I love sweet corn with a roast! I have onion rings too which is apparantly is super weird lol

formerbabe · 08/11/2020 19:36

Couldn't agree more.

Filth

You need greens

TheDowagerDuchess · 08/11/2020 19:38

I’ve come around to thinking that there should be greens served with a roast rather than just roasted vegetables - today we had kale on the side with our roast beef, yorkshires, roast potatoes and carrots which was nice. My parents have peas which is a bit odd.

But I really don’t think sweet corn works.

MustardMitt · 08/11/2020 19:38

We have broccoli and carrots. Those are our favourites and they're easy to source and cook together.

Sweetcorn is an abomination, especially so on a roast!

Why is peas odd? I don't like them but they feel like the quintessential roast dinner side to me! We've never been a greens family though.

Sweetcorn should not be on a roast, or with gravy. Heathens.

PeteWicksSexyPirate · 08/11/2020 19:40

Cabbage, broccoli, carrots, peas
Sometimes cauliflower cheese Smile

JamminDoughnuts · 08/11/2020 19:40

I love kale particularly the black

I love sweet corn. But never in a roast! What on earth?! Only permissible roast vegetables are carrots, broccoli, green beans, cauliflower or parsnips.

Zixxy · 08/11/2020 19:42

Roasts are yuk IMO. So there! But each to their own.

Sweetcorn gets stuck in my teeth sometimes and is indigestible most of the time, so it is a NO from me whether in a roast or not. LOL

justgeton · 08/11/2020 19:42

Courgettes should never be anywhere near gravy imo

Lolwhat · 08/11/2020 19:43

Peas, broccoli, sweetcorn, cauliflower cheese, parsnips😍😍

MrsTwitcher · 08/11/2020 19:44

Sweetcorn fritters are nice with chicken

Glitteryone · 08/11/2020 19:45

I adore sweet corn but not in a roast!

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 08/11/2020 19:46

Carrots , parsnips, Savoy cabbage or broccoli

Cauliflower cheese but only if gammon

Pukkatea · 08/11/2020 19:48

@mnahmnah has it correct, those are the essential roast veg. I will accept peas but no, not sweetcorn.

formerbabe · 08/11/2020 19:50

Not keen on peas or carrots either. However I serve them and sweetcorn with a roast as my dc eat them..they don't go on my plate.

My personal choice would be roast parsnips and a leafy green veg.

ClashCityRocker · 08/11/2020 19:51

In my opinion, at the bare minimum a roast needs a green vegetable (cabbage, broccoli, peas) , an orange vegetable (carrots, mashed swede) and a white one (potato, parsnips, cauliflower. Cauliflower cheese with ham/gammon only).

It does not need a yellow one.

I once got served baby corn with a Christmas dinner which was odd. The rest of the meal was lovely, but it just seemed a rather unusual addition.

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 08/11/2020 19:54

Sprouts.

Also broccoli, green beans, broad beans, carrots, red cabbage, roast beetroot, swede. Maybe asparagus or mange touts if it’s roast chicken, or leeks.

I like at least three vegetables, of at least two colours. Not sweet corn

Airyfairymarybeary · 08/11/2020 19:55

Nothing wrong with a bit of tinned sweetcorn with your roast!!

PurpleDaisies · 08/11/2020 19:55

I’m with you. Sweetcorn and gravy is wrong.

Red cabbage (or any cabbage/kale) is one of my top veg favourites on a roast dinner. Also parsnips. Sprouts in winter. I particularly like whole roast onions too.

I’ll often cook peas, carrots, broccoli, green beans/mangetout with a roast. I enjoy those but wouldn’t campaign for any to have to be included.

Cauliflower cheese is all kinds of wrong with gravy.

PurpleDaisies · 08/11/2020 19:56

I forgot swede. I love mashed swede.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 08/11/2020 19:58

The only permitted vegetable with a roast are Brussel sprouts

Ylvamoon · 08/11/2020 20:00

A reast needs a good selection of vegetables... we have broccoli, carrots, parsnips and beetroot. Sometimes cauliflower cheese or sweet potato. No, to sweetcorn or any leafy green vegetables.

formerbabe · 08/11/2020 20:00

Never understood the appeal of swede....so bland
