To think Sainsburys delivery guys should help me pack?

I am wondering what other peoples experiences are with their deliveries. Every time a guy brings my shopping, he plants it down and steps back for me to pack it all.

I dont get them often and order a big shop when I do so it is quite awkward him just standing here while I do it all. AIBU to think they could help?

Part of my issue is being late 20s I look young but actually have a chronic condition that really tired me out. They probably think 'oh she can do it herself' but tonight I am especially exhausted (they arrive in half an hour)

At the moment I think they are told to stand back, although perhaps you could ask for help.

Cwenthryth · 09/11/2020 18:11

Nope, especially not at the moment. Contactless delivery means no.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 09/11/2020 18:12

Of course he’s stepping back! Hmm

KatDubs261 · 09/11/2020 18:12

What if I lay bags out for them further away?

Frazzlefrazle · 09/11/2020 18:12

No I don't think they should. You can ask for them to take it in the kitchen for you if that's easier? I always just chuck it into bags/Hall.

swapsicles · 09/11/2020 18:12

Probably not allowed currently, you can certainly ask but due to covid rules will more than likely decline.

Hopoindown31 · 09/11/2020 18:12

I thought this was standard practice even before COVID. They are not supposed to enter the property.

KatDubs261 · 09/11/2020 18:13

Just wondering how it is working for others

Yes but previously they offered to help me.pack the bags. Not since covid

RenegadeMrs · 09/11/2020 18:14

They used to bring the bags into the kitchen. That all stopped (understandably) with covid.

Bumble84 · 09/11/2020 18:14

Not at the moment. You can get groceries delivered in bags from other supermarkets. Maybe time to change supplier if it’s becoming an issue for you.

Tomcullenisahero · 09/11/2020 18:14

No not now they're really not supposed to. If you order bags it might be easier to unload. I ordered a few online shops but didn't order liners and I was frantically throwing every single item onto my porch floor before the next tray was brought up. For some reason I was all flustered! I order the liners now

Noflora · 09/11/2020 18:14

I put out boxes my delivery driver was happy to do it all. Bags won't work because he has to touch them, the boxes can be filled without touching the sides

Sparklfairy · 09/11/2020 18:14

Don't know about Sainsbury's but I've had Asda deliveries and there's a flat charge of 40p to have it in bags already. I was isolating so opened the door when they were still at the van and asked them if they wouldn't mind leaving it in the porch for me. They were happy to do it. Presumably if you don't have a porch they could put it straight into your hallway that way?

Mumdiva99 · 09/11/2020 18:15

They aren't currently allowed in your property. They have to keep the drivers safe or we won't be able to get deliveries at all. Why don't you order 2 smaller shops? (I know there is a minimum spend but 2 smaller shops must be easier than 1 big one...

Fleetwoodmacs · 09/11/2020 18:15

When you book a delivery slot is there somewhere you can request assistance? Ive never used it but I'm sure my Tesco order has this option.

The default will be to social distance just now.

Letshavesometea · 09/11/2020 18:15

If it has changed since covid then you have answered your own question

Brighterthansunflowers · 09/11/2020 18:15

YABU

They’re following social distancing to protect you and themselves. If you need help, use your voice and ask them to help you. But i wouldn’t expect them to come into your home to unpack like they might have done before the pandemic.

Order with bags, deal with chilled and frozen stuff straight away and do the rest in smaller more manageable chunks.

Floralnomad · 09/11/2020 18:15

Can’t you pay for carrier bags with Sainsbury so you just need to pick them up ? We have Tesco and they just drop the trays by the door and step back whilst you do whatever with it .

LittleLadyCece · 09/11/2020 18:15

It works exactly the same for me. They deliver and stand back whilst I get everything sorted. Always have done the same even before covid.

LooneyLovefood · 09/11/2020 18:16

I also have a chronic illness that leaves me exhausted after high energy activities like sorting the shopping. However, I completely get why the delivery people cannot help at the moment - it keeps us both safe for them to step way back from my door. So I just take my time emptying the crates out into my porch. Sometimes I've even sat on the porch floor so I'm not bending down over the crates. The delivery drivers have always been really understanding and I've never felt rushed.

To help break the task into smaller chunks I make sure I put any fridge/freezer things to one side so I can whizz those away when all the shopping is out the crates. I'll often leave the cupboard items till later after I've had a rest and worked up some more energy.

anxiouscrazymum · 09/11/2020 18:16

Are you not able to do it yourself?

KatDubs261 · 09/11/2020 18:17

@Noflora I have a box I could put out. I'll ask if they are willing to do that then and at least then I've asked

Get your shopping delivered with Tesco as they use large plastic liners/bags so easy to get it in (not environmentally friendly I know but I do re-use the bags) 😀

KatDubs261 · 09/11/2020 18:18

Thanks @LooneyLovefood. I am feeling especially bad today and I always feel under pressure to sort it asap Sad
