To ask what job you do if....

-You earn over 30k
-you can wear whatever you want -as in you don't HAVE to dress smart! So you could wear jeans if you wasn't.

  • it's a quiet environment
  • you get a lunchbreak
-days only (no shift) -you are not sitting all day but not on your feet either...so a good balance

Thanks in advance...

I work in IT, have been able to work remotely for years, and unless meeting in person with external clients etc (very very rare) can wear whatever. People here work all sorts of hours that suit them, but I was clear when I started I wanted my working hours to be 9-5pm, Monday to Friday and it's written into my contract that I am not expected to work outside of those hours or days, although happily do if the team needs me to now and then. I do sit down a lot, but meh.

SiliconHeaven · 08/11/2020 14:06

Local authority officer, currently working at home. I am in front of my computer most of the time though!

laudemio · 08/11/2020 14:11

IT, brilliant job and also satisfying because I get to make stuff with an excellent team. Tbf I do sometimes work extra hours but it is almost my choice to do so because I am absorbed in what I'm doing and want to get it to a certain point.
But I can always take the hours back too. Very flexible job with kids.

Flood risk management- Environment Agency.
Good mix of desk/site/field based.
Relaxed public sector dress code.
My grade is £36K+ car pro rata.
In some tokes there is an expectation to join a standby rota, but it is not compulsory. I have an incident response role but it is on an “if available” basis.

Meet all of that criteria except the sitting all day (although we have standing desks too, so I suppose you could do that). Civil Service - Compliance Officer

BrunoMars · 08/11/2020 14:43

HR. Have not worn anything other casual for nearly 20 years! (Tech companies). Pay is good. Work is crap.

NatMoz · 08/11/2020 14:44

Civil Service here too.
The flexibility alone is fantastic. I work a compressed week full time but always have Mondays off.

The only thing not on the list is it is a desk job so you're usually at your desk unless attending meetings.

Crapbuttrue · 08/11/2020 14:51

Landscape Architect. Mainly on my arse, especially at the moment but we do undertake site visits/meetings usually.

I suspect the "new norm" will be more Teams meetings as we work with companies nationwide and somebody always ends up having to travel.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/11/2020 14:52

Also a lecturer. I’m in a creative subject, but colleagues who teach eg law tend to be more formally dressed.

Usually I can keep it to Monday - Friday,, but currently teaching 100% remotely from home, and working much longer hours.

DH is a building surveyor, same with him.

blarbed · 08/11/2020 15:06

When I was a HR Advisor. Visiting sites and attending meetings a lot. How quiet it is depends on the office though.

blarbed · 08/11/2020 15:07

ooo couldn't wear jeans though. Smart casual would be OK.

amusedbush · 08/11/2020 15:09

I ticked those boxes as a university admin.

I’m now a full-time PhD student hoping to become a lecturer after graduation.
