To think Sainsburys delivery guys should help me pack?

KatDubs261 · 09/11/2020 18:09

I am wondering what other peoples experiences are with their deliveries. Every time a guy brings my shopping, he plants it down and steps back for me to pack it all.

I dont get them often and order a big shop when I do so it is quite awkward him just standing here while I do it all. AIBU to think they could help?

Part of my issue is being late 20s I look young but actually have a chronic condition that really tired me out. They probably think 'oh she can do it herself' but tonight I am especially exhausted (they arrive in half an hour)

It's due to covid - not only is the delivery driver delivering to you, but hundreds of other customers too, as well as interacting with staff and of course his family. He has got to adhere to contactless deliveries, those are rules from the head office, not him, not his management, not even the area managers. And head office will be following the guidance they have been given from the government so it isn't the delivery drivers fault. I've always found the delivery drivers to be extremely helpful, in fact when my youngest was first born and I'd just had a c-section they would bring it into my kitchen and unpack for me. But due to what is going on right now I would never expect them to put themselves, their families, their co-workers and all the other customers (any of whom might be vulnerable - or have vulnerable family members themselves) at risk. It is not part of their job description to help you unpack, just a nice thing that alot of them would do before it became a health risk.

Corona Virus. That’s why.

GrubbsGrady · 09/11/2020 18:43

Pack it in bags ? Ffs just dump it all in the hall behind you he has other places to be! People like you hold up all the other houses

Snackasaurus · 09/11/2020 18:43

Due to Covid, they will just stand back and let you do it. They see several customers during the day so standing back and distancing themselves are the only way they can really protect themselves.

If I was you, I would get a washing basket and sling everything in there and just drag it through to your kitchen. I do this and it is so much easier!

Delivery drivers are on a tight schedule at the best of times which has been worsened by the pandemic as a lot more people are doing home shopping. You can only do your best but maybe explain to the driver your condition :)

AlwaysLatte · 09/11/2020 18:43

There is an option for you to put special instructions I think (at least there is one for Tesco). Best to actually log it there so they know - then I'm sure they would bring it all in and put it on your kitchen worktops if you stand well back, there must be lots of people who need a bit of extra help with the deliveries.

Peppafrig · 09/11/2020 18:44

If you are a vunerable customer you can ask for extra help if you physically are unable to do it. But no he shouldn’t be on the door step passing you stuff he is very right to step back to protect himself from Covid.

Maldivesdream · 09/11/2020 18:45

Can you not just tip the crate on floor OP? Sort it when the delivery man has gone.

PickAChew · 09/11/2020 18:45

Unfortunately, yabu, at the moment, and it pisses me off that they refuse to pack stuff in bags as I have mobility and dexterity issues, too and it takes me an age to move everything into baskets then into my kitchen and I really struggle to get heavy stuff out of the crates. I'd moved to mostly waitrose and ocado because of this but their slots are like unicorn breath, at the moment.

Maldivesdream · 09/11/2020 18:46

Disgusting!!
PickAChew · 09/11/2020 18:47

and I don't know about op but I could t physically tip the crates and it would leave a bit of a mess when my wine lands on top of the eggs

Christmasfairy2020 · 09/11/2020 18:47

I click for it to be packed for extra 40p

PickAChew · 09/11/2020 18:49

Sainsbury don't allow that any more.
KarmaStar · 09/11/2020 18:50

Of course yabu!!it is a pandemic.

notthe1Parrot · 09/11/2020 18:51

I open the window, never the door (to anyone) as we’re shielding. I ask them, through the open window, if they would unload it into the 2 stack-a-jacks that I had already placed in front of the front door. They always are happy to do so.

Nogoodusername · 09/11/2020 18:51

Switch to Morrisons or Tescos where you can select to have it delivered in bags and then return the bags at your next delivery

Kazzyhoward · 09/11/2020 18:52

@Bumble84

Not at the moment. You can get groceries delivered in bags from other supermarkets. Maybe time to change supplier if it’s becoming an issue for you.
Indeed. Sainsbury made a very bad decision to stop offering carrier bags a month or two ago. Now is not the time to be virtue signalling about carrier bag use! We have moved our deliveries to Tesco because of this.
Bluntness100 · 09/11/2020 18:52

Use Ocado, they deliver in bags, will drop them in your hall without coming in, and they charge five p per bag and then give you the five PE back when you give the bag back.

Simplyunacceptable · 09/11/2020 18:53

Of course he’s standing back, have you lived under a rock this year?

Mustbe3ormorecharacters · 09/11/2020 18:53

I think you should reach out to Sainsbury’s and mention the chronic condition. I’m sure they could be more helpful.

PickAChew · 09/11/2020 18:53

Nice.
Givemeabreak88 · 09/11/2020 18:54

I don’t know where everyone else is but 3 time’s now I’ve paid for bags with my Tesco’s order only for it to not be in bags at all and get told they “don’t do them anymore”

CheetasOnFajitas · 09/11/2020 18:56

@Hopoindown31

I thought this was standard practice even before COVID. They are not supposed to enter the property.
No, Tesco and Waitrose always brought mine to the kitchen in the crates.
CheetasOnFajitas · 09/11/2020 18:56

Sorry not Waitrose, Ocado.

jessstan1 · 09/11/2020 18:56

Put a box or a couple of big bags for life on the step for the delivery person to put the goods in, then you just have to drag them indoors.

jessycake · 09/11/2020 18:58

I only do a shop where they provide bags , I do use them as bin bags afterwards though . I can't keep bending down to pack groceries as I am a bit arthritic ,plus I am not to sure how often the baskets they bring the groceries are cleaned .
