Thank you... I'm reporting for duty on next thread Grin

DuncinToffee Yet another post that makes me mad there isnt a 'like' button here. A very powerful image. This is momentous for Kamala and so overdue.

Voice0fReason · 07/11/2020 20:48

SO relieved to hear the announcement earlier. I'm hoping it will be made firmer with the last few states finalising their counts. He should end with a decisive 306.
Then it's on to the Senate run-offs in Georgia!

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 07/11/2020 20:48

@Wherrsmaclickypen

Sweet jesus, I was sobbing like a baby at Van Jones on CNN and am beyond relief which is odd as it has fuck all to do with me in rural scotland Watching the coverage I belatedly realise that EVERYONE is still on tippytoes around this madman and his extraordinary behaviour - nothing should surprise us.

I hope a moderate Republican tasers him off his own podium and restores faith in moderate differences of opinion.

Having said that, a press conference in a landscaping parking lot???? WTF.

Just watched it myself 🥺

I really enjoyed the CNN coverage overall, very knowledgeable presenters and a lot of openness

@Wherrsmaclickypen hello from a fellow janey fan

see you on the next thread!

Zixxy · 07/11/2020 20:53

Agree on Van Jones. So emotional, don't often see that in men really, sorry to generalise. But because he did break down, it resonated more with me.

Roussette · 07/11/2020 20:55

So agree. I was on CNN watching it online as they cut to Van Jones. Very moving

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 20:55

@AcrossthePond55

Just out of curiosity, do our UK friends think that Biden's win could really affect BoJo's tenure as PM?

I plead ignorance of 'how things are done', but how could this possibly lead to a vote of no confidence?

It already is having some effects...

See here for some pointers.

Johnson is now isolated internationally and the noise that Trump makes is going to lose its amplification over here when he loses office.

There will be plenty of attempts for rapid image change.

Biden working closely with Macron has major implication especially post Brexit.

Theres already a queue ready to put the knives in the back of Johnson in the new year - the Tory party is notorious for its leadership challenges. Johnson's association with Trump certainly doesn't help him here and only leaves him more vulnerable to that.

We shall see. There's a difficult few months ahead for the UK to say the least.

Zixxy · 07/11/2020 20:57

When you think about the way some media outlets were treated by the pumpkin, they have shown some restraint really.

So now we may have proper press briefings again, without someone shouting FAKE NEWS and denigrating women and other journalists.

It truly was a terrible four years. But onwards and upwards.

coffeeandbiscuittime · 07/11/2020 20:59

My 16 year old has just said it's the best thing that has happened in 2020.
This election has, I hope, galvanised all young people to be interested in politics.
I would also like these threads to continue especially during the next tumultuous months. Again thank you to those who have kept them going.

Zixxy · 07/11/2020 21:00

Hopefully new thread incoming.....

Michelle has tweeted Van Jones.

Lweji · 07/11/2020 21:02

Do you think the loser also gets commiseration calls? Im sure Merkel, Macron and Trudeau, among many would love to do them.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/11/2020 21:31

It occurs to me, thinking about Boris with not the faintest scintilla of sympathy for him having backed the wrong horse, that I wouldn't be surprised if Queen Elizabeth had raised a little cheer today at the thought she is never going to have to have anything to do with that orange boor ever again. I am glad for her too!

Lweji · 07/11/2020 21:31

I don’t want to spoil the new thread, so I'll leave this here.

Love the last story there:

The week in Petriarchy
Rabbit Hash, a hamlet in Kentucky, has a peculiar name and a peculiar tradition: it only elects animals as mayors. It has just elected its new mayor, a French bulldog named Wilbur. Congrats to Wilbur. No doubt he will be a much better politician than Kentucky’s senator, Mitch McConnell. Who professes to be a human but looks very suspiciously like a swamp turtle.

AcrossthePond55 · 07/11/2020 21:41
Across you must join us on the Westminsterenders thread at our next election.

All the candidates for each seat line up on stages in each constituency and we get to see their faces as the results are called out.

Here's a famous one from a few years back where a very senior Conservative politician, who was strongly tipped to be the next party leader, was ousted by a first time runner for the Labour party
I accept your kind invitation!

Ooooh, not a happy bunny there, is he?

That's a bit of a "Miss Universe" way of doing it, isn't it? All the contenders lined up and awaiting the big announcement. I just wish they'd put Joe & Donnie on a stage like that this morning. I'd have paid good money to see the look on his face!

BestIsWest · 07/11/2020 21:41

Is anyone else still refreshing the counts though? I can’t get out of the habit now.

AcrossthePond55 · 07/11/2020 21:46

That Mr Siemers is mighty fine, isn't he? Can you imagine waking up in the morning and seeing Scrotus when you've been with him?

I shall now migrate to the new thread.
