What the hell?!?!?!?!

bookwormbeagle · 10/11/2020 12:52

What's happened now?

LoseLooseLucy · 10/11/2020 12:54

Context helps...

TheQueef · 10/11/2020 12:54

Dead?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/11/2020 12:57

Just listening to JV on Radio2.

Princess Diana forgeries etc.

I hd somehow not noticed any of it before! I knew about the Michael Jackson stuff, but this? Actually, I think I do remember her brother saying similar stuff.

The BBC will have a hard time airbrushing this out of history!.

Then again, given he is seriously ill!

Ooh! I was about to post a link to the Sky report about the graphic designer, but it disappeared!

www.shropshirestar.com/news/uk-news/2020/11/10/martin-bashir-must-provide-answers-over-diana-interview-says-graphic-designer/

Let's see if that stays...

What are you on about?

BrumBoo · 10/11/2020 12:58

Something to do with the Diana interview? Not sure why that's being dragged up 26 after the fact.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/11/2020 12:58

Sorry Lucy, I was listening to the radio and posting whilst looking for a decent enough link to the story!

One possibility is that there is a man who wants to clear himself of the blame

... or someone wants to have another pop at Prince Charles, The Royals in general

.. theories will abound. But Googling Bashir is interesting, in a Chinese curse kind of way. It needs to be revealed, just how much of all of that Celebrity Journalism was then, is now etc!

Mrsjayy · 10/11/2020 13:01

There is a new documentary stating Martin Bashir set up some fraudulent claims to get Diana's full disclosure,I'm not sure why now though why not at the time ? Apparently he is too Ill to comment.

Redcrayons · 10/11/2020 13:01

I don’t understated why this is news now?

It would barely be of interest if she was still alive, but given that she’s been dead for more than 20 years I can’t see how it’s relevant.

x2boys · 10/11/2020 13:02

I saw a clip on the news I wasnt really paying attention ,? He's quite unwell with COVID as well isn't he ?

LoseLooseLucy · 10/11/2020 13:02

I’d completely forgotten it was Martin Bashir who interviewed Michael Jackson that time!

EnglishGirlApproximately · 10/11/2020 13:03

I've read the whole thread and the link and I'm still no wiser!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/11/2020 13:05

I don’t understated why this is news now? Accorcding to the lnk, and the man involved, he has just found out that he had his BBC work blocked, was blamed for the forgeries. He isn't happy and wants someone to explain to him why he was left to carry the can!

OP posts:
PleasantVille · 10/11/2020 13:05

There was quite a long documentary about it on last week. For those of us around the same age as Diana who lived every minute of those years with her it's interesting new information that caused her to make some (with hindsight) horrible decisions. For the young probably not so much.

BrumBoo · 10/11/2020 13:05

I feel sorry for rhe graphic designer. Otherwise, I cannot see how showing some bank statements was enough for Diana to give an interview. The woman was desperate to spill the beans by any means necessary. I wouldn't be surprised if there would have been a book or 5 by now if she hadn't sadly passed away. Dont get me wrong, I felt sorry for in her in a way, the same way I feel sorry for Megan Markle now, but I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of dragging it all up is.

Unless there is good reason to think MB has done something truly immoral or even illegal, chasing him now when he's seriously ill seems pretty low.

LemonTT · 10/11/2020 13:06

Meh, she should have listened to the queen. Never complain and never explain. She was tricked into telling the truth as she seen it. Not bothered and don’t mind of journalists do this to public figures or celebrities.

As they say you can’t con an honest man or woman. If she got conned then she had something to hide and something to gain by going public.

Mrsjayy · 10/11/2020 13:06

I wonder if the graphic designer is a bit skint so stirring. He wasn't too concerned when he was making false bank statements.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/11/2020 13:07

The woman was desperate to spill the beans by any means necessary. But this 'blackmail' puts a new spin on it, doesn't it?

We have bugger all idea what really went on but, if this is even vaguely true then someone needs to explian what/why!

But, as Pleasant says, it's old news. Nobody cares these days! It's only us oldies who like news to be true that care!

So you did know? Grin

The BBC will have a hard time airbrushing this out of history!.

They’re holding another inquiry. External, I believe. They can’t hush this up.

Then again, given he is seriously ill!

He’s ambulatory. He was papped nipping to the shops in NYC the other day. So he should live to give evidence.

Take a breath woman!

nosswith · 10/11/2020 13:08

Very poor taste to pursue a seriously ill man. Sadly Earl Spencer doing this does not surprise me.

Let Diana rest in peace.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/11/2020 13:08

I think he is claiming mens rea - that he was conned into it!

More complicated than it first seems!

Same reason Jimmy Saville suddenly became news after his death. Serious historical wrongdoing come newly to light, (or more of it come to light than previously).

It does matter when a public service, state funded broadcaster does stuff like this.

Mrsjayy · 10/11/2020 13:11

It's just odd why now.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/11/2020 13:12

So you did know? That there was a lot of family protestation at the time Yes!

That there was an element of forgery/blackmail - no, of course not!

Have aI strated into an area that some MNeres don't want to see posted?

What would you lke to talk about, puppies and kittens?

Thn again, I already know that journalism is fucked! Why am I suprised that nobody is intrested? Post Truth Rules OK!
