What the hell?!?!?!?!

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/11/2020 15:09

Only recently has the 'forger' come forward, which is why Charles Spencer and the BBC have resurrected the issue. And only now because he very recently saw/was shown minutes of meetings, investigation, that laid the blame at his door!

OP posts:
Plantingbulbs · 10/11/2020 15:14

The ‘forger’ did say something and was blacklisted years ago for it, losing all his work. He thought that the BBC were unaware of it but since it has come out that they were aware, he has come forward again.

Some of the attitudes on here are why whistle blowers won’t come forward.

And again- DARVO.

ChickSmile · 10/11/2020 15:14

Beeb has no accountability any more, just woke cultural marxist agenda running right through it from A-Z! Though tbf, the Martin Bashir bloke would have done this at any TV station I think.

P.S. If you have had the misfortune to try to complain about anything, including sensationalism, low standards, sexual explicitness, or political bias, you will be given short shrift lets say!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/11/2020 15:15

Being asked to mock up a document wouldn't have been that unusual

Maybe not, but doesn't it beg the question of what other documents the BBC may have had "mocked up" in pursuit of a story?

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/11/2020 15:18

@jessstan1

Oh so what.

Journalists use dishonest means to get their stories. Is that news?

Bashir is now a scapegoat.

Omg what a joke. That man is incredibly manipulative and scheming. And frighteningly intelligent. The only time I’m aware he met his match was on interviewing the Scientologists. That would be because he’s cut from the same cloth.
midsomermurderess · 10/11/2020 15:28

To say that the BBC runs out woke cultural marxist agenda is deranged. And what, please, do you ,wan by 'woke'. Let me guess, you have been bleating about 'political correctness gone mad' for the last 2 decades. It's deranged, and frankly comical.

Andante57 · 10/11/2020 15:29

I thought the reason the BBC sacked him was because he blew the whistle?
What a despicable organisation they are and as puzzled said upthread, goodness knows what other dishonest means have been used to for their agenda.

RubyViolet · 10/11/2020 15:39

But Diana had already said everything to Andrew Morton for his book. I don’t get it ?
She was repeating everything she had already said covertly to Morton.

MoonJelly · 10/11/2020 15:39

@PleasantVille

There was quite a long documentary about it on last week. For those of us around the same age as Diana who lived every minute of those years with her it's interesting new information that caused her to make some (with hindsight) horrible decisions. For the young probably not so much.
Seriously, absolutely no-one "lived every minute" of any part of her life with her.
Nailgirl · 10/11/2020 15:40

Hang on Charles did his interview and that was ok -doing a "bare bones interview" and airing all the dirty laundry -a year before. He was being a man and honest about his feelings -all ok.

When Diana did it -under duress and false promises / paperwork etc -she was deranged -how is that fair?

I don't think so. Charles knew he wanted a divorce and got his side in first with the JD interview. He tried to paint Diana as mad, deranged, unfit, etc whereas "poor charles" hadn't been allowed to marry the love of his love, Camilla and was deeply unhappy but making the best of it. Whereas Diana then couldn't accept separate lives and went off the rails.

Whether by book or interview -I think she had the right to reply. The fact the BBC might have lied -well we know they do and we pay our license fee for waste and they do waste our money, and don't look after OUR money as the poor plebs us -have to cough it up under threat of prison. etc

MoonJelly · 10/11/2020 15:41

@CuriousaboutSamphire

I don’t understated why this is news now? Accorcding to the lnk, and the man involved, he has just found out that he had his BBC work blocked, was blamed for the forgeries. He isn't happy and wants someone to explain to him why he was left to carry the can!
I only heard part of the interview, but it did seem to me that someone who willingly creates forged bank statements for a reporter can't claim to be entirely blameless.

I don't think that either of them should have done an interview.

Just lived seperately & divorced asap!

Did they need HM's approval for that?

MoonJelly · 10/11/2020 15:50

Oh, those dreadful marxist programmes - Strictly, AutumnWatch, Escape to the Country, the Remembrance service, The Archers, Antiques Roadshow. the Proms, Festival of Lessons and Carols - all riddled with lefty socialism. I don't know how you cope.
MoonJelly · 10/11/2020 15:52

Didn't Diana herself say she never saw the bank statements, they didn't influence her, and she was able to make up her own mind about doing the interview? Certainly before, during and after she made it pretty clear that she was glad to get the chance to give what she perceived to be her side of the story.

ancientgran · 10/11/2020 15:52

More fool her, she played the press and one of them played her.

ancientgran · 10/11/2020 15:56

I thought the reason the BBC sacked him was because he blew the whistle? Well he said he wasn't employed by the BBC so they couldn't sack him, they didn't give him any more work but they didn't sack him.

RubyViolet · 10/11/2020 15:58

This reads like an anti BBC thread. Diana had enough power to say no to Bashir.
Earl Spencer isn’t the brightest button in the box.

user1471565182 · 10/11/2020 16:02

Whys all this stuff about Diana popping up all of a sudden?

Quaagars · 10/11/2020 16:03

@ancientgran

If it's true, you condone gaslighting and manipulation? Wow, OK

Brought it on herself, did she? Was asking for it? Wow, you're a peach. won't say what I really want to as might get deleted
ancientgran · 10/11/2020 16:12

She played the press whilst acting the little innocent. You know the saying Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas, well that was what happened to her.

If you haven't got the guts to say it don't talk about it, makes you sound like a 12 year old.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/11/2020 16:14

True enough, but isn't there a bit of a difference between one (probably misguided) woman and a supposed public service provider encouraging and rewarding deceit?

TBF Diana was also involved in both public service and deceit, but I didn't get all that worked up about her when she was alive and am certainly not going to now she's not

Unfortunately, the BBC - and the rest of the RF come to that - are still with us, and there's hardly an ounce of accountability among the whole lot
