo farm I meant to say
She was named Hope

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 14/11/2020 22:47

That zoo isn't known for its animal safety record, unfortunately :(

Essoterical · 15/11/2020 05:52

Sick and fucking tired of fireworks randomly going off, don't give a shit for the reason why.

Eastern Europeans have the right idea, e.g in Romania they are permitted on one or two nights a year, at other times only with a special licence otherwise the police will enforce. Why is the UK so pathetically allowing anyone to celebrate any old crap so freely?

strawberrysplit2 · 15/11/2020 06:06

🙄

B1rdinthebush · 15/11/2020 09:16

Really liberal use of the term "war zone" on this thread Confused

MadisonAvenue · 15/11/2020 09:27

I’m so sick of them and feel so sorry for my poor terrified dog.
We’ve had them almost nightly since the middle of October. We had two nights of peace this week, Tuesday and Wednesday, and then they started again for presumably Diwali (although they’ve been earlier and quieter).

I suppose that at least with Clap for Carers we knew that they’d be going off at 8pm on a Thursday so could prepare.

JaJaDingDong · 15/11/2020 09:58

An MP is asking for you opinions on fireworks

www.marcolonghi.org.uk/campaigns/marcos-fireworks-survey

AlexaShutUp · 15/11/2020 10:05

I think they should be allowed on certain specific dates (bonfire night, Diwali etc) and banned for the rest of the year. I would never do them at home personally, too dangerous for my liking.

Someone was letting them off at 2am this morning, which really pissed me off! And we do celebrate Diwali in our house!
